Some staff were amazing. The pool is good. Breakfast buffet was a good choice
The hotel is badly designed with dark colours and dim lighting so this contributes to poor/expensive maintenance - there is clearly long term underinvestment in facilities and staff. At launch it would have been impressive but years on it is not what anyone expects of a 3 star establishment. Many staff seem disengaged but they have little to be proud of. Over priced - you are paying for expensive infrastructure and maintenance not service. There are many 10 rating reviews without comments on Booking.com which are wholly inconsistent with reviews with comments -these distort the average score upwards. We were glad to move to a city centre hotel after two days.

Breakfast was OK for me but consider that not everyone like to eat like the locals, some scrambled eggs or boiled eggs are OK not only spicy food for breakfast.
I have no problem with food but the breakfast should have more options.

Spacious room and views were excellent.
Reception staff were excellent. Very understanding and helpful.
Breakfast was acceptable.
8 nights stay and rooms not cleaned/beds unmade.
- apart from the last 4 nights when I complained the beds were made, however , shower/sink/toilet not cleaned. I wiped the sink with cotton pads and toilet paper.
Housekeeping staff very unhelpful and unfriendly.
Towels not replaced. Went down to reception for these!
Poor room maintenance - hairdryer socket detached from wall, mould in shower, sink without plug, phone not working even though I reported it 3 times, shower door not closing, entrance door chain broken and left hanging (it appears that the door was smashed down as door was damaged).

Breakfast was good and most staff friendly
Front desk staff needs to be educated about at city and events in the area. Dirty and filthy -will not stay there ever again

I like the breakfast. The staff at the breakfast area were very nice and professional.
I can’t stand the incompetence of some of the front desk staff. The first night I arrived, the staff was unprofessional, placed us in a dirty room. I asked her to charge me for extended days because I couldn’t do it through Booking. com. She gave me every excuse why I couldn’t do so. I couldn’t pay that night. The next day I met a wonderful receptionist and she made the changes for me and was able to accept the payment but again I couldn’t pay for the amount of days I needed. It turned into a disaster.

Overall it was good, room was not ready when I arrived, then the AC in the room was not working so I had to change room. Once I got the new room, everything was good.
Room was not ready when I arrived at 4pm, AC in the first room was not working.

There aren't many large hotels in Georgetown, and this is one of the most well known, so was easy to get a taxi to / from the airport (I came into Ogle and left via Cheddi Jagan). The rooms were fairly large and well presented, although it was strange to have a wholly glass walled shower in the middle of the room, with only a thin strip of clouded glass. Although the selection for breakfast was not large, it was different every day and included more local dishes. It was nice to eat in the morning, and drink in the evening, by the large pool.
The hotel compound itself felt safe (not least because there are armed guards around the entrance to the onsite casino). However, I was warned that the surrounding area is dangerous. I walked to the local mall (5 mins) in daylight, and although I experienced several racist remarks made in my direction (understanding a little Spanish), I was not unduly concerned. However, I would not have felt safe doing the same short walk after dark. The hotel is a long way from the centre of Georgetown, so taxis are essential to get around the city. The staff were polite and mostly helpful, but seemed unwilling to assist when it came to getting hold of local currency, which you can only do once you're in Guyana. There is an onsite bank, but they were unwilling to change any currency other than USD, which surprised me. So make sure you come with sufficient USD.
