About this apartment rental
Panoramic splendor. Quiet, usually just the sound of the sea and birds. The one acre garden was included in “Great Gardens of New Zealand” by Derek Fell. Other than the big tree on the cliff edge the entire garden has been created over 32 years by the current owners, now semi-retired and living downstairs. Previous vocations: Legal Aid lawyer (US), teacher (US), orchardists (NZ), potter(NZ), child psychotherapist (NZ), art gallery owners (NZ).
Bed linens are not included in the tariff but are available for $40-$80. See below.
The upstairs apartment with separate entrance features a deck with a view of the Seaward Kaikoura mountain range, Kaikoura bay, beach, and township as well as sea and mountain views from every room. Lots of artwork everywhere. Exceptional star gazing.
The size of the guest apartment is 50 square meters. The kitchen was designed by a local artist. The kitchen bench, and bathroom vanity were handcrafted and purpose built. A good selection of New Zealand books and artwork complement the tasteful decoration and relaxed atmosphere. Free wireless computer access with good speed.
Bath and kitchen linens included. Bed linens extra.
Suited to whatever your degree of fitness and energy, there are a variety of walks, with stunning views that take you around the owners’ garden, the peninsula or down to the township.
Special conditions:
Optional bed linens: $40 for the queen only. $60 for queen and single (if using sofa or fold away bed) $80 if using sofa and fold away bed.
Young children need close supervision as stairs up to the flat inside building are open at the top, the horizontal wires on the deck railing may invite climbing, and there is a pond in the garden.

The place in the clifftop is an amazing space. The handmade art pieces adorning the apartment, paired with one of the most spectacular views I've ever seen. Snow-capped mountains and sweeping curves of the Kaikoura beaches... truly amazing, and only 5 minutes from town.
Quite a find.

A very clean, well-kept flat.
Wonderful view, a landlord who takes care of any problems immediately and solves them. Always happy to stay again in this beautiful house with a charming and very well-kept garden.

Beautiful property and location. It had everything we needed. Martha and her family were very available if we needed them and lovely to communicate with. Highly recommend.

Perfect way to end our South Island trip.

I had a lovely two night stay, the owner's were lovely and very welcoming. The apartment was clean and quiet with a beautiful outlook, especially on a clear day.
The apartment is close to Kaikōura township, but being on the hill made it feel remote. I loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves, and also walking some of the many tracks close to the accommodation.
I will definitely stay again :)

Wonderful couple of days in Martha’s apartment overlooking Kaikoura. Well organised in advance; Martha & Rob we’re on holiday themselves, so we never met them, but self check was simple, and their son Seth popped in to make sure we were settled. The apartment was perfect for us, the garden was wonderful, and the view just magical. Obviously the weather helped, but even as we were leaving on a wet final day, the view down to the town was still something special. Would highly recommend!

This location has to be the best view in Kaikoura. From stunning mountain views to dolphins playing in the bay, it was hard to leave. Great for a relaxing getaway. We got to meet the fantastic hosts who gave us a tour of thier beautiful garden as well. Would highly recommend.

Amazing view, clean and comfortable apartment and friendly owners.

A beautiful place too stay with helpful and thoughtful hosts. Wouldn't wish for anything to change - it is just perfect. Despite the weather being poor for much of our stay we were able to enjoy the beautiful garden and get glimpses of the snow-capped mountains across the water.

We loved it all -the hospitality, the view, the garden, the art work, the peacefulness - we were like children filled with delight. With gratitude.

We arrived in soft rain and knew very soon that we had picked a good one.

Had a great stay. Just so quiet and relaxing with a great view. We had cloud, fog, rain and brilliant sunshine but the view was always worth looking at. The flat is warm, well appointed and comfortable.

Great spot for enjoying the views of the bay and mountains.
Rob and Martha were charming hosts, and we loved Rob's guided tour of the garden.
The accommodation would benefit from a little up-dating, but very comfortable none the less.

Martha was an excellent host and most accommodating. The apartment was well laid out with everything you needed. It was a great spot to explore the area and also a great place to stay, rest, read and admire the fantastic scenery from your own private balcony.
4.8
Martha, Rob & Seth are excellent hosts - great communication and keen to share Rob's amazing garden and pottery skills. Just what we needed - a quiet spot away from crowded/noisy motel/hotel accommodation and with an amazing view. Thanks for your hospitality.

What an adorable apartment. Sunshine galore! View overlooking the town of Kaikoura. Nice desk area for writing or painting. Had all the basics we needed.

Spacious apartment with extraordinary views over Kiakoura.
The only property we stayed in during our time in NZ with insect screens at the windows which was welcome.
Allow lots of time to sit out on the balcony and soak up the view.
Property is pretty much on the circular Kiakoura Peninsula walk, but is quite a walk from the main shops and cafes.
There is a steep footpath and steps nearby taking you to shore level.
The garden is an absolute delight.
Sadly we never got to meet Barbara, but communication with her was very easy before our arrival. Her adult son looked after our check in and out.
Gorgeous place, wish we could’ve stayed longer.

This is a photographers dream place to spend some time. Loved the location, city and neighborhood. Apartment needs some TLC but all the important amenities are provided and operational. Great stay!

What a wonderful place, well equipped apartment and the most wonderful view even from inside and the very large deck. Quirky artwork inside and outside, loved the ski chairs and swing. Beautiful garden with stream and pond.
Easy short walk to beach

The hosts couldn't possibly be any nicer, the property is gorgeous and the view spectacular. Although it's on the cliff above town you can reach most everything on foot.

We really enjoyed our time in Kaikoura and this place and Martha were a big part of that. The view is amazing of the bay. It’s a five minute drive to the restaurants. We did the Peninsula Walkway circuit which you can actually start and end and the vrbo. Martha recommended some places to eat (Zephyr, Simes) all were great. If you’re looking for something unique in Kaikoura this is it!

A very well thought out and comfortable apartment in a lovely residential setting with amazing views over Kaikoura. Martha and Robert couldn’t have been more helpful as we’d arrived without a car and were slightly stranded.
