About this cabin rental
The Cottage is a former Bugsy Siegel hunting cabin, nestled in the trees on a 14,000 sf lot. The style is modern/rustic with lots of light & high ceilings. Everything has been upgraded in this renovated 1926 cottage. Secluded & minutes from the famous Tudor House, the gathering spot of Bugsy and his gang in the days of prohibition.
The “Hideout” is a former Bugsy Siegel hunting cabin, nestled in the trees on a 14,000 sf lot. The style is modern/rustic with lots of light & high ceilings. Everything has been upgraded in this renovated 1926 cottage. Secluded & minutes from the famous Tudor House, the gathering spot of Bugsy and his gang in the days of prohibition. If you would like to take the Bugsy Challenge, you will be given 3 clues that will lead you to the secret location of the safe containing the long-lost “goods” that Bugsy left behind. Your reward is receiving 40% off your next stay at one of our unique properties.
The Cottage provides an experience not to forget with a cozy fireplace, a large Smart TV, and a full kitchen (the oven is a countertop convection oven). It is set up as a studio with a very comfy queen bed tucked away in its own nook with a privacy screen. There is another sleeping area upstairs in the loft and it is an open loft with a ladder for access. It was designed this way to keep it open and airy. Note: We have gotten feedback that it may be a little tight for 4 adults, and we have made a few modifications to create more space and at the same time have gotten very positive feedback for couples with kids.
The 2nd part of the property with a separate entrance in the back is at times rented separately. There are no shared walls as the storage area and closet sit between the two spaces.
Lake Arrowhead is in the mountains at about 5,500 feet. The main highlight is the change of seasons and clean crisp air. The temperature in the summer is approximately 15 degrees cooler than other areas at lower altitudes. In the winter, there is snow. It is incredibly beautiful and peaceful with lots of trees. It is more of a small-town feel with narrow roads in the Villas where the cottage is located.
The Village at Lake Arrowhead sits on the lake. There are shops and restaurants at the Village and the Arrowhead Resort and Spa is close by. The Tudor house is nearby and if you search around you can read more about Bugsy's former gathering place where there is entertainment weekly and they have an excellent brunch.
About the Area:
Lake Arrowhead, Lake Gregory, and Big Bear Lake are recreational lakes in the Southern California San Bernardino mountains. They offer fresh crisp air, cooler weather (10-15 degrees) in the summer, and snow in the winter. They also offer a more relaxed and low-key energy “vibe” making them ideal locations for getaways to renew the mind, spirit, and body and to reconnect with family and friends.
We answer frequent questions regarding the lakes and have put together some information below on what makes each location unique so it is easier to match with your specific goals for your time away. Upon booking one of our properties, you will receive more detailed information on how you can spend your time in the area.
Big Bear Lake is a public lake and friendly to all types of boats and water sports and is the largest lake of the three. There is a short paved bike and walking trail that goes along the lake. Big Bear is a City and is more populated with stores, restaurants, and nightlife than the other two locations. It has more of a “desert” feel in terms of its topography. Big Bear is 26 miles up the mountain from Lake Arrowhead, Although none of our properties are in Big Bear, we recommend it for a day trip.
Lake Arrowhead is a private lake and is accessible to guests staying at properties with lake rights if the owners have permitted guests to use their ALA (Arrowhead Lake Association) passes. If this is the case, the Amenity “lake access” will be checked on the listing. In our list of properties, the Gingerbread Cottage is providing lake access. With lake access, specifically, the lake trail is accessible. There is a $10 per person per day fee that is required to be paid to receive a wristband for access. More information can be found on the ALA website. Swimming is allowed from the lake trail at any location except the beach clubs (these are restricted to owners). There is no ability to launch boats or SUPs on the lake. The Village is lakefront and is the main area for shops and restaurants and has a fitness center as well. The Queen boat is a tour boat on Lake Arrowhead that provides much of the history of the town - tickets can be purchased at the shop by the lake. There is a local company that offers water skiing lessons boat tours and rentals. This area has more of a small town and alpine feel to it. The Villas area (south side of the lake) in Lake Arrowhead is cooler and gets more snow that lasts longer than the north side of the lake which gets more sun in the winter and is hotter in temperature in the summer. The Villas area is an older area with older homes and narrower streets. The Tudor House is an event center offering Sunday brunch and a variety of events. Skypark is a local attraction as well as Snow Valley for skiing for both Lake Arrowhead and Lake Gregory. Lake Arrowhead is 15 minutes up the mountain from Lake Gregory.
Lake Gregory is a public lake in the town of Crestline, a small town about 20 minutes from the base of the mountain of San Bernardino. It is the closest mountain town to events and locations “down the hill”. In the past few years, the lake operations have become privately managed with significant improvements being done at the lake including the development of a water park, beach improvements, and boat, kayak, and canoe rentals. There is a fee to access the beach area and the water park and no fee to access the 2 1/2 mile trail around the lake. Fishing is allowed and more info can be found on the Lake Gregory website. Crestline has a small-town alpine feel with the lake nestled amongst the tall trees. Crestline gets less snow than the other 2 lake locations. The quaint town has restaurants, coffee shops, and thrift stores.
Twin Peaks/Blue Jay sits in between Crestline and Lake Arrowhead and is convenient to both lakes. It has its restaurants, shops, and thrift stores. It is famous for its outdoor farmer’s market on Thursday afternoons (seasonal).
We have an age minimum of 23 for adults staying with us.
The 2nd queen bed is in the loft accessed by a secured ladder. The loft is open to the living room downstairs and the other sleeping space.
In winter months if there is snow, parking may be limited to one car.
For 28+ nights stay, please contact us before booking. The refundable damage deposit is $100. We will provide bi-weekly cleaning at the price quoted, or there is an option to self-clean with a refundable cleaning deposit of $350. The longer-term cleaning fee is $225. The difference between this fee and the initial cleaning fee paid upon booking will be collected along with the deposits before check-in.

Quiet neighborhood, not far from family.
Would be nice to have a small step stool to reach some items in cabinets. Might suggest bringing a shower cap. Would stay again.

We killed 4 spiders, Loft had no railing Per code needs to have a min of a 42 in high railing, Ladder was built with 2x4's Min Tred depth needs to be 5 inches, the light fixture in the bathroom had exposed wire (fire hazard) the loft did not have an egress window in case of an emergency, we did not feel safe and the property owner would not refund the last two night. We left after the 1st night.

Delightful stay in a safe environment
This adorable little cabin had everything we needed- plus. Appreciated commitment by owner/ staff to do all they could to provide a safe environment. Traveling during COVID can be scary- and these folks had a plan in place to address. We grilled some awesome birthday steaks here! :-)

Winter Getaway
We went up looking for a quiet getaway and to get the sense of being in the mountains and this did not disappoint. The cabin is surrounded by large trees in a cute neighborhood that was great for taking our dog on walks and breathing the fresh air.
The cabin itself was warm and cozy with all the amenities you need to still feel at home. From the personalized greeting written to us upon arrival to the doggy blankets they provided that my dog curled up in at night we felt welcomed and at home.
My wife and I enjoy the close proximity to the hiking trails and shopping in downtown lake Arrowhead which is just a short drive away.
We look forward to coming back to Lake Arrowhead and will definitely be booking the Bugsy Cabin when we do.

False advertising of cottage. Horrible experience!
This is what I replied to email from owner:
Good afternoon, I am going to be very honest that our stay was HORRIBLE!!! First off, you guys falsely advertise what that "cottage" actually is. The pictures that you display look nothing like what the cabin is. It DOES NOT fit four people. You advertise 1 bedroom, and theres not. Its a SMALL studio w a loft. SMALL is an understatement!!! We could barely move in there, and the murphy and loft beds were sooooooo uncomfortable. Nobody got to sleep well at all. My son had to sleep on kitchen floor cuz no room!!. It was the worst location and experience we ever had!! We had no time to get ready for the wedding, cuz we drove around forever looking for it...only to find out we passed it NUMEROUS times cuz your truck was blocking the cottage and ADDRESS!! Then, you werent even nice about it. I will definitely NOT give a good review. We couldve stayed in a hotel room that my dad stayed in that was MUCH bigger and better, and he paid less than I did. Im sorry, but this was a rip off, and you should really be ashamed for scamming ppl into paying that much for something not worth it.
What is advertised on the VRBO is NOT what the cottage looks like at all! It looked like an outdoor shed that maybe 2 ppl could move around in. Sorry, but this was my first exp w VRBO and it was horrible!!!

Quick Stay
The cabin is small but well laid out; with a fully appointed kitchen (a big plus). Our visit was just a quick overnight stay for a wedding, therefore we really did not have the opportunity to enjoy the property fully.
Beware the streets are not clearly marked, very narrow and steep. Not for the novice or the old .... ;)

The property was cute. Smaller than it appeared in the photo, but that was fine as it was just two of us. Really disappointed with the owner. Said she was available and then wouldn’t respond. Asked for a 5 start review and wasn’t very helpful. Didn’t go out of her way to make the experience better. Wanted to charge $20 per extra hour if we wanted to check in early or late. $35 if we didn’t notify her. $10 if you get make up on a towel. It’s been a week and I still haven’t gotten back my deposit.

Tiny house living with all the amenities
The property did not dissappoint. To access the murphy bed was easy. Would love to know where you bought the sofa and murphy bed very comforable. The kitchen had lots of room and items for cooking (toaster ovens great). I do wish there was some " K cup coffee pods" to use in the Keurig, as I must have misunderstood when I asked about a "coffee pot" I brought ground coffee and there was not the adapter. Thx

Not at all as represented in the photo
There was no lake pass as was represented. I hope we don’t get penalized for it not being there. Couldn’t get ahold of the owner because her mailbox was full. Closely packed cabins so we couldn’t walk the dog. Only one wine glass! We ended up not staying the night.

Wonderful time and a great place.
This place was perfect for my girlfriend and I. We thought it was so cozy and came with everything we could want in a stay. We will be back for sure again in the future.

Cute little cabin
Very small but excellent use of the space. All updates are nicely done and location is close to the village so getting around was easy. We really enjoyed our stay!

Cute and tiny.
We had our grandchildren come to visit with their parents. That totaled 6 adults and 7 grandkids. We did not have an oven outside of the toaster oven provided and we had hauled up the mountain a 12 lb. standing rib roast for my birthday dinner with the family. Never fear, we purchased a turkey roaster at the local hardware store and all enjoyed a beautiful roast with all the sides and birthday cake picnic style on the living room floor. The snow arrived in time for the children to play outside most of the day. They all enjoyed the tiny cabin and the close quarters that inspired conversation and ingenuity. The grandkids loved “cracking” the safe and discovering treasure.

Quaint and comfortable
Our stay was very pleasant. We stayed for a couple of nights and really enjoyed the cottage and the local area. Lisa, the owner, was very helpful and quick in replying to our questions regarding the stay. We definitely recommend this cottage to our friends and family.

Fun, Cozy Cottage with some history
My wife and I came here for our anniversary weekend and we had a wonderful time at this cottage! It was very cozy and the heater warmed the place up very quickly. They really used the square footage of the cottage very well. We never felt cramped. The Murphy Bed was very comfortable. This place also had a loft with an extra bed that we thought was very neat. All the amenities worked well and suited our needs. It's not too far from the village and shops in Lake Arrowhead.
We also loved the history of this cottage and found it very interesting that it was once owned by Bugsy Siegel. They even included a fun game where you can open a safe and obtain a prize. My wife and I loved that nice little touch.
Overall, we highly recommend this cottage. A great place that's not too expensive for a nice weekend getaway.

Cute and cozy cabin 🏠
We stayed for one night and enjoyed the coziness of the place. The place was clean and it had the feel of home away from home with all the amenities (internet, smart TV...). The owner was very friendly and immediately responded to our messages. We surely will visit again and recommend the place.

Would stay again and would recommend. We didn't spend much time at the location, but it's a perfect place to rest your head.

Great Experience!
I was really impressed all the way around with how the rental was managed, cleaned, etc. I took my 11 year old twins up to Arrowhead for a little Father/Kid fun... it was a success! They would love to go back.
