Nearby historic Bolton Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was held for a time, offers an interesting day out. The wider Aysgarth area offered inspiration for JM Turner who painted landscapes here and still serves today inspiration to the many landscape artists attracted to the area each year.
For the more active, the local roads are excellent for the keen cyclist forming part of the annual Tour de Yorkshire through Wensleydale – with many routes of different levels of challenge cutting through the beautiful Yorkshire Dales villages and countryside. There is superb fishing available, the River Aire, River Wharf and in particular the River Ure are renowned for the stocks of grayling, trout and their spectacular river banks. There is a variety of horse riding experiences offered at the nearby Wensleydale Equestrian in Bainbridge and at other centres in the Yorkshire Dales. Shop 100 yards, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Beautiful place, great location
I didn't get emails from the owner, even though she said she sent me them, so apparently didn't get a Form to fill in. This was pointed out to me by Brian. A very pleasant guy.
Dissappointed we didn't get welcome back, when asked joe, she replied I was a 'short stay' but in the guest book, guests on short stays did get welcome pack.
But I got some lovely local bread from The Station, where we went the cinema.
Would visit again

A great bolthole away from it all.
A great bolthole away from it all. The location is superb for walkers- and to able to walk miles from the front door is priceless. The cottage has everything you need and is very comfortable. Jo and Barry are very friendly hosts and happy to help if needed... they recommended a GREAT deli called Campbells in Leyburn for our groceries. The Dales is fantastic for quality produce so basically fab walks followed by fab food. Will return!

We had a wonderful stay at The Owlery in Aysgarth to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, and couldn't recommend it more highly.
The Owlery itself is small but perfectly formed. It is beautifully designed and was immaculately clean during our stay. The bed was comfy and cosy, the shower was strong and hot and it contained everything we possibly needed, including a well equipped kitchen. We couldn't have asked for more.
Our hosts for the weekend were absolutely lovely. They live in the property next door, and were on hand just enough. They gave us lots of tips about the local area, and made sure we knew where they were if we needed anything, but it still felt nice and private. We were lucky enough to have beautiful autumnal weather during our stay, and they were kind enough to let us make use of their garden - we had a lovely time drinking wine and taking in the gorgeous views.
The location is great. It's a part of the world we hadn't visited before, and we thought it was just beautiful. There is a handy pub a minute down the road, and it is in very close proximity to Aysgarth Falls, which makes for a stunning walk. We loved exploring the surrounding areas, and particularly enjoyed our meal at the Aysgarth Falls hotel.
