About this cabin rental
Relive those lazy days of yesteryear by the lake! This cozy 3-bedroom 1-bath seasonal camp on Malletts Bay holds all the charm and character of days gone by while including the comforts of home. Relax and watch the boats go by from the screened-in porch or take a dip in the lake off the private raft. The raft is also perfect for fishing or sunning. Blue Camp can sleep up to 8 (counting the sofa sleeper), although some guests enjoy sleeping on the screened porch for more of an outdoor experience. Limited dock space and mooring can be made available for access to your boat upon request when booking and when water levels are not too high. Fully equipped kitchen, dining area and living room with wood-stove for those cool nights. Quiet location is on a dead end dirt road within walking distance from the general store. For lakeside or Church Street dining, Burlington is accessible by bike (30-45 min on the community bike path), boat, or automobile (15 min). For the more adventurous, several zip lines are within 90 minutes and various restaurants are available on the NY side of Lake Champlain which can be crossed with your boat or by ferry. Bikes (4), kayaks (2), and paddle board are available for use. Other attractions include hiking trails, mountain climbing, museums, wineries, cruises on Lake Champlain, drive-in movie theatre, and more.

We enjoyed Blue Camp's porch view of Mallets Bay, especially the sunrise views and watching the boats on the bay. It's in a quiet neighborhood and is well located for easy drives to the islands or mountains for hiking or Burlington for dining and shopping.

We loved John’s cabin. Well equipped with everything we could need plus so much more. The location on the bay was perfect and our dogs loved the property. John was very thoughtful and prepared the rental for our arrival; when we arrived the fire was going the lights were on and music was playing. Our only regret was that we didn’t make it to the basement until the last day; don’t miss out on the fun like we did.

This cabin was truly the perfect getaway. The decor is lovely, the rooms are quaint, and the area is gorgeous. The biggest highlight is the porch facing the lake with the rocking chairs - you want to spend all day there. Highly recommend a stay here.

What a cool old cabin! John was always responsive leading up to our stay and very kindly had the heater on for us since it was pretty cold and we arrived a few hours later than we planned due to a storm. Hope to come back again and for a longer stay to spend more time in the area and on the lake!

I traveled to Vermont with my 17-year-old son mostly to look at university of Vermont but also just to enjoy being back in Vermont. I lived in Vermont for a few years 25 years ago. This was absolutely the perfect place for a visit. The screened in porch is amazing and the view of Malletts Bay so wonderful. We lucked out beautiful weather, but I think I would enjoy staying in this little cabin just as much with thunderstorms and snow storms using the woodstove and being cozy playing games. John is so friendly and helpful in every aspect. This is a charming place in a wonderful location and I highly recommend.

What a wonderful, well taken care of place for relaxation and recreation! So well equipped with anything you would ever want or need, even Canoes and Bicycles, lounge chairs and ping pong table, etc.
Gorgeous view onto the water, from the beautiful and very large screened in porch, with enough privacy to feel comfortable!
John, the owner, was quickly available when needed, helpful and friendly!
All was so nicely organized and clean.
Would definitely come back again!
Great location too, close to many good walking paths, restaurants and stores, even a Drive In Movie Theater.
Thank you, John, for making this unique camp
available to all those who need “some time away from it all” and a
“home away from home”!

Beautiful property and surrounding area.

The gorgeous view from the large, lovely screened in porch above the lake was where we spent the majority of our time. Also enjoyed the two-person kayaks to venture out on the lake, swimming (with our dog), and the four bicycles to explore the nearby bike paths and the surrounding area. If you enjoy biking, take the ride to Burlington; it's a great way to spend a day. The accommodations are somewhat rustic, but everything is in good working order and convenient to stores and restaurants and Burlington, less than 15 minutes by car. We had a very enjoyable, relaxing stay enjoying the outdoors in this great location!

Nice place, great view, good location.

Location of the property was great. There was a lot of geese feces in the backyard. We weren’t really able to use the backyard.
We were asked to launder the linens before we left, but the dryer did not work it heated up, but the drum was not moving. So we had to take the linens and towels off property to get them cleaned.
The previous tenants probably didn’t do a decent job of cleaning it up and we made sure it was spotless, even cleaner than when we arrived before we left for the next tenants.
All and all great location. Great property, would stay there again.

Our family had a fabulous time at the cottage. We were celebrating our sons 2023 UVM graduation. We enjoyed the convenience of the Lakehouse, being outside of the busy city of Burlington. It was a great transition from college to summer time.

Awesome. It should be noted that the bedrooms do not have ceilings so there is not sound privacy between the bedrooms. Otherwise it is a charming old fashioned lake-house with everything you need. Loved it. Beautiful view and a great porch!

This rustic and charming camp is such a beautiful, comfortable and relaxing place to stay. My husband and I loved it and it was perfect for us to enjoy the bay and colorful fall leaves.
The living room / dining area was ample with French doors that open to the screened porch, spanning the front of the house, allowing the fresh air in and a lovely view. The kitchen is well-supplied with items for cooking.
The host, John, lives next door (it is his seaplane in the photos) and came over to greet us shortly after we arrived. He was present, friendly, and unobtrusive.
As others have noted, as discussed in the rental agreement, a cleaning fee is not charged and professional cleaning not included. This may be a concern for some as you are at the mercy of the grace and goodwill of the renters before you. Ours left the home neat and clean. We came with cleaners, sponges and a bucket antibacterial wipes. Then you do the same when you leave. Hey, it's a camp experience so you go with the flow.
Handy hints: bring cleaning supplies, kitchen and bath towels, bed linens and blankets. This is common at beach rentals too.
I note the rate has gone up significantly for 2023 so future renters may want a less "do it yourself" experience for the price. To that end, perhaps a cleaning service option could be added, a queen bed in one sleeping room (by removing a closet) and updating the mattress(es) and sofa which look fine but could use a refresh to make them more comfortable, though they are serviceable.
Thank you for sharing you camp with us! It was a memorable and special experience.

This “camp” is so cozy and welcoming. I arrived late in the evening and the lights were on, the cabin was warm and cozy and I couldn’t wait to snuggle down in the bed. This was our second time renting with John and we’ll be there again. The views are unmatched and the quiet leaves you feeling relaxed and safe.

The Blue Camp cottage was very cosy and comfortable. Best of all is the spectacular view of Malletts Bay and the mountains!
John was a great host and had all we needed to make our stay enjoyable!

The listing and prior reviews thoroughly explain what to expect with this property. Not only could we pack accordingly, the only surprise at the end of our eight-hour journey was just how cool this cottage really was. The weather didn't cooperate well enough for water recreation (kayaks/paddle boards/raft), but the bikes proved to be a must-have given the location's proximity to such a well-connected trail network. They were in great shape. The area (and landlord) is very friendly. I'm glad this little cottage still exists so people like us who like the simplicity of the past can find a place to enjoy. Tip: make it easy on yourself for vacation. Avoid the drive to the big grocery store and shop the Mazza general store and Mazza farmer's market, both of which are very close by.

Awesome views of Malletts Bay from the living room & the big screened in porch with big comfy rocking chairs. We loved the location, very quiet yet close to stores, Burlington only 10 to 15 minutes away. The bike trail along Lake Champlain & the causeway bike & walking trail to South Hero ferry is spectacular. Easy ride from the house. We enjoyed our stay very much & we will be back.

This was a family trip which was unfortunately cut short. The location was wonderful. Close to things, right on the lake and very quiet. The house is very cute with a great porch overlooking the yard and lake.

This was one of our all-time favorite places to stay. The neighborhood is quiet, the view is absolutely stunning, John is fantastic & so friendly, and the sunrises left us speechless. It's a small, cozy space that has everything you could ever need, both inside an outside. The kitchen is the most fully-stocked kitchen we have ever seen in a rental home with a full knife set, coffee maker, toaster oven, lobster pot and so so much more. A super close ride to Burlington, local farms for fresh produce, restaurants, and if you need ideas, there is a binder full of local parks and nearby attractions. This house is FILLED with charm and small details & nuances that you don't see in houses anymore — we fell in love with everything about it and cannot wait to come back in the future!

We (2 + 3 adult children) had a fabulous stay at the Blue Camp and if you are looking for an authentic, lake-side camping experience in VT then I highly recommend this place.
The views from the porch and living room are stunning and include sun and moon rises.
The interior is very charming and authentic.
The camp is very well equipped both in and out - we used the bicycles and kayaks and are only sorry that we didn't use them sooner. Views of the shore as you paddle to the point are exceptional.
Kitchen is very functional and outdoor grill is great.
Great farmer's markets and fresh produce in the immediate area.
The gas fireplace is perfect for taking out the morning chill.
Be aware that the BR partitions do not go up to the ceiling (the bedrooms are partitioned-off more like loft space) and the floors creak a bit, but for us this only added to the camping experience that we were looking for. This is a camp, not a house.
Communicating with John was a breeze, and without a doubt I would rent this camp again. VT camping at it's best.

Location was paramount in our visit. We went to Stowe fall Festival one day. Next went to Adirondack mountains in New York the next day. Then to White mountains in New Hampshire the following day.
Numerous visits to locations in Vermont. Lake Champlain holds many picture opportunities. The fall colors were the best we have ever seen and they were everywhere. Can't wait to return. John was a very gracious host and his home had all the basics and more. The screened in porch was restful for tea and snacks in the morning and evening.
Thank you, John

We really enjoyed the property itself. It was in a great area with easy access to both Burlington and other spots we visited in Colchester. The only issue we saw was that it was not advertised that the property was to be cleaned by the guests themselves. As everyone has a different standard of "clean" it is hard to judge what was actually cleaned before our arrival. It would help to have had this one aspect advertised on the Vrbo website ad itself before having to book this to find out. I am not sure if someone checks the properties, but when we arrived there was no sheets on the beds and only the comforters which is not appealing as a paying customer as I paid a good amount of money to stay there for 3 days. As I stated, everyone has a different standard when it comes to cleanliness and knowing now that customers are responsible to clean everything from the linens to the floors to the bathroom is just not as appealing. Other than that, we had no issues and the house itself was very cute and well kept for an older camp. We would definitely love to stay there again just some suggestions for the future.

Everything you need to know is in your check-in email and rental agreement. Never had to bother the owner with any questions. Many appliances and amenities you could possibly expect are already supplied, including a full kitchen, with the one exception that we ran into being no hairdryer to be found. I get the sense that the neighbor to the south is a bit joyless, but we didn't need to have any words with them since we were quiet, kept the dog on a leash on the property, kept the car on the property, and did not go on the dock. I would say the camp could use a big update, absolutely, but you're getting good value for the location at least. If you can't handle a spider or a dated and dusty camp, don't go. The shower is super small (and my only major gripe), but the water runs nice and hot (it is tankless, so if it goes cold, keep it running). Keep in mind you have to set the place just as you found it on your way out.
