Convenient location, easy walk to ski lifts.
Very old and dated.

Yukata gowns were great! view of trees from our main room was pristine, snowy and dreamy. breakfast was a huge affair and the large fire lit lounge was wonderful. So much to see and enjoy plus very helpful staff.
I got lost in the mass of corridors, at first. Onsen indoors was possibly needing a big clean. Outdoors was fine. Like many, the entranceway was surprisingly shabby, needing an overhaul.

Breakfast was buffet for 3 days and excellent. Traditional Japanese breakfast for 3 days was also great. Lots of variety. Discount vouchers were given for equipment hire and for lift tickets. Hosts were very friendly polite, and extremely helpful.
We enjoyed an onsen every day after skiing to relax & soothe our sore muscles.

Kogakuro is just a short walk from town and the lift - such a great location. Meiko and her staff were so helpful and friendly and always went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and fun. They supported us to find and book great local restaurants, gave us a lift to and from the train station, and were always available whenever we needed something. The rooms were large, comfortable and clean and the breakfast was outstanding. Highly recommend Kogakuro and hope we can make it back one day.

I mainly adored Mieko (the front desk person) her service was beyond any I’ve received in hospitality, she helped myself and my partner whether or not it was related to our accommodation and with great detail
The hotel was traditional so if you’re after ‘ritzy’ it’s not it, but it was worth every penny and our favourite part of our entire Japan holiday
The Onsen was wonderful and the breakfast had a perfect Japanese/English combo
The accommodation was comfy and clean - would definitely stay again just to see Mieko!

Excellent selection for breakfast, ranged from Japanese to Western style. Special mention to the delicious fluffy pancakes. Staff were excellent, polite and Mieko always sought to help us whether it was discount ski vouchers to booking transport to even helping up tie up our box to make it easier to carry to Tokyo!
Only small gripe was wifi was hard to get because our room was at the far end of the hotel. Coverage was fine in the common areas.

This is an older style hotel with large rooms by Japanese standards. Great location at the top of the main street. Easy walking distance to bars and restaurants. The breakfast was exceptional. Good boot and drying room. The staff were helpful and welcoming. They even went out of their way to assist our friends who were staying at another (less helpful) hotel with their travel arrangements. We would definitely stay there again.
The WiFi was patchy but that didn't bother us too much. After all,we were out in deep Japanese snow country and were there to ski,not gaze at our phones.

Kogakuro felt like home while very authentically Japanese. We loved the room with a snowy forest view and the onsen. It was our first onsen experience. The outdoor one was amazing! The breakfast buffet was great and dinner was delicious. Our favourite spot was by the fire in the evening after a long ski. Perfect way to end the day!
Just a note for people booking a shared bathroom room - the onsen is the shared bathroom. There isnt an option to shower privately and the onsen is a nude area. Just so you're aware :)

Fantastic place, staff and location! Breakfast will fill you for the day! No need for lunch, which means more time on the mountain!

Excellent breakfast (pancakes with strawberries and maple syrup!!) and dinner course, wonderfully personal assistance by the owner of the hotel, very central location. It’s not ski-in-ski-out, but the short walk to the closest lift is an easy stroll around the corner.

Friendly staff. Nice rooms in Japanese style.
