This self-catering 4 bedroom apartment is part of an 18th century building, perfect for a family or a large group of friends. Comfortable and bright, blue and gold are possibly the bestwords to describe the breathtaking views from the apartment windows: intensely blue during the day and melting gold in the early morning and at sunset. The apartment is situated on a hill at the heart of old Alfama near to metro and the famous Tram 28.
DESCRIPTION
Spacious and comfortable the apartment includes 2 bedrooms with river views, 1 towards a quiet alley and a smaller one with no windows. The living/dining room also benefit from the beautiful river light as well as from views of cruise ships passing by. On weekends you are likely to see many sailing boats making the most of Lisbon’s strong breeze. With high ceilings (3,30 m) its interiors exude good vibes. The turquoise rugs sometimes match the color of the sky reflected on the river.
NEIGHBORHOOD
Next to national monuments such as Se Cathedral, São Jorge Castle or Panteão Nacional, you are 4 minutes away from the famous 28 tram, which crosses some of Lisbon’s best historical quarters, but also from the grandiose Praça do Comércio with its symmetrical archways and many wine bars. On summer nights, light and sound performances are frequent here, a good way to enjoy the night’s freshness with a glass of wine in your hand.
However, if you stay in Alfama you will find a different world: narrow alleyways and small squares where you can eat deliciously fresh sardines, boiled potatoes and grilled peppers together with much sangria (or wine). Alfama is also representative of Lisbon Fado (as there is another type of Fado in Coimbra). It can be heard and experienced (because it is an unforgettable experience) in numerous restaurants and taverns, but only at night. Alfama people are also celebrated for being friendly.
The apartment is walking distance from many famous sites: 5 min from Fado Museum,Panteão Nacional (where the Portuguese royal family and prestigious Portuguese are buried) and São Vicente de Fora convent; 10 min from São Jorge Castle and Se Cathedral; 15 min from Praça do Comércio and downtown Rossio square; 25 min from Avenida da Liberdade, the aristocratic Chiado and the alternative Bairro Alto quarters. Of course, you will also have to explore Belém – the Museum quarter. So please take a bus or a tram and spend some time there. Loads to see in Belém!
Nearby, less than a 5 min walk, runs the ultra-famous 28 tram line which crosses some of the best historical quarters, as well as Santa Apolónia tube and train station which links Lisbon to the country’s North and South. The metro network reaches a good part of Lisbon, including the airport. Metro and buses can take you to Cais do Sodré train station which serves the beautiful Cascais and Estoril summer resorts, or to Rossio train station from where you can reach Lord Byron’s beloved village of Sintra.

- check-in: from 4 pm / check-out: from 8 to 11 am. There is no problem in arriving late; however please note that after 10 pm there will be a late check-in fee*. We’ll try to make it as flexible as possible as we want our guests to feel relaxed and happy (it depends mainly on whether it interferes with other reservations or not).
- Additionally, upon check-in or departure, we are happy to keep your luggage in our office for a few hours if possible.

Nice, central apartment. Host attention is superb. Loved the neighborhood. Nice view. During our stay it was cold, so we didn’t air conditioning, but wonder how it plays during the summer when it’s hot and the apartment has no air conditioning. Specially, in one of the rooms that has no windows. Although, we didn’t minded, Be aware that it’s an old neighborhood and building. Floors are uneven and there is no elevator. You have to go up 3 floors with suitcases.

This apartment was beautiful for my family’s Lisbon vacation. There was enough space for everyone, and plenty of bathrooms as well which allowed multiple adults to shower and get ready at the same time. The layout took some getting used to, but being in the master bedroom apart from our kids was actually a blessing! We were worried about no air conditioning, which is normal for the area, but the fans did an amazing job. With all windows open we didn’t even need the fans at times because the breeze coming off the water was perfect. There isn’t an elevator so 3 flights of stairs might be tough if you have a lot of luggage, but overall the apartment was worth it.

Good apartment which has a great location. Having three bathrooms for 8 people in total is very handy. Kitchen area is okay but shouldn’t expect to be able to cook fancy meals, bit to basic for that.
Due to the location of the appartement the rooms at the street side (ocean side) are relatively warmer than the room at the other side, which can be an issue since there’s only a fan and no AC.

We had THE BEST time in Alfama at this property. Carlos was superb and just, so very lovely at ever interaction. He gave us so many recommendations and all of them were spot on perfect. I would say this property isn’t the best for families with young children. There are A TON of stairs leading up to the apartment and a bit of noise in the evening hours given it’s very central location. We sort of embraced it and kind of enjoyed it a little lol. There are close to 10 restaurants within very very short walking distance out the front door - the area is SO romantic at night and you can walk safely around the winding streets and stumble into some authentic fado and have your breath taken away. The train station is very very close and houses a supermarket which made exploring Lisbon and getting necessities super easy and convenient. I can’t say enough how much we enjoyed our stay at this property. There was no AC but you can leave the windows open all night for the most amazing cool breeze that flows all through the apartment. The host was very responsive when we asked for a fan for the room with no windows and brought one the very next morning.
Two (very) small drawbacks:
1. The fridge is very small - we ate out more (and cheaply) in the area but if this is not in your plan or in your budget just be aware.
2. The property is situated perfectly, but on a hill. The walk home from the train station is a workout - and then there’s 4 flights of stairs at the end of it.

Needs updating. The pictures do not represent what the unit looks like in person. Entry had dead cockroaches on the floor the entire time we were there. Furniture uncomfortable and nothing was in the best shape. Location was good for getting around the city. We had to carry our garbage out before we left which isn’t a big deal, except it was down 4 flights of precarious stairs.

Fun and convenient
Thank you for making the check in process so smooth and welcoming! Thanks for all the extras like coffee!!!! and all the other kitchen extras! Everything was great. It was fun to be able to just walk downstairs and see life on the streets, with many restaurants and small grocery stores. My only complaint is that I don’t have enough room in luggage for all the souvenirs to bring home!

Die Wohnung war sauber, hell und mitten im Alfama Viertel. Direkt neben dem Haus gab es eine fantastische Frühstücksbar und bis zur Metro waren es keine 5 Minuten. Tolle Aussicht auf den Tejo.

Perfect stay at Lisbon.
The apartment is perfectly situated in the Afalma quarter. Public transports (Santa Apolonia) are nearby and it is perfectly possible to walk to the centre of Lisbon. The arrival and welcom at the apartment were very good. We recieved a lot of information from Carlos. The apartment is well equiped for a stay at Lisbon with 8 people!

Not for Families
Perhaps this 3rd floor walk up apartment that’s a little warren of rooms with very small common space, half fridge, no place to put clothes, and no towel racks would be great for a group of 20-somethings on a party weekend. For a family with 3 children under 5 it was a nightmare. The Alfama is an extraordinary neighborhood of winding alleyways and street parties/food. But the smell of cigarettes and the partying ‘til 1 am is not conducive to sleeping.
Knowing the size of our party and that we had small children, I would have hoped that Heart and Soul would be forthright about the shortcomings of the apartment and warned us that this wasn’t an appropriate space.
When I woke up in the morning and thought about the effort to get an espresso for the adults and some simple groceries for the children, I realized that we would not be able to spend a week at Remedios III.
We have traveled all over Spain and Portugal with the children and in every VRBO apartment we rented the owners were clear about what life would be like for a family with small children. We have been in walk up apartments, homes, and hotels - this was the worst stop on our adventure.

Lovely, clean apartment in great location.
The property is great for a large group and 7 of us stayed here very comfortablely. The apartment has beautiful old features and is nicely decorated (pictures are as on the website). It was clean had all the amenities we required for our stay.
We enjoyed the location of the apartment within the gorgeous little streets and alleys of Alfama. Would stay here again!

Nice space in the heart of Lisbon
We enjoyed this roomy apartment in the heart of Alfambra. Great morning views of the river and a close walk to everything we wanted to do during our short stay. Daniel and the staff made check in easy and informative and quickly responded to a couple of minor issues. Grandma and Grandpa got their exercise on the steps from the front door to the apartment but that’s Lisbon. Thanks for hosting.

Beautiful space, perfect for our family trip!
The property was beautiful and clean, with lots of natural light and just as described. Waking up and seeing the ships by the harbour was lovely and made for a perfect setting for our first family trip to Lisbon. The location is fantastic— a short walk to the Sta. Apolonia station, charming coffee shops and authentic restaurants. The street it is on is full of life and such a dream to stroll through. The hosts were warm, welcoming and indeed, like your friends in the city. They were very helpful and approachable! Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will always have fond memories of this stunning house in Rua dos Remedios! Obrigadas, we hope to be back in Lisbon again.

Since the first contact all the people from Local Traveling were super nice and willing to answer my many questions. They organized the apartment with the number and type of beds we needed and even had a crib and high chair. They e-mailed me daily to check if we needed something else.
The apartment is very well located in Alfama where we loved the up and down of the streets. Close to the metro station where there is a bigger supermarket( and lots of mini markets in the area). Cozy and comfortable. We were a party of ten people and it was great to have 3 bathrooms.
I researched a lot and I can say I was very happy for choosing this one.

If your heart is set on staying in Alfama, this is the place for you
We were a large family (7 adults and two kids) and stayed comfortably at this place. The check-in was super easy. Even though we got there a few hours early they kept our luggage for us and upon check-in brought them to the apartment (which is about 50 steps or so away from the office). There is no elevator in the building but we were able to keep the stroller in the office whenever we wanted which was a great help.
The place is clean, big and well equipped. It looks better than the pictures and all information is accurate. The room with no window is not the best place to sleep in summer time( not good circulation) but is manageable with a fan.
You could stroll out of your place to many good fado places, and some good cozy restaurants. If you are looking to stay in Alfama, this is the place for you.
What makes this place superb and memorable is Fatima and her colleagues. Not only they are well-organized and professional but they are super kind, and helpful and they went above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one. They even gave my mom a birthday present and mailed me an item I had left behind.
