Lovely traditional stone house in a tiny, quiet village. The well equipped and cozy apartment had plenty of room for us (three people). Beautiful mountain view from the terrace. Breakfast at the nearby taverna where the very friendly owners were always available to answer questions etc.
The village is very small, no shops, no cash machine, two small tavernas. But also almost no tourists- which is why we chose it. :) Nearest larger village is about 10min drive away.

It's in a lovely traditional village where they have a couple of caves and some lovely surroundings . The home is made of stone with a fire place, air conditioner and a kitchen. The highlight of the area was Lotus shop, a nice place with plenty of things with historical value.
During our stay there was no Wi-Fi reportedly due to the weather. So a good place to truly fall under the radar.

Room an excellent sixe, bed and bedside tables, seating area and table, dining table and chairs, wardrobe and dressing table, fridge, small cooker. Our room had a fireplace you could roast an ox in! Nice enclosed courtyard at the back and stairs up to a roof balcony with nicw view of the village. Quiet village on walking trails.
Could have had a better collection of cutlery, some tea/coffee mugs, glaases for wine. Communication was a bit difficult as the phone number on booking.com is for a kafeneion that is closed during the day.

Very nice place, great food at the restaurant

Nice breakfast
Dark room, location is incorrect on the map, hard to communicate with the owner.

Very nice House, nice courtyards. Lovely architecture.
We would clearly recommend this house for example for a family as it contains three apartments with small separate bathrooms each. But bring some kitchen equipment with you.
Nothing has been invested in dishes, glasses, cutlery. We had to go to the cafenion to get enough coffee cups, knifes and even the promised coffee maker. Chairs in the small courtyard are metal, stylish and very robust. Chairs in the large courtyard were plastic and all broken. One of the rooms could not be locked, neither the front door to the courtyard.
Communication was a bit difficult as no English was spoken, but translation apps and Fotos did the job.

Amazing place, very particolar, quite and off Road from the biggest cities. We got there very tired from a long trip and Maria was the sweetest, welcomed us in the best way, served amazing food in her cafè which I recommand as well, made everything comfortable for us. We had a great sleep and enjoyed a lot the experience. The Village Is very small and perfect for a chilled evening.

I loved where the house was located in a traditional Village. The owner was lovely and welcoming.
The fridge didn’t work. We were staying for one night so it didn’t really matter

Great host and the way he treated us was just amazing. A traditional drink "raki" was wating for our group. And the house creates an atmosphere of the time gone by. The nearby tavern and an old olive factory are the places where you can enjoy your time with very friendly local people.

Great location to get away from it all. Maria and her family are great hosts and made us feel very comfortable and welcome. The room was nice and cool and very spacey. Close by Maria and her family have a cafe/restaurant and a cool little mini bar, the bar is very chilled out and great after a long day on the road. Thank you for a wonderful stay. I’d love to come back to Vafes again. You feel connected to nature here.
Nothing.

This little place up in the foothills of the White Mountains was delightful. The host Maria was especially friendly and helpful and it was clearly a family run establishment including the little cafe. The village is a proper Cretan place, not aimed at tourism and the house was an old building with a little balcony and character. It was a lovely place to stop for the night on arrival and before heading over the mountains. We accidentally took our key on to Sfakia and messaged them to apologise. They couldn't have been kinder. We dropped it off on our way back. Lovely people!
If you have mobility problems be warned that the staircase inside is very steep. It was fine for us though. The aircon downstairs worked fine, but we couldn't get the one in the bedroom to go on.

Everything was great except the pillows were hard!

Aesthetically lovely, very quiet town..nice walk up the gorgue, nice staff
Very hot..need to use the Aircon almost all the time inside...balcony directly exposed to sunlight almost all day...fridge with no room to breathe..not enough plugs for kitchen/fridge so one of the two should be disconnected to use the other...

Vafes traditional house was the highlight of our roadtrip around the island. The house had the outdated appeal of the truly authentic, while being well agenced for a family stay. The place is bigger than the pictures may let us think, and the terrasse's perfect for a late afternoon glass of wine, before retreating to the cooler interior. Maria, the owner was extremely accomodating and always helpful. Altogether, we really enjoyed our stay there.
