Lovely stay. Property very well appointed and ideally located in the magnificent Suffolk countryside. Wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend.

Shearer's cottage has proved to be the perfect base, it was so comfortable, particularly the beds.
And there was everything we could need to cater for ourselves.
The copses and garden that surround are filled with birdsong too. So utter bliss.

We loved the tranquil pace and quiet, our 2 young sons had so much outdoor fun on the swings and trampoline

Lovely spot near Sutton Hoo, which we visited. Helen is an experienced host, who welcomed us but let us get on with our holiday. Nearby if there was a problem. Cottage was warm and inviting. Kitchen well equipped. All very good and we would be happy to come again if we were in that area! Thank you. Barbara, John and Carolyn 3 oldies

Clean and comfy well stocked kitchen and eating places nearby. Though it was a bit of a walk three quarters of a mile about. The cottage was warm and welcoming so we will be back

Excellent place to recharge your batteries.

The property was spacious and clean. The rooms were large and comfortable. The two bedrooms were warm and the kitchen was modern. The living room had two large sofa’s and a lovely round dining table. It was a nice touch to have wine and milk waiting for us when we arrived. The owner also introduced herself during our visit which was nice. The location was excellent, very quiet but also near to Sutton Hoo and the pleasant village of Melton. I highly recommend this property.

Very comfortable and cosy property to stay in. Well equipped and comfortable beds. Nice little enclosed area outside for the dog and walks directly from the property. We would definitely stay here again if visiting this area again.

The cottage is set in peaceful wooded location, it has lots of space and an enclosed outside area which was perfect for our pup. There is lots near by such as a gastro pub, unruly pig, lots of lovely walks, nearby fishing and golf too. Perfect for a UK get away so much so we have visted twice in 3 months and look forward to visiting again soon.

Our second visit to this comfortable bungalow in a good location. My sister and I brought our mother for a short break. Mum is not very mobile but she managed very well; we just had to help her get in and out over the threshold bar.
We enjoyed meals at the Wilford Bridge Inn, just down the road, and at The Dolphin at Thorpeness. Aldeburgh is pretty seaside town, if you like smoked fish or seafood, the kiosks on the seafront are worth a visit.

Lovely time, as before, clean and tidy with nice complementary bottle of wine and milk
Would have been nice if the small garden lawn had been mowed as on presentation looks nice plus makes it easier with having small dogs to clear up after

Helen is friendly, welcoming and helpful!
The cottage is perfectly situated for those that like long dog walks, offering both costal and forest paths nearby. We have stayed here twice now, and will be returning next year

Super house, comfortable and well-equipped. Is very near a main road so traffic noise a bit loud, especially with windows open.

Had a lovely stay at Shearers cottage, great location and smooth check in. Thank you Helen for checking in on us and for the wonderful welcome of a bottle of wine and milk in the fridge on arrival. Definitely recommend to friends and family. Thanks again.

We liked the property and the location so much, we would happily live there. We will definitely be going back.

Nice & well equipped cottage, plenty of storage, & a complementary bottle of milk & wine on arrival.

Really good location and perfect cottage with everything you need .

Positives are property is in a great location, walkable to Sutton Hoo & near Woodbridge. Unfortunately the property needs some TLC & attention. Namely: the shower cubicles & screens are caked in limescale deposits looking awful,we know this is a hard water area as we live in East Anglia, but this build up has just been left & left,a bottle of white vinegar & a scrub would work wonders once a month! The shower head has small squirts of water yet again choked up with limescale they need descaling urgently! Also mould growing at the back of the broken tap in the “poppy” bedroom, obviously not cleaned for a long time!
The outside area around the side entrance & the small seating area are neglected and tatty, a sweep up of all the dead leaves from autumn (it is May) & weeding of the patio area and beds would be so easy and make such a difference, lack of care. The garden furniture was shabby, stained & uncomfortable. The peace of the area and enjoying the sunny weather by sitting outside was marred for us by the owner digging big holes in the garden with a bulldozer most of Saturday and Sunday very irritating & annoying. The cottage is infested with ants, we put our food in a kitchen cupboard but found it completely infested with ants & had to throw it all away.A health hazard, there is ant powder in the cupboard so the owner must be aware but ant powder should not be used in food prep areas or near pets and children. Beds are comfy & clean, smells damp we bought scented candles

Our 5th visit and still as good as the first time. Great location and so much to do on the doorstep. Lovely comfortable cottage.

The property was lovely - Walking distance of Sutton Hoo, although we drove so we could leave our dog in the car for some of the time. The cottage had everything we needed and more. Thank you Helen, we had the best time.

Lovely lounge dining kitchen space, everything you could possibly need! Great to have 2 ensuite bedrooms, ample parking. Good position/location.

A very comfortable and nicely laid out barn, warm and clean with everything needed for a pleasant stay. The location is quiet and peaceful which is what we wanted this weekend, so it was perfect for us and we would be happy to recommend it as an ideal holiday home. Helen checked in on us to make sure all was well and we appreciated the wine and milk left for us. So thank you for a good stay.

Warm, cosy & comfortable. A really enjoyable short break for us and our two little sausage dogs. Beautiful walks in a stunning part of the country.

A lovely conversion

Good communication with host Helen throughout our stay but not intrusive.
Lovely treelined area to walk out to in the morning and evening for alfresco dining.
Melton train station a 5 minutes drive or 15 minute walk away, bus stop on main road, Sutton Hoo national trust woodlands just a few minutes walk from Shearers cottage.
Deben Riverwalk adjacent to Melton train station and it is a wonderful walk from here to Woodbridge quay and town.
The pictures of Shearers cottage are true to form with just the outside a different colour now.
Some road noise so very light sleepers may wish to take earplugs just in case but it doesn't detract from the countryside feel.
We had a very comfortable and relaxing stay, the heating worked very well.
Very good value for money.
We will definitely be booking again.

Very comfortable and relaxing. Easy access to local amenities. Ideal for our dogs.

This is a great cottage to stay for families. It has plenty of space inside and outside for young children. The owners are nearby and run the campsite nearby. The tv with Netflix was a great bonus. There are some great beaches nearby to visit as well as Sutton Hoo on the door step.

Shearers Cottage
The cottage was clean, very spacious, had a secure garden for the dogs and was in a perfect location out of town but close to local amenities. Everything we required was included, we would certainly recommend and will also visit again. Thank you.

Four nights in Sutton Hoo
We stayed in Shearers cottage in Sutton Hoo on a four day break with our dog.
The cottage was as described, it was clean, comfortable and had everything that we needed. It is located right next to the historical Sutton Hoo site and there are plenty of walks in the area which suited our needs.
We would definitely consider using this property again.

A lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings
We had a lovely time in Sutton Hoo. The cottage was ideal for us and our 2 dogs who loved the walks through the forests and a trip to shingle street beach. Thank you Helen for letting us stay in your lovely cottage. We will definitely be back soon.

Lovely cottage. Spacious rooms with beautiful en suite bedrooms. Kitchen fully equipped with a dishwasher too. Literally on the service road up to Sutton Hoo. Lucky enough to be there for the Staffordshire Hoard exhibition. Which was amazing. Perfect for us as we’re all National Trust members. Sutton Hoo is stunning with beautiful pinewoods/river walks and also the house and mounds. We will definitely be back. Thank you
