Sense of history.
Location is perfect for cruising around the wineries and despite being on the main road, wasn't as noisy as expected.
Staff were attentive, enthusiastic and helpful.
Good selection of most local wines. The young barman had a reasonable knowledge of them.
The guy at checkout listened with what appeared to be genuine interest when I responded to his question about how our stay was and took notes.
A variety of spaces, including private hideaways away from the main bars. A couple of working, wood fireplaces, as opposed to gas. Always more memorable.
We had the good old reliable parmie and a prawn linguine for dinner. Very nice.
However the oysters Kilpatrick were under cooked, luke warm. Edible but not memorable. Couldn't be bothered sending them back but the morning manager did apologise and said I should have.
Breakfast, including local yoghurt (I presume) and 2 varieties of compote, rhubarb and mixed berries, were lovely.
Ran out of hot water. Back on though, after dinner. Understandable however, for an heritage building.
Bar fridge very noisy, had to turn it off to sleep.
The worst bed we'd slept on in a long time. In a word, shocking. I would've rated it higher, if not for the bed. Had a sore back for a day afterwards.
In hindsight, it would have been better sleeping on the floor.
Most hotels in my experience get away with average beds because they get hard ones, which also last longer. This mattress could've been from 1888, soft and lumpy, the kind you roll into the middle of.LOL.
Only one tiny bin in the bathroom.
Wasn't expecting to be woken at 7 by the vacuum cleaner down stairs, although I was glad to get out of the bed.
There was no sign indicating the entrance of the off street parking visable from the road.

Warm and Cosy welcome.

It had a private outdoor swimming pool! if only we’d known, we would have brought our bathers. It also has a wood fire, which would be great for colder times. Quality coffee bags and lovely shortbread biscuits. We were also given a complimentary breakfast, which we did not expect.
Checking in was problematic. The rooms were not ready at 2 pm so we had to wait 15 minutes. This was the only issue - everything else was great.

Tired and needed some refurbishment

Food was nice
There was mould on the tiles in the shower and it was extremely expensive for what it was, you also had to plug the jug in to a power point on the floor

Pre-dinner drinks, the dinner meal and post dinner pool and drinks.
Waiting an hour for the breakfast room to open, although we (5 couples) sympathised with the Manager's unintentional sleep-in.

Building and room was well maintained while keeping the historic vibe. Staff were friendly and professional. Also the inclusion of continental breakfast with the room was a nice surprise and made our stay very convenient.

Nice room, very welcoming staff, great price
Obviously being a pub downstairs noise until close around 11pm, so if you want an early night just something to think about.

Dinner though slow in arriving was exceptional and tasty. Staff throughout our stay were fabulous.

We stayed in the Manager's House attached to the hotel. Fantastic 60's style house with 4 bedrooms, cooking facilities, lounge, pool etc. We ordered food from hotel which they delivered. Great staff.
The house really needs updating. Vines over the skylights, cracked tiles in bathrooms. Video broken. Unfortunately it is run down but could be bought back. Good space for 3 or 4 couples.
