About this cabin rental
Carter's Cabin is a uniquely wonderful cabin offering a cozy and comfortable getaway nestled in a serene and private wooded estate on the Animas River where you can enjoy the prolific wildlife where rarely has a day gone by without deer wandering through the yard or the foxes coming out to play! Sorry no fishing in the pond, but you can fish in the river. A gas grill allows for relaxing outdoor dining. Onsite amenities include tennis/basketball/pickle ball court, volleyball area, golfing area, fishing and a very private biking, walking, or jogging paths and stables are available for your horse. And the best part is it is located only 6 blocks from the Animas Valley mall!

The cabin is comfortable and very spacious. We enjoyed walking around the park-like grounds to see the river and horses. Having a washer and dryer in the cabin was very convenient.

We rented this property because there are too many adults to stay at my parents house for Christmas. The property and cabin are beautiful. By cozy, I don't mean small but that the feel of the place is cozy. We brought our family to see the cabin because it was so lovely. The fixtures in the house made you feelike you were in a turn of the century home but with all modern amenities. We would be more than happy to stay again. We just wish we had more time there.

Cozy cabin next to the river. We enjoyed walking around, grilling steaks, soaking up the sun. Comfortable bed, well appointed kitchen. Bathroom was interesting, but serviceable. Really appreciated the communication from the owners and helpful ideas on sites to see.

It was a very nice and peaceful cabin. We just stayed for 3 nights. We wanted to go explore Bisti Badlands but it rained. We enjoyed watching football and just relaxing. The cabin has everything you would want in a house. The steps upstairs was hard for me, but I am 66. Most people would not mind. I would definitely recommend this place to stay.

This property is the picturesque vacation home. It felt safe and secure and had so many beautiful things to look at and space to roam. The beds were comfortable, everything was very clean and spacious and customer service was excellent. This is my only go to spot to stay when I am traveling in the area.

The cabin is really nice but the location and property are beautiful and the real reason to stay here. Rose and Terri are super nice and helpful and go out of their way to make it a great experience. 100% recommend staying here.

We were attending a friend's wedding in Farmington. This cabin was a wonderful spot to relax. The kids (1 x teenager; 1 x almost tween) thoroughly enjoyed the property being able to get into nature a bit in a secure setting. One recommendation is insect repellant as they were out in the evening hours near the river. All the directions and instructions were accurate and made access easy. Thank you for the experince!

We loved our stay here! My husband and I stayed two nights with our two kids while we were in the area visiting Bisti and Chaco. All four of us loved this stay. The cabin is as advertised and the property is more beautiful than pictures can capture. We had to drag my kids inside from the trampoline and lovely grounds. We would definitely stay here again.

First class but have some concerns regarding suitability for older guests with the loft bedroom and the tub shower without grab bars.

Beautiful property
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cozy cabin. The setting was beautiful with a small pond out front and the sound of the Animas river flowing nearby. There were numerous geese that visited daily. We chose this cabin for it’s proximity to fly fishing on the San Juan. We highly recommend this property and host!

Wonderful Cabin near the Animus River
We loved the cabin! It was a bit higher than our price range but definitely worth it!
Rose and Terry were great hosts leaving flowers, wine and 3 dozen eggs from their chickens. Sadly Rose's Mother passed. We brought her a large tray to feed relatives because they were so nice to us.
The location is near the main drag for food, resturaunts and the Animas Mall. We were visiting our Grandsons only 6 minutes away.
We were quite sick the first several days but quite comfortable.
The property is family friendly with kids equipment, horses and trampoline. There is a great pond in the front of the cabin. Geese, turkey and deer roam the property.
The cabin was quite comfortable. We slept in the loft up 12 stairs. This is not for someone who can't go up and down stairs. There was plenty of room for our clothes.
The cabin was one of the best places we ever stay and we will definitely return.

Peaceful Retreat
Wonderful private location that is very peaceful. We particularly enjoyed the wild turkeys, deer, and the donkey on the property. Although it felt like you were miles away from anyone else it is only a short drive to stores and restaurants. The house was very comfortable and well provisioned. I'll definitely stay again while visiting the area.

Beautiful property and cabin in a great location.
We fly fished on the San Juan River below the Navajo Dam and this property was an excellent base for that. Woke to wild turkeys in the yard. Much better than a hotel.

Amazingly nice cabin in Farmington
We spend a very quiet and cosy time in this cabin and enjoyed every minute of it. We particularly appreciated the presence of cats, horses, turkeys, deers who made us feel really at home. The surroundings are beautiful and the cabin is incredibly well equipped. We are already dreaming of coming back!
Many thanks for everything!

Awesome cabin and beautiful property
We spent 3 nights in this beautiful cabin. It was quiet, spacious and had a well equipped kitchen (blender, toaster, Keurig coffeemaker, gas stove and microwave). We made breakfast every morning and could have grilled on the gas grill outside but instead we enjoyed the New Mexico cuisine!
The king size bed in the loft was very comfy and extra blankets and pillows were available. Be careful going down the wooden staircase, especially if you're wearing socks (hold onto the banister as it can be slippery).
The trails around the property are lovely, we walked down to the Animas river and also met Gary the donkey along with the horses and cats. A family of deer were seen almost every morning. This cabin is located on a beautiful, well maintained property that feels very secluded. However, the Animas mall and grocery store are only about 6 blocks away.
Farmington and the surrounding area has a lot to offer. We took a drive to Mesa Verde National park and the Four Corners monument and enjoyed the Aztec Ruins National Monument too. Rose was very responsive to my emails and texts. Overall it was a great getaway!

Beautiful cabin with peaceful surroundings
This cabin is enormous! with a very high ceiling and a beautiful crafted staircase to the bedroom. Which has a very large bed with a firm mattress (I love that).
Kitchen has everything you may need, WiFi is very fast, lots of sockets for your gadgets.
I had rented this cabin for two days but I asked Rose if I could come in one day early because the rental I was staying in then was a big disappointment.
Sure! she said. And: come in any time. So no 'but check-in is at 3 PM'.
Rose couldn't be there that first day but she invited me to walk around the grounds saying there was a lot of walking to be done if I felt like it.
That first day I thought she meant: the lawn (which is very large by itself), exploring the picnic pavillion, saying hi to the horses, looking at the tennis court.
Walking down to the river.
It was only on the second day that I discovered there was a lot more to be explored right in front of my house. So many paths into the woods that I was afraid that if I did not pay attention I would get lost.
I saw a female deer with her two fawns every day. I heard birds, I saw some in the scrubs.
Birds of prey that were flying over the property.
I loved looking at the fish in the pond. Some are very big. You are even allowed to feed them.
I felt totally at peace with nature here - which is very important to me.
About Rose! I can't think of a better host!
She totally got it when I said I wanted privacy but when I had a problem she was there just a few minutes later to solve it.
I can't recommend this place enough.
In fact I am already considering going back.

This is a huge beautiful wooden structure.
This is not a "cabin" from the inside,it is a great hall, double height, with three large settees,a dining table and chairs and a kitchen with vast furniture all combined in a glowing wooden structure. The beams are whole trees.
Overlooking the area below is a bedroom with a large, comfortable bed, a window to give light and a second large television.
The bathroom and toilet are well equipped, although the fittings remind me of my childhood, with a bath on legs and a toilet flush operated with a chain.
Outside there is a vast garden of lawn and walks down to a lovely river where one can look across to the warm golden hills in the evenings.
Farmington is a modern town in which everything is accessible by car. There are interesting places to visit, Indian pueblo sites from the past and more modern small frontier towns. There are country walks with strange rock formations, parks and museums. Then the cabin is a wonderful place to which you can return for a home made or ready made supper.
Outside the cabin is a pond with fish, some of which are very large.
The property is very well maintained and Rose is a very responsive hostess.

Perfect, serene getaway!
My significant other and I decided to take a last minute Labor Day trip, and Rose accommodated us even with less than a couple hour notice.
The property was exactly as described, if not better! We brought our mountain bikes to enjoy the vast trails, which begin right outside the front door of the cabin. We were able to ride to the Animas and fish from the private access to the river.
During our stay we were having issues with the Direct TV, but Rose took time out of her day to come over in person and resolve it.
Rose was very responsive and friendly. We will definitely be returning for future trips!

Great week end stay with the family.
My family and I stayed over a weekend and had a great time. The kids loved the donkey and the pond with the fish. I had fun hitting some golf balls just out the back door and walking the trails.

So beautiful we didn't want to leave!
Our family had a great time just exploring the property and the gorgeous views it offered. The cabin offers everything you need and more. This place was far better than we had imagined. The Owner was helpful and offered advice. The location was convenient to everything. Hope we can return soon. Loved it!

A Great Cabin, A Flowing River, & a Gorgeous Cabin
Although located on the owners' property at the end of a city street very near shopping, we found the cabin to be quiet except for the wonderful sound of the nearby river and the pond just outside. The cabin was well-appointed and included a washer/dryer. The only drawback, and it was minor, is that the bathroom is located on the main floor & the bedroom is upstairs. A nightlight would have been nice; we just left a light on. The location was great for getting to the nearby attractions. We rafted the Animas River, visited the magnificent Mesa Verde National Park, and spent an afternoon at the horse races. This was the priciest but far and away the nicest of the places we stayed on our 6 week visit to the US southwest.

Wonderful cabin!
We were extremely impressed with this cabin. If you are looking for a cabin surrounded by nature, but still close to town, this is it. Absolutely no traffic noise, very quiet and peaceful. The only sound we heard were Canadian geese coming in for a landing mid-morning. We also saw deer, pheasants and mourning doves in the backyard. This is an artist's and photographer's dream as the Animas River is just a short walk from the cabin. The morning sunlight shadows are just phenomenal. The cabin itself was beautiful and provided every convenience necessary. The cabin has a fireplace and firewood is provided. The owner was very friendly and helpful and was very respectful of our privacy. We would stay here again without any hesitation if we are ever in this area. By the way, we recommend visiting the Aztec Ruins and Shiprock while you are in the area.

A Getaway, but not Faraway
We really enjoyed the wildlife. Deer were near the cabin when we arrived and we saw wildlife every day; including turkey and a pheasant. The cabin is very nicely furnished and it is hard to believe it is so close to town but there are no noises from town. The sound of the river is nice. It was really convenient to get to anything in the town and it was an easy day trip to Chaco Canyon. It was a very relaxing stay for us.

Amazing Property
We enjoyed our stay and will be back! The river was not too far from the property and everything was green! The trails around the property were nice to take our dogs down. Everything was clean and loved the cabin!
