Lovely old building

Breakfast was cooked very well.
It was a good size room, and the bathroom was clean with mini toiletries provided.
Parking outside was convenient.
The hotel exterior was also very nice.
The room was painted completely black including ceiling, which made it very dark, it affected my mood.
I would have preferred a bright and airy room that was inviting and comfortable. There was a cupboard which had a broken sliding door so could not be used.

The food there is outstanding one of the best meals I've had at any hotel I have stayed in. Staff were great made you feel relaxed.
Room needs updating but I'm sure this is happening
4.2
Lovely, very modern room. Fantastic shower. wonderful breakfast.
I loved the room but it may not be to everyones taste, particularly as it part of a very traditional, stone built property.

We absolutely loved everything about this incredible hotel! From the lovely staff, the beautiful room and the gorgeous location. We will definitely be returning!
There wasn't anything... we loved our stay!

it’s beautiful! very clean, peaceful with a lovely atmosphere , beautifully decorated throughout and staff super friendly
unfortunately there was problems with the hot water / shower - tried to have a shower around 11pm and it made such a racket and water was cold, tried again in the morning around 10am and same issue water was freezing and noisy again even after running it for 10 mins - didn’t have time to report the issue so can’t confirm how it would have been handled was super disappointing though this should have been checked before guests staying

Had a great stay

4.2
great service from the staff
good food at dinner and breakfast
small bedroom (4) with no wardrobe or clothes hanging, and most of all, most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on in my life

We arrived here for our wedding night. The place was very clean and the gentleman who showed us to our very pleasant. The room was small, well equipped and comfortable. The breakfast was ok.
I feel a little extra effort could have been made as it was our wedding night - however, the room was clean and comfortable therefore we can’t complain.
4.2
Lovely room and friendly staff, excellent dinner and breakfast
Only problem we encountered was the room was very hot, unable to turn off radiator
4.2
amazing bedroom and bathroom in the regal suite
loud music coming from the kitchen at breakfast. it did not suit the property .

Breakfast, Dinner with guests who joined us and room... all good

Very welcoming staff
On arrival the reception was in darkness because a football match on in the bar! It was ridiculously hot which the bar staff said is hard to work in - defies logic.
Our junior suite (dovecote) clearly in need of modernising - doormat and carpet up stairs to the room worn, the upholstery and furnishings tatty, the shower in need of a clean, the wall above the radiator scorched from heat... literally a hole in wall where cables fed through, very disappointing.
Look at website this room does not feature - when I asked if all rooms were like this I was told if paid £10 more the deluxe doubles were much nicer and more modern. Having already paid £110 b&b that is ridiculous.
Steps outside are parallel to the wall rather than straight in front and with poor lighting my husband stepped straight off the highest - that is a risk.
Breakfast was lovely and in the daylight the bar area is quite funky (if you like vivid green wallpaper). The seating is incredibly low. It was clear from other tables there was a very mixed reception to the quality of rooms.
Outside seating area shows the calibre it used to be/aspires to be - appreciate COVID may well have had a big impact.
Such a shame as clearly there was a good reputation (friends were married here 15 years ago and spoke very highly of it) They really need to invest in delivering what they are promoting on the website.

Very pleasant self contained cottage with large mezzanine bedroom. Facilities were good. Totally self contained and extremely private.
Would have liked some hooks in bedroom and bathroom for robes.
4.2
comfortable room. good shower.
We had booked a lodge but they were awful: Poorly maintained - constant rattles from a flue , up lighter with 3 bulbs all broken, TV remote broken, very squeaky bed , Wi-Fi not working. We asked for a move to the main hotel. We got it.
When any business allows staff to create policies without management knowledge, oversight or control, there will be problems.
This hotel could be a business case study:
Our first morning, we were woken at 06:30 by the strong vibrations of music from somewhere beneath our room. The source of the music was the breakfast room. A Sonos speaker, inappropriately loud when we went down an hour later. I manually turned it down (we were the only guests) and informed the server I had done so.
"Ah, that’s xxxxxxxxxxx (a staff member), he likes music loud as he works" was the response. Mine was "I’m a guest and if I wanted an 06:30 alarm call I’d have asked for it".
The next morning: No change: 06:30, loud music.
The guest information book in the room clearly states that the room will be made up every day.
Ours wasn’t.
We complained and were told that unless you display the small and unobtrusive "please make up my room" hangar then your room won’t be made up .. like it was our fault.
Not going to overwork the other issues ..

The staff are always friendly and helpful. We were pleased when we were offered a free upgrade to a bigger room. The breakfasts are always very good.
Nothing to dislike.
4.2
Good location spoilt by soulless decor. it is trying to be modern but ends up looking cold and empty. The bed and sheets were comfortable and nice towels. it is in a quiet location. Nice fruit for breakfast.
Needed a bit of tlc in our room. Broken mirror door and cracked hand washbasin. We didn’t like the meal soggy salad and tasteless risotto with sprout tops for decoration. Breakfast would have been better if the toast and muffin were buttered.
4.2
We love this hotel. Full of character with friendly helpful staff, and excellent food and drinks.
Nothing to dislike.

Great outdoor space and as it was sunny able to enjoy a glass of wine.
Afternoon tea is a must thankfully we could have a doggy bag as it was generous portions.
Our evening meal was fantastic,a bit different I especially liked the edible flowers
Breakfast had an excellent choice great to have fresh berries on have with cereal or yogurt
Nothing really negative to say

The Restaurant was Excellent value for money, they were doing a set menu, 3 courses for £18, freshly made, fresh produce, excellent service..
The picture you see, is a re-furbished room, or so I was told when I checked out.
My room wasn't refurbished in any way, very tired, needed lots of tlc, TV, no remote, Iron, didn't work, sockets didn't work, shower tap didn't work, bed was the wrong way around, the longest edge was under the headboard, so my legs & feet stuck out the end, had to sleep diagonally, luckily I wasn't spending much time in the room, or may have complained, didn't see any management either?
4.2
The Dinner was very Good Quality, however it would be nice to have options for 'bar menu' type options rather than full a la Carte. The Breakfast was excellent.
4.2
good location. surprisingly quiet
historic architecture
