The High Peaks towns of Wilmington, Jay and Lake Placid offer nightly summer activities for young and old alike, everything from plays, concerts and art exhibits to fireworks and blue-grass/ rock and country bands under the stars.
Bear Den Chalet has a four night minimum stay in July and August, and two nights the rest of the year. No pets permitted, and no smoking inside Bear Den Chalet. The restaurants and Olympic attractions of lake Placid are 10 miles away through the Wilmington notch, one of America's most beautiful country roads.

Perfect for what we were looking for. Listing was very accurate. Very private and quiet. Short distance to lots of good stuff.
The kayaks at the AWR were awesome! Such a nice quiet spot to paddle a bit.

We stayed 3 night and there were 6 adults and 1 child (age 11). This was our second time staying at this property and don’t have anything bad to say. It is comfortable, with plenty of space for all of us, inside and outside. The fire pit is a huge plus. It is in a quiet location, yet only 10 min drive to Lake Placid/Mirror Lake area. We will definitely be staying here again. Thanks Steve

Quiet neighborhood. Great for walking, jogging, hiking, biking. Fishermans paradise. Close to Lake Placid.

The house was a great location for our needs, there was just a few things that could have been a little better… There was 6
Of us that stayed here and there was only 3 washcloths in the whole place, we had to go purchase some. Also there was no garbage cans in the bathrooms, which we went out and purchased as well. The bbq grill was disgusting and needed to be cleaned before our use. Overall we enjoyed our stay

Girls Weekend 2023 for group of four forty-somethings who all went to college together, who get together once a year to hike, relax and explore a new area while leaving the kids and husbands at home! I had trouble receiving email to check in but host (Steve) instantly helped when I called him and we arrived with no issues. Plenty of parking for 3 vehicles (that's all we had) but 6 could have easily fit! Great proximity to High Falls Gorge, the Flume Trails and a few others, and less that 10 miles to downtown Lake Placid and the Olympic Training mountain where we rode bobsled! Two of our friends went to the wild life refuge and met the host and had a lovely tour they enjoyed. House was nice and clean with exception of one cabinet that had pepper or spices spilled throughout bottom and the grill has seen better days (would not go over 300 degrees and right burner doesn't work) but toilets, showers, beds all perfectly clean. Host had detailed info in basement for the cleaners on how to maintain and extras of everything from cleaning supplies to garbage bags. Lovely fire pit and you can source wood from the neighbor to the left (when leaving the driveway) in about a 1 min walk.
We did not use the sauna but looked at it, looked nice!
There were extra fans which was nice but no A/C so I was thankful I brought an extra box fan with me. We opened windows at night but it was still 70 degrees one night since it is July! We all enjoyed the stay and would stay again!

The Bear Den Chalet was great. It is a good location if you don't want to be right in Lake Placid. It is a perfect spot for day trips to Lake Placid or even Burlington VT. Stunning views of Whiteface Mtn are viewable from the front yard. It is walking distance to some trails and kids enjoyed jumping into Flume Falls. We enjoyed games around a campfire at night and the sauna is an added bonus! Def would stay again.

Had an amazing weekend riding at Whiteface during the day and hanging out in Lake Placid in the afternoon/evenings. 2 minutes to the mountain and 10 minutes to town. Place was clean and well suited for 3 couples and a few children. Cant wait to go back again!!!

This was such a great home for our family to be at for the winter holiday we had been planning! The location to Whiteface and Lake Placid was perfect and we felt very much “at home” when we arrived. The house was clean, warm and just right for the 6 of us. We’ll have Many great memories for life from our trip and Bear Den Chalet is a big part of those!

This is a beautiful house on a wooded lot. Great natural light. We roasted marshmallows in the fire pit and enjoyed the large spacious house. Many cool hikes nearby.

Overall we had a great stay at this location. Very comfortable even with 10 adult family members. Good Location.
Only problems we experienced, One, the main couch in the living room was broken. When you sat in it ,it seemed like you were sitting in a clam shell. The house rep. tried to put a piece of scrape wood underneath it. But it was still uncomfortable and awkward. It seemed like this broken couch had been like this for some time. Second, even though the house is listed for up to 10 people it only had dishes for 4. Kitchen equipment, like pots and pans, knives, spatula's, and silverware were for a smaller group. We had to go across the street to the KOA Campground to buy plastic bowls.
Besides these few discomforts we had a nice time. JD

The house was nice. I could certainly have used some AC or additional fans. While our overall impression of the house was that it was nice and a good fit for what we were looking for, we were borderline appalled at how unclean it was when we arrived. In light of Covid we were expecting to go through at give everything a good wipe down with some disinfectant wipes just for piece of mind. However when we did get there it was borderline filthy. The refrigerator had old food from previous guests and we dirty. The inside of the microwave were dirty. The floors and tables had dirt and crumbs all over. The sinks had toothpaste in them and were not cleaned. There were footprints in the shower and bathroom floors, and of the toilets was clearly uncleaned. The clasp on the dryer door was also broken and we had jerryrig it to keep it closed when in use. This was not a relaxing way to start off our trip, and we wound up spending a few hours cleaning the place so that we felt comfortable staying there. Despite that rocky start, we had a great time while we were there and did some fantastic hiking, kayaking and swimming.

Great location but several problems need attention
Arrived to find the house filled with fowl-smelling septic gas caused by the water in the bathroom traps evaporating between rentals. Problem solved by running the water and filling the traps, but the landlord should have done this prior to our arrival (hence the one star; otherwise very clean). Doors were unlocked when we arrived so we did not notice that the landlord gave us an incorrect door code for the digital lock. Returned home from our first day skiing to find ourselves locked out. Had to track down the landlord who gave us the correct code over the phone. (Hence the one star for check-in).
None of the bedrooms have drawers, so we had to spend the entire week living out of our suitcases. Even cheap motels provide drawers for guests' belongings. There were also not enough blankets (one short; luckily we keep an emergency blanket in our car). The email attachment with detailed instructions for the house (including complicated recycling rules) was mislabeled as "Directions to Bear Den Chalet" which we overlooked because we have GPS and know the local area. Otherwise, the house is great, with a well-equipped kitchen and lots of space. Best of all, the location is perfect for skiers. All-in-all, would definitely stay there again and would recommend to friends (but with the above warnings).

Beautiful Property
We enjoyed a beautiful fall weekend. The property was clean an beautiful and accommodated 8 adults.

Wonderful woodsy cabin.
They're were 10 of us and the cabin provided great space. The grill was top notch, the firepit well used and laundry was convenient. Great location.

Comfortable Living
The property was relatively new and included an updated kitchen. There was plenty of space to spread out in the house. It is very convenient to Lake Placid Center and other attractions. The only suggestions I have would be to add a television and communicate check-out procedures prior to the last day. There was only 1 television which was in the basement and it would be helpful to include a permanent spot for the Wi-Fi password and the code to the front door. I had to f/u for it which was fine but took extra time.

Cozy Mountain Cabin
This was a very nice home. We all had a wonderful vacation. It was close to everything we wanted to see. The house was nicely furnished. We would definitely recommend this home and we would stay again.

Great location! Beautiful construction...
House is in an amazing location, only a few minutes from Whiteface and an easy walk to dinner at the Hungry Trout. Quick access to many of the High Peaks trails and other activities.
The property is well maintained and appointed (the basement has much more potential for game room etc). The sauna was a great post adventure way to get the kinks and kricks out. Kitchen had everything we needed to serve up some delicious meals and the great room was perfect four our group to hang out in the evenings.

Perfect spot for unplugging.
We had a great time staying in Bear Den. Steve, our host, was really nice and we even visited him at the ADK Wildlife Refuge. We cooked most nights and the kitchen is stocked with everything we needed. The kids enjoyed the sauna! We would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful house
Everything was great. Our only complaint would be for a little better cleaning. We had to sweep floors as they were quite dirty and showers could have been cleaned better. Location was great for our needs, did hiking, biking and running.

Amazing!!!
Nice house with great Adirondack Charm. Clean, comfortable, and welcoming.
