Really enjoyed the recent stay at Wakui Hotel. Daisuke and his family and staff were exceptional is every aspect! I would recommend this hotel to all wishing to stay in Myoko Akaura-onsen area.
Onsen area below located in the hotel basement could use some sprucing up. Apart from that, the hotel was comfortable and cozy.

Picturesque surroundings, a short drive to numerous trail heads and natural attractions. Clean facilities, very friendly staff, easy communication in English. Room was comfortable and quiet.
Most of the interior is very old, needs a thorough facelift. Musty smell.
4.1
Easy access to hiking trails and onsen. Host offered transport to-and-from myokokogen station, as well as tourist spots nearby. Beautifully kept building in a mountain town. Meals were consistent, delicious, fresh, and ought to be recognised by Michelin.
Visible signs of wear on the building, but still in good service.

daisuke and his wife spoke excellent English and we’re awesome in helping with every need
pillows were traditional (hard ) but we just asked and received soft ones
4.1
* large room with separate bedroom and tatami parts
* good location close to shopping street, about 10-15 minutes walk to Yodel Ski Lifts, and 5 minutes to Kumado lifts
* very friendly and helpful staff, who kindly picked me up and drove me back to Myoko Kogen station
* discount tickets available at the front desk (ski rental, lifts)
* drying toom for ski equipment
* the room was quite cold, but the electric heater I received at the front helped a lot
* the story and paintings of Hatsuno Goto, hotel owner's relative
* room equipment and furniture are a bit old
* bathroom was very cold
* water temperture control for the shower was very difficult - after turning a knob a few milimiters, cold water immediatelly changes into super hot
* towels are not changed every day
* soundproofing is not very good, I could hear my neighbor snoring
* wifi signal was weak and often losing the connection

Nice staff, comfortable and good location.
The room was 100% comfortable and beautiful.
Payment: I had to make a bank transfer after the trip because it was unclear if it was processed by the site or not.

Very close to ski lifts. Old hotel but super clean. Comfortable beds and rooms not too small. Staff was friendly.

1. Location: Near to Ski Lift.
2. In-house onsen.
3. Ski wear drying place.
4. The male owner Daisuke Wakui, he picked up and dropped us in Myoko Kogen Station. He is the real good guy in the property. Better to talk with him rather the female counterparts.
1. Old property.
2. No bidet and a bit smelly toilet.
3. The air conditioning is very noisy.
4. The old lady owner is a bit rude to guest especially if you are asian. She should approach the guest respectfully.

Location is good, near the main street. easy access to many restaurants in town and also quite close to the ski lift. The pick-up service is perfect to and from the train station. Owner is very kind and helpful.
4.1
Owners were very friendly and helpful. Location good if you are skiing at Akakura Onsen area. A fair walk to the Akakura Kanko base area. Breakfast was good (mostly Japanese style food).
Beds and pillows very hard and no bedside tables. It was very expensive for the level of accommodation. Rooms are small which is fairly normal for Japan but these are on the smaller side of what you might expect. The Onsen is very basic and run down - better to go to the one in the hotel across the street.
4.1
Hotel managers are very friendly and helpful. They picked us up from train station. Very close to chairlift. Good ski boot drying room in basement.
Onsen a bit tired and needs updating. Pillows are small and flat.
