The person at the front door is a very helpful and nice.
The noise was awful. Constant all day and night. Very dirty and small bathroom.
The room had a weird smell.

Friendly people. Nice atmosphere.
Dark area. Our room had no window. Toilet and showers were not really clean!

The location was perfect, close to the beach and all the restaurants.
It’s not a “surf hostel” what so ever. There is no music, the bar was a building site (but no one was working on it). There was a family with many kids staying there during my whole stay at least, they were at the hostel all days long. There was kids toys laying around, small toys, big toy cars, the kids were running around making noice and playing.
I came here to get a surf vibe with other backpackers. This is the first hostel in the world for me where a family with kids is staying. Maybe not a place for kids? A surf hostel meant for a young crowd?
Where was the music? the social events? the bar? Avoid this place and find a more fun place where they don’t have kids. (Nothing wrong with kids, but not what I came here for)
The staff was saying “it’s low season”. But I met backpackers staying at other hostels with a lot of people and they said their hostel was fun and had a vibe. So “low season” argument is just an excuse.
Decide what you want to be - a family friendly place or a young fun hostel. It’s impossible to be both at the same time.

Excellent position.
No windows in bedroom and bathroom.

The location is in the best spot in town! Right on the main road so lots of places to eat, markets less than 3 minutes away, and less than 4 minutes to the best spots on the beach, and both the best clubs were neighbors to the hostel! (Directly across the street as well as in the beside ally. The hostel was very accommodating; kitchens with full use at any time, no curfew on the building, multiple showers and toilets, discount at neighboring restaurant, an amazing common area. . Would recommend this hostel to anyone!
The one and only con was that on the weekends you could here the bass from the clubs playing late into the night. If you are a light sleeper maybe its not the best place for you, but overall I found the hot sun made it easy to just fall asleep.
Not a con, but the hostel location is inside two open door restaurants. There is a walkway between these two restaurants that leads to a gate and right there is the front desk. It wasn't posted anywhere so it took us a few minutes to find. Though its not down a sketchy ally, its just subtly tucked away.

Decent hostel with friendly staff, and with Tamarindos current prices one of the cheapest options in town.
The coffee wasn't very great but its free so can't really complain. Other than that the biggest deficit was the cleanliness of the bathroom. Even after it had been ""cleaned" it was still not clean.
8.0
Friendly staff, comfortable beds, in the center of Tamarindo, enough space to chill.
Clean in the morning, but dirty at the end of the day. Maybe would need more cleaning staff. Also, need more things to cook in the kitchen (vegetables knifes, scissors, strainors for pastas for example).

The location was very central to the beach, shops and restaurants. The staff were friendly.
The hostel was dirty, there were cockroaches, ants and insects in the room and shared communal space. The shared toilet and shower room was dirty and there was no hot water. The room smelt damp and the bed/pillows were uncomfortable. The gate key can’t be used to unlock the door from the outside, but was never told and had to try and figure out how to open it from the inside to get in to the hostel in the middle of the night. It was way too overpriced for what you were getting.

Staff were really friendly and helpful
Shared washroom were not great - they were in bad condition, burnt out lights, hot water was not working
rooms were not fully clean

Location is perfect, right near the beach and center of town.
Air con is always a bonus.
Cleaning lady was friendly and toilets were kept generally clean.
Painting supplies were a nice touch
I should start by saying it's basic for young hostel goers, I've stayed (and worked in hostels) and this one was bad.
Facilities were bad, fans in bathroom clogged with dust and mould, toilets too small to manoeuvre, showers barely worked if anyone else was using, if you were the only user it still sprayed everywhere except on you. Hardly any hot water.
Kitchen was near the bedrooms and if someone was cooking you better shut your door or it would stink. Kitchen also too small and in a bad shape of cleanliness.
Window was surrounded by mould in the room from air con leaking.
Window looked out on to a allyway with hardly any natural light in the room even mid day.
Bed was comfy but pillows felt like someone rolled t-shirts inside a pillowcase, not comfy.
Pretty certain there were bed bugs too as saw a red critter one night. Club next door till 2am every night so better bring ear plugs.
Communal area could be good but wasn't where they are refinishing their resturante next door it's dirty messy and used as storage space, no communal spirit.
Too expensive a place to be used just to store our bags, as we didn't wanna hang around there at all.
Needs some love and care.

Free coffee and the other guests. The location was also good
The bathrooms were not clean and broken. You couldn’t flush or lock the door.
General areas were dirty and garbage everywhere. Old furniture and not like the pictures. Everyday, something new broke.
Very small rooms, it said 25 square meters but it was only 9. Ants in the room.
Unstable bed.

Bed was comfy & AC came on at some point
No running water during my stay, had to have a shower in a different hostel I walked into. Ants everywhere and not a vibe there, even people in my room didn't speak

Super nice located for the beach and some nice restaurants, friendly, helpful staff
The Toilette, especially the bins next to it, were extremely unhygienic. The shared kitchen didn't seem super clean, too. The chill area outside was nice but quite untidy.

Location was amazing! Really central from everywhere you need to be. 5 min from the beach, 2 in from the bars and restaurants are everywhere around. Besides that, the hostel has activities every night where you can sign up for. You can meet a lot of other travelers too!

Nice staff, very helpful
Unfortunately very dirty and musty smell in the room. Ants in the shower. The location is very central, but very noisy in the evening.
5.0
Low price compared to other accomodations in Tamarindo.
Nobody seems to care about the facilities. This place needs some serious maintenance. How hard can it be to replace the (broken) door handle of the toilet? The ‘staff’ does not seem to feel responsible at all.

Very central. Close to everything in Tamarindo. the staff is always ready to help with our questions.

Location
Out of 4 bathroom stalls only one seemed to be in working order and there was toilet paper overflowing onto the ground by the evening time every night. The common area was weathered and dirty, smelled like sewage/old food. Tables in this area were not wiped down. The bar was not open and was emptied out, nothing was there. Seemed to not be in working order for a long time. The kitchen area was extremely dirty and counters not wiped down, and again smelled. The shared fridge had about an inch of stale water in it. The doors to the rooms automatically lock behind you and they only offer one key, do not keep a spare on the property. My friend and I both left the room to use the bathroom at the same time and forgot our key, we were locked out. They told us the spare was in the office and they couldn't get it until 8am when the manager arrived. This was at 11pm. They told us we just have to sleep outside because they were fully booked. The lady told me I was lucky she there yet we were still out of a room. We were offered no refund and I had paid in cash naively so I cant dispute it with the bank. She did provide us with blankets to sleep outside for 80 dollars a night 😂😂. Now looking back it was comically bad but not in the moment. Only stay here if you have no standards or it's for free. For 30 dollars more we stayed at Hotel Villa Amarillo down the road the following night which was lovely. I recommend literally any other hotel/hostel. Oh also I woke up to, once we were finally able to get into our room to nap, the window air conditioner leaking water all over my bed and luggage. It was really a whole experience staying here 😂.

amazing location with a very friendly staff
bathrooms could use a bit more cleaning

Amazing hostel for young people and solo travellers, the staff are super friendly and its in the centre about a 2 min walk from all the main bars. As two girls, we felt very safe and welcomed here. We were given a 4 bed room at the last minute for a very good price. The staff helped us book our bus tickets when we were unsure about how to get to our next destination. Would definitely reccommend!
The shared kitchen was a bit small and in an odd location. Often only one of the toilets was available, the others were out of order.

location
too dirty
bath rooms and kitchens are broken and not cleaned.

Communal showers without doors! depressing toilets. The window to our room opened onto reception which was a bit strange. The beds were uncomfortable and pillows were awful. I’d pay maximum 20 dollars a night for the private room.
3.0
I like that our place was so close to the beach and in the heart of town
there was noise at all times of day, if you want to sleep this is not the place for that. the kitchen was always a mess no one who stayed in the hostel cleaned up after themselves so the kitchen was basically unusable. When you tell the other people staying in the hostel to turn it down they turn it up. no one cares, there’s no rules. the bathroom have no fan and are always dirty as well. one stall I was in had no toilet paper. it says the rooms are soundproof and that’s a lie. they’re not one but soundproof. also the other lady who worked during the day I guess another manager. she was super rude and not helpful. I would not stay here again. would not recommend. it’s just a dirty place. and the showers don get me started. they’re not even in a private stall all you get is a dirty curtain. and half the showers are constantly leaking and wasting water.

great location and helpful staff.
The shower faucets were broken and very difficult to adjust. otherwise I think they can increase value just by cleaning up a little (matching sheets, lighter wall colours can create a more spacious feel in the otherwise tiny rooms), fixing broken tiles, faucets etc.

Incredible location with cold A/C in the private room. Kitchen was small but had everything you needed. Surprisingly quiet despite being in the centre - also a quiet atmosphere. Lots of toilets and showers.
Tiny room with a double bed and bunk bed - no way 4 people would fit with all of their luggage! We barely fit with just two backpacks. No coffee in the morning despite it being advertised.
