This house was very peaceful and charming!

The view is the only reason I would stay here, never had a more beautiful peaceful view but even that has cons.
Pics make it look like you can walk out to the river, you can’t, steep drop off. Still beautiful blue river to gaze at.
I understand this was affordable for us due to these cons but here they are. The cabin is rustic, needs a good remodel. Really disliked I booked through VRBO and then it’s run by Vasca so I had to get a whole new app just to manage everything. The Vasca cleaning crew leaves a little cleaning basket of dishwasher detergent and pods for a dishwasher that doesn’t exist! I don’t mind doing dishes but leave what I need to wash by hand not for something that’s not there. There is no AC and gets nice and cool at night if you know how to keep a house cool that way. The guests or crew before us did not and we arrived to a sunny stuffy hot cabin that took us a day to cool back down.
Again location is the gem to this cabin, cons make it affordable but very rustic. Don’t plan on sitting down to chill with some tv at night, no streaming and very limited and outdated dvds.

Our party of 6 really enjoyed this home. It's a bit old/outdated but had everything you need, it was clean and most importantly such a beautiful spot. Sitting outside in the morning with a cup of coffee by the river and making s'mores around the fire at night. Index is also a very cute town and very easy to walk around from the house and find swimming spots. I would definitely come back again.

The river sounds lovely- it is inaccessible from the property and there is a steep dropoff from the rocks- keep kids and pets away.
The home was clean and quaint, but definitely needs work.

We enjoyed our stay by the riverside. The property was clean and welcoming. The major inconvenience was the plumbing issues with clogged sink and leaking from kitchen ceiling.

Spacious and beautiful setting on the Skykomish.

The mountain views and river just off the deck were wonderful. Couple great hikes close by. Our expectations for a quiet and relaxing stay were met.

We had a very nice time at this home by the river. You can’t necessarily access the river from the property but it’s a short walk into town and a short walk to a river access point. I can’t describe the beautiful views from the main level and the master bedroom.
The beds were a little older and the uneven floors made it so we had to be a little creative with how we positioned ourselves in bed for sleep.
It is rustic, and there were quite a few insects and spiders in the home.
Overall the stay was great and I’d do it again!

Beautiful cabin right on the river. Index is a very cute town and the cabin is a perfect location for hikes. Lovely views right from the couch!

This place was dingy and under stocked and vacasa was unhelpful.

This house was the perfect location for a hiking getaway and the perfect distance between seattle and steven’s pass! The views from the dining room table brought us so much peace, sitting quietly drinking our coffee each morning. Truly a dream!

House is dated. There were not enough dishes/silverware for the amount of people the listing advertises for-4 dinner plates & 3 forks. Limited pots & pans. The cutting board was moldy. I visited the goodwill & bought silverware (left it there for the next guest). There is a 10ft drop to the FAST moving river, so it is definitely not kid or pet friendly. The living room lights did not work, there is no tv service & only a few movies. The dryer is very old & takes forever (two cycles) to dry anything, which was hard with lots of ski clothes to dry. The fridge had to be turned up all the way to keep things cold enough. The trash cans in the shed were so full I had to keep our trash in the house all week. The hardwood floors are separating. The window coverings were not private & this is in a neighborhood. The front door is glass with no covering & you can see straight in from the street. The bedrooms are large & beds are comfortable. The views are great & the town of Index is a favorite or ours. The local hiking is good & only about 35 min from the ski resort which is great. The woodstove works great so don't forget firewood! The code for the door is very long & it doesn't unlock, so be aware! HA! The third bedroom is really a den & has a large 15 foot curtain for the wall, so there is a lack of privacy. It was fine for kids. Bathrooms: large & functional. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, if needed. Cabinets were stocked with a few necessities. We made the best, but will not return.

Very nice cabin in Index. The location is amazing. The only downside was that the TV did not work.

We absolutely loved our stay here! The stars were immaculate, the home was cozy, nothing fancy, but it had everything that we needed. It was salmon spawning season and we were able to sit out on the deck and watch the salmon move their way up river. The small downtown is a very short walk away and everyone we met was so incredibly friendly. There's some beautiful hiking in the area as well. I can't recommend this place enough, and look forward to returning again in the future!

My mom, my aunts, and I stayed at the cabin during the weekend and it was cozy and warm. I especially loved the little wooden desk in the second bedroom facing the river, where I did some drawing and art. We had a wonderful time! I give this a 5/5 rating

I visited this property to work on my book and it was perfect for that! Access to WIFI was great and I can imagine this would be a great spot during the spring and summer months when there is more opportunity for recreation! My dog enjoyed the space. It was quiet and nice. They had a selection of DVDs and games. It might have been nice to have more communication from the property owner as I was a little nervous going by myself during this dark time of year.

We came here for the view and small town charm. The town is a tiny enclave but very unique and walkable and friendly. The river and view is so beautiful! There is zero safe access to the river from the house but there is easy access down the road. The wood stove helped create some ambience (and heat of course!) so don't forget to bring wood, there is none.
The house is certainly functional but very dated and not in a quaint way.... more of 'it was inexpensive, we made it work." There are checkout directions for the dishwasher but there isn't one (seems a bit impersonal?). Besides the picnic table on the deck there were no chairs to use for outdoors. Luckily we had some camp chairs or that would have been an issue.

This was such a nice and relaxing getaway space. Sitting out back, walking through the town, and the local hospitality was great. The location was perfect and the river views were amazing!

The photos couldn’t do the yard justice, the river was so amazing and right out the back door.

Very nice house with lots of space for a large family or if you don’t like feeling cramped. Awesome view too!!!

This house is in a truly beautiful setting; however, to call it "rustic" is being generous. It's a beater with worn out mattresses, fixtures, flooring and some serious maintenance needs. If you're not too picky, it might be worth it for the location; however, there were serious issues with the smoke from the Bolt Creek fire during our visit. We were very happy with Vaasa's willingness to work with us and relocate us to another home about an hour away.

It was wonderful to have a place to stay a few days to enjoy the changing weather in the mountains while watching the eagles catch fish along the river.

When you go out onto the front porch, you're feet away from the Skykomish river. Mountains are all around. The bedrooms upstairs are huge. You're just two blocks away from the Index General Store.

The town of Index as a whole is a beautiful, quaint, & quirky little mountain town. The cabin is located very close to everything there along with a swimming whole right down the road as there isn’t much water access from the cabin unless you climb down some big rocks and swim across a deep part of the river flowing mildly fast. The home was everything I expected it to be, minimalistic vibes with lots of space. The only thing to be aware of is the lots of bugs, from spiders around the house to mosquitoes & friends in the afternoon & evening. I’m not a fan of bug spray but with some repellant candles from the general store I was able to read outside in peace. Can’t be too upset at that because that is just nature being nature. The bedding and towels were perfectly clean, some of the utensils needed a touch up but overall a pleasant experience. If you are expecting anything overtly fancy though this may not be the best fit, but for a simple lover of nature like myself it was more than I could’ve asked for. 🌞💚

Relaxing river home
This house is exactly what we expected and needed. It had everything we needed to enjoy a long bestie's weekend. The accommodations are adequate. This isn't a 5 star hotel, so don't come expecting that. However, we did have everything we needed and the sights and sounds of the river is why we came here. If that's what you want, this is perfect.

I want to move here.
The rooms upstairs are HUGE. All the beds are comfy. The locations is stunning. Even in this mostly rainy weather. Many of the houses in the area are really old houses with a lot of character that are well maintained or recently remodeled. My Dad and I have been traveling since early December. This is his new favorite place. And I agree. And working with the Vacasa staff was a really good experience. This was a 10 out of 5 stars for my Dad and I.

Oasis on the river
The proximity to the river was perfect and better than I had expected. Beautiful location even in the winter with a winter storm in effect.

The home is spacious and the kitchen is well equipped. There is no generator, so if the power goes out (it did when I was there) there is no internet and no lights.
The owner contacted me after I arrived in messaging, and is very personable and helpful.
The place was spotless and comfortable.

Pros and Cons of our stay at The River Roost
First, the pros: The property was clean and the kitchen and linens were well stocked. The view was beautiful. Laundry equipment worked just fine. Refrigerator was spacious and microwave worked well. Large eating table and bar stools at the bar area was a plus. Entertainment such as Blue Tooth device for TV was nice and games were plentiful. (There is no live tv).
The Cons: The keylock had at least 8-10 numbers to key in. Couldn't memorize this.
The house is very dated and could use some sprucing up. The deck railing downstairs is very loose.
Only 3 burners on the kitchen stove work, which was an inconvenience when 4 adult guests are staying in this house. Because of covid, we found it necessary to do our own cooking.
The front porch was slippery as well as the steps when it rained, as it usually does in this area. Need treads at least on the steps. One of the guest slipped but caught her fall.
Although, not a significant problem, I do feel that the management should provide more paper products such as paper towels and toilet paper instead of asking the renters to buy their own if supply needs to be replenished.
