About this cottage rental
This is the lake cottage your grandmother visited during her childhood. Charming, original 1920 features. Big remodeled kitchen (new stove/oven) and big living room for family reunions and guests. Sleeps 9 in comfort; it has often slept 20. Porch overlooks Lake Wononscopomuc -- deepest lake in Connecticut. Close to train to New York and recreation facilities, in the heart of the New England independent school world and just right for the family's May and June, end of school and graduation weekends. Adjacent to Hotchkiss School and Interlaken Inn. Great fishing, hiking (including access to Appalachian Trail), antiques, golf, tennis, fall foliage, summer theater, dance and art. Superb porch sitting. Wood stove, fire-place, and electric heaters deal with extra-cool evenings or mornings. Outdoor gas grill supplements 2 indoor ovens and stove. WiFi, TV, phone.
Note that this is NOT a good place for wild or late night parties. It is located on a quiet lake not far from neighbors who appreciate the quiet beauty of the rural area. If you want to party loudly or despoil the lake, please go elsewhere. Also, it can be chilly in May and October!
Cultural Activities -- Near Lakeville, CT: Within a few miles of Lakeville, CT are features that include Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow, Tri-Arts Sharon Playhouse, Music Mountain, Norfolk Festival, Railroad Days, excellent restaurants, and lovely NW CT countryside. We are five miles from the Appalachian Trail and many other hiking options. Lake Wononscopomuc is cool and clean all summer. It drops to 180 ft within 250 yards of our shore. Kayak, canoes and a sailboat supplied.
Sports: Sports include all low speed water sports -- no water skiing. Fishing is excellent for Lake trout, bass, pickerel, perch, and catfish. Many other lakes streams and ponds in the area. The Hotchkiss School Golf course is about 300 yards away and other nearby and publicly available courses are in Sharon, Amenia and North Canaan. Tennis is available at town courts a mile away. Horse-back riding is nearby. Lots of hiking opportunities.

Have had a large family gathering here a few years in a row. Plenty of room for everyone and all associated activities. We were very happy to find the new stairs and dock, a huge improvement for water access.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at this timeless cottage. The simple but spacious and comfortable cottage evokes an era of long and unhurried summers, yet areas such as the kitchen are fully updated and ready to for everything from big group dinners to quick snacks. The setting could not be better: a generous and very-private yard, shielded by spreading trees, looks out to the lovely quiet lake. The screened porch, the dock, or the canoe are all perfect spots for enjoying long summer sunsets. And the trails, shops, country roads, and people of the area could not be more charming. We feel so grateful to have been able to enjoy this special experience!

Beautiful location, lovely cabin, great facilities. 5 star weekend getaway all around. Alden was very helpful leading up to our check in and very accommodating.

Despite the wet weather and mud, we enjoyed the rustic feel of the house and surrounding property.

We felt like we stepped back in time in this lake house! Although rustic, the house was clean, well equipped and functional. Our large group of 3 families had plenty of space and we especially loved the huge screened in porch. The waterfront out back was accessible, just had to take care stepping onto the floating dock; no sandy beach at the house however had a great time kayaking, paddleboarding, and canoeing (brought a couple of our own and used canoes on site, plenty of life jackets on site a well) across the lake to the town beach to enjoy sand, swimming and a large playground/playscape area for the littles. Thank you Alden for welcoming us to your home!

Great old, classic lakeside lodge. Quiet yet close to local towns. Wonderful, large kitchen for cooks and guests that extends out to a large, open living and dining room. Lovely screened porch looking out over the peaceful lake. Perfect for families and friends!

The house had several roomy seating areas icluding a large screened porch. The kitchen had lots of counter space and we enjoyed cooking in it. We did lots of swimming and canoeing. Had a very good week.

Large yard on lake. Has canoe, kayak, fire pit. Dock is unstable and dangerous because of the plank that you need to walk on.
House old and run down. One refrigerator is covered in rust. One garbage disposal doesn’t work. Dishwasher probably leaks. The bathrooms are old. Claw foot tubs are rusted on the outside. Has one shower. The walls are unfinished and dark. There was a leak in one bedroom ceiling and the screened porch. Furniture is old and some are uncomfortable.
This house would be outstanding because of the location but it needs a tremendous amount of work to make it functional and attractive.

This is a fantastic property for our large group. We can't wait to return next year. The partially shaded waterfront provided shade and privacy while still allowing pleasant views of the lake. The screened-in porch space was fantastic, and the common space in the house is great for a large group. The bedrooms are roomy and separated from the common space. The large kitchen with 2 sinks and 2 refrigerators made meal preparation easy for multiple cooks. The property was equipped with so many useful things. We especially enjoyed the multiple boats for cruising the refreshing and quiet lake. The area has easy access to services and other activities for a wonderful vacation visit.

This place was awesome. Nothing more to say besides “book it”.

Nice tucked away property, fit all 14 of us comfortably with some air mattresses, and great fishing all weekend.

Once we cleaned up after the resident squirrel and got the place warmed up, cuz we happened to get there on the first frosty night with little firewood…. The house was a great place for our family gathering. Good kitchen, good gathering space, comfy beds, lovely location on the lake.
Alden was helpful and accommodating remedying the firewood and squirrel situation.

Great property with a great location. We were attending a wedding at Interlaken Inn which is directly across the street. We needed more space than we could find at the Inn. This place was perfect, tons of room and everything you need. The owner was responsive with all communications. Highly suggest!

My family and I had a great time! Everything you could want was there. We enjoyed quiet morning kayaking, fishing, sandcastles on the beach, toys and games inside, dinners on the screened in porch, campfires at night. Just a wonderful place!

Reminded me of my grandparents lake side cottage - brought a well of pleasant memories

We enjoyed our family weekend retreat at Alden's lakehouse! There was plenty of space for our party of 13. Just make sure you count the actual bedspace available for your group as we brought additional inflatable mattresses. We spent a lot of time in the lake swimming and kayaking. Another kayak would be a welcomed addition. Water shoes are recommended if swimming from the shore. The only other recommendation would be to improve the accessway to the dock as it is just a plank of wood. We hope to be back again soon for another family renunion!

The house and yard are great, lake is beautiful. It would be nice if the water access was better.

This is a wonderful spot, exactly what we were looking for, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and lawn activities! The house was rustic, but very roomy for our big crowd. We loved the big kitchen with 2 sinks and 2 refrigerators! There are plenty of nice linens on the beds and in cupboards. Lots of space to spread out!
This is a nice quiet spot in a beautiful area of Connecticut! Very relaxing for all.

My girlfriends and I had a great weekend staying here! There was more than enough space for over 14 of us to sleep, and everything seemed to be clean and ready for us to get there when we checked in. The area was quiet and we were on one of the cleanest lakes I’ve ever seen. Gorgeous lake and a great place to spend with family and friends. My mom and I might even try to rent out the cabin to get the whole family together for the holidays in the future!

This house rustic, clean, private, accommodating for our large family and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The owner was very responsive and we felt very welcomed into his home. The fact that he allowed our dogs was a big plus! The kids caught fish off the dock, went canoeing as well as swimming in the pristine lake. The beach is small and a little rocky so advise you bring some swim shoes but the water was clean and lot's of opportunity to do some great snorkeling! We would certainly consider another vacation at this beautiful home!

Gorgeous lakefront views and excellent proximity to Hotchkiss School and NW Connecticut's scenic villages.

This is a rustic cabin on a beautiful lake in Connecticut. The cabin is an interesting built cabin and we enjoyed the screened in back porch alot. The kitchen is well equipped. There were also a lot of books and games available in the cabin.

Beautiful location. Old rustic type house - very cool.
Only issue was property should be sprayed for insects as we did find ticks on a few of us. Also be aware as warned in the listing of the poisin ivy as my son-in-law needed to go to the hospital for poisin ivy in his eye

Our family enjoyed our stay at The Lakehouse. The house has a lot of character. There was a mop in a closet that helped clear a couple of cobwebs We enjoyed having meals together. The outside was enjoyed by all - dry wood would be a plus both for the fireplace outside and the two fireplaces inside. Great location. Views are beautiful from the porches. We watched an eagle soar by. Alden was very responsive.

We loved the Lake House. It's a real gem - not many places like it left, sadly. It accommodated our crowd beautifully. The children had a ball, grown-ups were comfortable, cousins got re-acquainted....Thanks to the owner for sharing this wonderful place with people outside his own family. It's very well equipped - everything we needed and more. Hope to be able to come back.

Gorgeous property, rustic feel, everything you need. Not a high end home, but rather a perfect cabin in the woods on a beautiful lake. Excellent weekend escape

A large comfortable rustic cottage on a beautiful small lake well located in the Berkshires.

It's doesn't get more New England Lake House than this. A front porch with view over Lake Wonoscopomac where you can laze around with coffee and a book and catch sight of hawks and geese flying over the water, even a badger-like critter who scurried across the green lawn. Canoes right there for easy little rides around the lake. A fire pit for late night conversation and some star gazing. Every thing we needed was here. Thank you!
4.8
Nice area and great to have the screened porch. The house laid out well with lots of areas to spread out. Kitchen was large for everyone to help out with meals and the second sink & fridge a plus. Futon in the one bedroom was not very comfortable so a real mattress would have been a good addition. The dock could use some work but the lake was beautiful and peaceful. Thank you for the use of your family cottage.

Property was as advertised. It is a beautiful Lakeshore cabin. Read the description carefully or ask Alden to send his comprehensive guide to the property. The place isn't a luxury type house but it is beautiful well thought out and perfectly located.

The lake house was a delightful stay for our family, who ranged in ages from 1-73! We all enjoyed time in the beautiful lake and loved playing yard games and making s'mores in the fire pit! The dining room table was perfect for family meals. We would definitely visit the house again. Thank you!

Alden's house is charming and rambling (the photos don't quite do it justice). There is ample room for a large family/crew. The beds are firm and comfy. We appreciated the down pillows which many rentals forego. We spent our time either on the lake in one of the boats (we also rented stand-up paddleboards), or in the house. The common areas and porch are very airy and commodious and make for great inside living. We would definitely go back.

The house accommodated our large group with 3 generations and 3 dogs very nicely. We had a great time even though the weather was mostly awful, lots of rain! Very impressed that the water heater kept up with all of us. Great, private location. If any criticism it would be the term private "beach" is quite a stretch.
