Location. Car park very close. Clean and comfortable. Food was great. Staff in bar/restaurant were excellent.
No net curtains so open to the Tarka trail.

The hotel was in an ideal location for the quay and a trip to Lundy island. All the staff were very pleasant. We had a very nice meal and would recommend the restaurant..
The bed was large and comfortable
Although when booking there was limited availability and we booked a cosy room we expected it to be small. However the en suite was extremely small. The sink was cracked. The bath couldn't be used as the plug had no chain attached so there was no way of emptying. The shower was either very hot or very cold and it was difficult to regulate the temperature. The toilet roll holder was at a difficult height.Paint was peeling on the ceiling.
The room itself was not secure. The window was on to a central courtyard but no lock. A sash window could be opened from the outside. There was no safe. We also struggled to get the TV to work.

Breakfast/Location/ Staff
Although they were serving afternoon tea we couldn't get a sandwhich!
the cost of the breakfast £16.50 is way too much

The room, bed and the building generally were very good, and the staff were pleasant and helpful.
Marked 'facilities' because of a substandard breakfast on our first morning - we opted for the buffet and coffee, but there were no fresh bread rolls and limited fruit available to have with cereal; we requested two slices of toast each but only got 6 half slices of poor quality. Small things, but annoying. We avoided breakfast for the rest of our stay.
Also, in our first floor room overlooking the bridge, we had no net curtains, so felt rather exposed to people passing or on the building site over the road.

We were upgraded to a bigger room which was appreciated in very hot and humid conditions. Location is very convenient for exploring Bideford. Tasty and plentiful breakfast.
The room was nothing special for the price we paid, even after the upgrade. Bottled water in the room would have been nice.

Obviously the team are woking hard to manage for quality. It is an elegant building, with its own parking. I asked for a room with a view and it does look over the river and its bridge. The rooms were well presented, clean and with good provision. I needed to change rooms and this was done willingly, though with apology as I took a downgrade to a less choice room as it was quieter. I would prioritise room improvement in the less favoured rooms, work to partner the old railway line and make this a quieter room with a view.
When opened this hotel would have been a prime location which suffers now from being at a busy and noisy cross roads. Sadly this leaves choices between opening windows, with added noise and pollution, or being cooked and stifled. I would like the hotel to consider its environmental impact - use of electric fans and toilet cleaning products in particular and was that a noisy kitchen fan from breakfast time?

Food was good but portions too large so we ended up on the last night having a starter as a main course and then a dessert.
Breakfast was excellent and a good choice.
Room was comfortable but being west facing needed a venetian blind in the room to keep the afternoon sun out as it was very warm!
Location not great-noisy at night with traffic and passers by.

As always the staff were helpful accommodating and seemed pleased to see me. I will always stay here when I'm in Bideford - I like it very much indeed.
Im completely happy. Maybe mugs not cups in the rooms but its pretty much a first world problem!

location
my ground floor bedroom was literally next to a busy noisy main road , not good . 🙁I’m not sure why that room is even used for guests , hardly slept £95 is not good value , if one can’t sleep .

Location was good either easy access to the tien centre ... can't comment on breakfast as only required tea and coffee
The only Bar was in the Restaurant, no seating for those who may have just wanted to have a quiet drink, the alternative was to take drinks up to the Lounge area on the first floor and although comfy it did take you away from the hotel buzz ...

Good location and parking. Lovely inside. Offered upgraded room with coffee table and tub chairs which made evening comfortable and convivial. Would like to stay again.

Lovely hotel, large comfortable rooms, always assured of a happy smiley reception. Ill always stay here when I visit Bideford.
Breakfast changed from a buffet to a waitress service - great if you are on your own, but tricky if there are 15 people all wanting service. I'm not used to having to ask for Marmalade. I have stayed here multiple times, so I'm sure it was a glitch but please can we go back to buffet service in the refined restaurant and not in the noisy crowded and clacky bar.
That said I loved the Kingsley references.

Friendly helpful staff, tasty food, comfortable bed with quality bed linen.
The accommodation is quite dated and the drawers in my room were falling apart. The bathroom was clean, with a shower over the bath, but needs updating.
The furniture in my.room - it needed replacing.
