Relais Ducale
Our bags were taken to our room (to our surprise) via stairs and elevator. Our room was spacious, always warm & looked out at the hotel’s back garden. We had a comfortable bed, plenty of storage & a basic bath. We were also provided with history of the local area. The staff was a well oiled team, helpful and accommodating. The hotel’s entrance was across from Palazzo dei Consoli & Piazza Grande. Along the street we found many ceramic artist’s shops, featuring hand painted majolica, to our delight! Near by you can take an elevator to Cattedrale dei Santi Mariano e Giacomo.
Gubbio is definitely a serious hill town and we stayed at the very top of it. We were directed by the hotel to park at the Funivia Parcheggio lower level and it was free! Later that day we took the very unique Funivia Colle Eletto up the hill to the Basilica of Saint Ubaldo. Highly recommended!
Another hotel detail is that it was were the TV series Don Matteo was filmed for Italian TV’s Rai Uno. The Hotel has the chess table set up outside the hotel's entrance with Don Matteo's beret and the police inspector's hat.
Don Matteo (English: Father Matthew) is an Italian television series that has been airing on Rai 1, Italian national television's first channel, since 2000.
The protagonist of the series is Father Matteo (portrayed by Terence Hill), a Catholic priest in a parish of the town of Gubbio, Perugia. He is also known for his unrivaled talent in investigating local crime stories. Father Matteo is a wise and respected person who really manages to understand people's problems, and always appears to be willing to help. Thanks to his charm and positivity, he often helps criminals on their way to redemption and he always convinces them to confess their crimes and to accept their responsibilities.

Location in this fantastic town is awesome!
Nothing not to like. Hotel is brilliant with "old school" comfort and style.

The Hotel Concierges Barbara and Fabrizio were fantastic. Extremely helpful and pleasant to speak to.
When booking, there is no explanation of having to climb over 50 steps just to get to the reception desk. The bathroom was a little “dated “.

Peter was gracious, helpful, hospitable. Amin was very helpful, accommodating and cheerful. He secured ice packs for my problem knee three times. All staff were friendly. My on daughter had a wonderful suite (402) with balcony where we enjoyed breakfast twice.
Air conditioning in 404 was not very efficient.

One of a kind property, lovely courtyards, great view. Hard working staff, and a good breakfast included. I had a back flare up on the date of our planned departure, and was unable to drive. The staff were able to extend our stay another night.
The location was great!
There are a lot of stairs to reach the check-in from the street level. From there, an elevator was available.
Be prepared for the bell tower in the piazza to chime every 15 mins. ;)
Driving in Gubbio is not for the faint of heart! Free parking was available, but was a bit of a walk to reach.

Location was perfect - especially for seeing the palio in piazza outside. Breakfast was good. Bedroom (Medici Suite) was large with beautiful garden just outside window.
Bell tower ringing loudly every 15 minutes throughout the night. Took a long time for hot water to come through shower in morning. A lot of stairs to get to rooms (and carry cases down).

Amazing location, right beside the Palazzo Sri Consoli in Gubbio with its stunning views. Staff are wonderful; friendly and helpful, especially Olga who served us apperitivi on the squre, even moving the chairs and table into the sun. The room was spotlessly clean and excellent value for money. Really fabulous stay.
If you arrive by car it’s tricky to find if you trust Google maps. You need to carefully read the instructions beforehand.

Breakfast was good. Room was excellent with large veranda. Air conditioning unit very noisy and they could have provided free bottles of water (they were charging 2 euros per bottle).
Noisy air conditioning.

Unbeatable location and helpful/friendly staff. Comfortable rooms, good breakfast
It was a bit hard to get to the hotel because the road was closed and the GPS didn’t show an alternate route. It would have been helpful to know beforehand that roads could be closed and to have the alternate routes as we had to park at the lower part of the town and get up to request instructions to get there via another route (if that happens to you take your car to the Funivia parking and you can then walk 3 mins to get to the hotel)

Fascinating and beautifully restored historic building. Great location. Delightful courtyard and rooftop gardens with stunning views. Excellent staff. We were given a suite in the most historic part of the building which must have been an upgrade. Breakfast served on the main piazza. Free parking easily available in 500 m

The Hotel Ducale is across from the largest open space in Gubbio. We arrrived towards the end of the day.
This is a true medieval city. Unless you have nerves of steel and an exceptional navigator,: including 3 methods of GPS/I-phone combined... do not try and drive within this walled city! This hotel is magical; the breakfast is a buffet. The manager Peter is extremely helpful. Be prepared to get your 10,000 steps in each day!

Bed was very comfortable and the view from our room was unbelievable! Yes, the hotel is located right near the bells, but we slept right through them. Breakfast was great, and everyone of the staff we met was super friendly and helpful. Peter at check in and Amir the bellman were both helpful. The hotel is a bit of a maze, and full of cool old furniture and decor, it’s really charming. The outdoor garden spaces were not really in use yet as the weather was just warming up but they looked great.

Wonderful central location in the historic heart of Gubbio - and in a fantastic building.
Cosy (but spacious), traditionally-furnished room.
Good heating (it was cold out!).
Excellent breakfast buffet.
Friendly, helpful staff - and lovely reception dog, Lola...
Bathroom would benefit from modernisation - or at least better lighting.

The hotel is placed in the biggest square of Gubbio. The restaurant/bar where Don Matteo and Maresciallo Cecchini usally played at scacchi is owned by the hotel. This hotel is in the center so it is easy to Sightsee the whole village. The staff was really professional and friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, such as the bathroom. The beed eas confortable and sheets were really clean.
Breakfast was served following Covid 19 rules, there were many delicious cakes hand made, wide choice of juices, conetti, salty snacks, bread, marmellades and jams, butter, fresh fruits, water and whatever you want from the bar, such as coffee tea cappuccino fresh orange juice and so on. It was a really good experience and I advice people who need to sleep in Gubbio to go there.

The central location
The hotel is dated and needs an upgrade. Room was small and dated. Uncomfortable mattress and very low pillow. There's the church bell across the hotel which rings every 15 minutes all night long which is a nightmare. The breakfast was average. We arrived on a Sunday and the roads leading to the hotel were closed off hence we had to park 15 minutes walk away with the luggage.
