The location is always absolutely stunning
We haven’t been here for 2 years and in that time what a deterioration. Very run down and overgrown gardens. The pool area is a shambles with rusted furniture broken tiles, weeds everywhere and broken fences. The room was shabby. With the linen and towels looking very worn. Even the winery was a mess and untidy. Such a shame as it used to be a luxury estate and now it’s just a motel kind of vibe. Won’t go back. Not worth the money. The staff seem very aware of the problems and don’t seem to be able to do anything about the lack of maintenance and upkeep.
The staff were the only good thing about it.

We really had a great time at carrington estate and the hospitality we received is beyond words...
The water was not drinkable. But was informed by staff well in advance and provided bottles of water too.

View and restaurant were amazing
Water had high iron, and it was coloured brown. Only 2 bottles of clean water provided and everytime had to get a new one from reception.
Also the gym was getting repaired so couldn't use it.

Luxury stay on Karikari Peninsula, a great location for Karikari beaches which are some of the most beautiful in NZ. Rooms were spacious and clean. Pool area was nice with smaller heated pool alongside it.
We had tried to book golf lessons on the day that we were staying but were told their golf instructor was on annual leave so this was somewhat disappointing.
In the restaurant we were told that they were short staffed one night and that did not bother us in the slightest. The following night however we tried to eat in the bar area as the menu was different and we wanted to eat from a different menu than the restaurant. The young male staff member at the bar told us that they weren’t serving food (although they were still serving drinks against the rules of NZ liquor license) and had rather intoxicated patrons when we entered. When we went back in to the restaurant, we asked about the bar menu and we were told a flat no from another young staff member, seemingly not wanting to try and help us. We asked the manager chef and they had no problem helping us. He was very accommodating and made great food. Overall some great staff being let down by younger inexperienced ones.

Staff were very friendly and the food from the restaurant was nice.
Property & rooms were run down and outdated.
Pool area didn't look like photos, grass overgrown etc.
Felt very understaffed and like it was once an amazing resort but had gone downhill.

Location is great and facilities
The property including the grounds need a update, looking tired would expect this especially from
a high end property and the grounds and pool
area need to reflect the sam standard as the golf course.

The grounds were immaculate, except for the masses of
rubbish the morning after the Food & Wine Expo that littered everywhere around the property.
Pool was unkept, rubbish everywhere due to the expo, rooms are VERY dated, air con was redundant, staff were… ok, bar was mainly catered for locals as opposed to guests (especially at night).

Location
The pool was green, big health issue
Under staffed leading to aggressive customer service
No management, poor staff training
Unclean toilet facilities, public facilities backed up with fasces
Tired, dated decor
Reception staff were awful
Air conditioning didn’t work which you need because you cant open the windows due to the mass numbers of mosquitoes
Ran out of water for a day, but no communication or empathy
Plumbing issues, toilets running
But, food and food service was amazing even in the tough conditions

love the scenery and the festival
aircon was working, screen doors were off so you couldn’t use the airflow to cool you. pool was disgusting and needs to be cleaned

It’s a great location with a very comfy bed. I liked the reading room and pool table.
The decor in our accommodation was a bit tired and dated. There was dust on the bottom of the coffee tables but it was clean…just not spotless.

The views are amazing a recharge for the soul. We had an awesome round of golf and some good meals.
There seemed to be a bit of a lack of management at Carrington. A shame really as this is an awesome special location. I would visit again most definitely there is real potential here, I hope someday the management steps up.
