We stayed at Lightly Salted last week; my family of five [2 adults, 3 kids (11, 5, 1)]and out close friends family of three [2 adults, 1 kid (3)].

The property was 100 percent as advertised. Kitchen was the best stocked we have ever stayed in. Home was spacious and beautiful. Host was responsive and helpful when we were stuck on the beach. Recommended a towing company that was fast, easy, and awesome people. Note: tire pressure is best at 12 to 14 pounds.Would recommend 100 percent!!

Everything was very nice. The pool and hottub was very clean and the house was exactly as described. Access to the beach was easy, just load you vehicle up and drive about a minute to your spot. We definitely recommend this property.
5.0
The house is a bit weather beaten, as to be expected, only a dune separates it from the ocean. Owners did a great job with the beach decorations placed just right. Loved the view from the deck where we saw the horses across the street, in the yard and under the deck. Also seen dolphins jumping thru the waves. Loved the house and the locations. Also, owners were quick to respond.

This rental was awesome! We had plenty of room for our group of 10. The rental property met all of our expectations, from the moment we hit the 4 wheel drive beach, to seeing the wild horses daily and catching enough fish while shore fishing to have a great fish fry the last day of our stay. Lightly Salted also had the best stocked kitchen of any VRBO that we have rented. It had everything that we needed! We would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND Lightly Salted as a unique, comfortable and peaceful place to stay!

Great place

Lightly Salted is a great house in a great location that gave us the solitude on the coast we were seeking. The house provided unobstructed views up and down the beach with the roar of the surf loud and clear on the decks. We were looking to avoid large crowds of beach goers, and the beach was mostly ours alone when we ventured out looking for shells and shore birds. The sun rises on the last few days were spectacular!
The owners installed a brand new refrigerator with icemaker for the kitchen on the day of arrival. The unit was clean, and we have no complaints with any of the other appliances or furniture. The owners were very responsive and even helped me get our Jeep unstuck from sand during our worst weather day (without us asking)!
Overall an outstanding experience, and we look forward to returning for our next Outer Banks vacation.

Great property, salty air is definitely hard on a home, but the owner has done a nice job of making it feel like home. Decor was lovely and well thought out. I feel that some people who have previously rented the property have not treated it with care. That’s a shame that people don’t take care of someone’s rental home as they would their own. The pool is nice, the hot tub is good but needs a new cover. All in all we were happy. Would rent again.

Our host was accommodative and was always easy to get ahold of. The house was awesome and big enough for our family and friends. We enjoyed the drive on the beach to get there and the amazing views. The pool and hot tub were a must for our kids and they enjoyed it. The horses came up to the house a few times and were usually in sight all week
. The only negative thing to say was the sleep number beds were uncomfortable but that’s a personal preference. We had the best time at Lightly Salted and made many good memories.

Loved the remoteness, beach access, pool.
Beautiful views. Perfect weather
Horses came for a visit once and stayed around the house for quite a while.
Kitchen well stocked
Ice maker was broken, but host refunded cost of buying bags
Only downside to trip was highway 12 traffic- plan to come and go with consideration to avoid peak travel times. Would be the only reason why would not visit again during the summer season

Loved the remoteness of the property, the horses, the beach was beautiful, but not prepared for what was required to travel on the beach without a lot of anxiety. Getting to the beach through the sand requires being in pretty good shape and agile. First impression of the house when we arrived was disappointing, but it grew on us. It's a lot of money to rent to not have the basic amenities provided or be in better shape.

Wow! What a week! This was our first time to OBX, so we wanted it be as perfect as possible! This house was absolutely everything we could have wished for and more. We had plenty of room, the kitchen was fully stocked to meet all of our needs, beds were comfy, pool felt amazing. I have zero complaints! Marissa was so good at getting back with me quickly, even over my silly questions. Watching the sunrise from the top deck was breathtaking & the wild horses visited in the mornings and most evenings. The walk to the beach was very short and beautiful as well.
The adventure getting to the house was fun & definitely a memory we won’t forget. If this is your first time driving on a 4X4 beach like it was for us, do not get discouraged, believe me-see it though it’s 100% worth it! We’ll be back to Lightly Salted soon!! Thank you for sharing your house with my family to make a million memories!

This was our families 1st trip to OBX and this house was great. The adventure getting their was an awesome experience. The horses were near the house daily we even got to see some babies. Down sides were the pool lighs did not work, there was no umbrellas for the tables that were on the deck and in the pool area. The cleaning company could do a better job.
Making memories was what this trip was about and we were able to do that with the perfect weather we had all week. We got to experience a thunderstorm at the beach as well on the last night of our stay seeing the sky and ocean change quickly was neat to see.

Overall, our family enjoyed our vacation. This was our first time in Corolla and we really loved the seclusion of the 4x4 beach, seeing the horses, and the close proximity to the ocean.
Pros: -plenty of space, pool/hot tub, screens porch, large dining table, 3rd floor views. Marissa was very responsive to messages. Upon arrival, there was an issue with the air conditioning. She promptly dispatched a service company and fixed the problem immediately. She was pleasant and prompt in her communication.
Cons: Housekeeping issues/TLC needed. The house was not disgustingly dirty but all of the blinds, ceiling fans, and higher windows had a thick layer of dust and we found food stuck to the dining chairs and table. The house needs a deep clean. Small details matter. Again, I understand having renters is very hard on a home. Being oceanfront also adds so much wear and tear to a home. However, when you are paying a premium rate for a premium location, I expect small details are attended to. TLC items - Ripped cushions outdoor seating, pilled/stained bed linens, pool area light not working, and missing fixtures. Overall cosmetic TLC is needed throughout the home. Again, none of these individually are deal breakers but added up start to impact your stay. I think many of the issues were a result of insufficient housekeeping and the owner not being appropriately informed by housekeeping/property manager of things needing attention. A few fixes would make this a 5 star home.

You have a lovely home but whomever cleans it does not do a very good job.
It would be nice if the windows with the view were clean to take advantage of the view.

This place is very nice. I have been staying at the 4X4 beaches for years and I can say that this house was great. It has a loaded kitchen with more than you would possibly need.
Beds are very comfortable and easily adjusted to your liking.
The water does smell like sulfur but that is something you can expect from most houses on the 4x4 beaches so bring water for drinking and coffee, ex...
The view in amazing and the horses are a daily visitor near and sometimes under the house.
The homeowner was very accommodating to any and all needs, within minutes.

Other then furniture (couch)being torn and water smell I loved the house and how close we were to the water!! Will be staying again.

We truly enjoyed our stay. The pool and hot tub where very nice when there was a beach advisory for the last few days. The wild horses visited and slept in the backyard overnight, that was a special treat! Overall the house is in need of a few repairs, deep cleaning and new living room furniture.

This house has the perfect location and size to be an amazing. Unfortunately, from the moment we arrived, there were issues with furniture, ants, dirty dishes and cabinets, also air ducts. The showers didn’t drain so I emailed and they sent someone within the hour. A day later we went to do laundry and there was so much mold in the washer. The smell was awful so we attempted to clean it for over an hour and sent an email to have it fixed. A guy came and said there was nothing he could do except replace it; howver, that never happened. My son is allergic to mold so we tried to further clean it and the washer broke, leaving water and lint all over the floor. We got no one for that and no response. Also for those that have children, be careful of the deck, there are splinters and the gates are partially broken. We still had an amazing week but wouldn’t stay here again for the price. It needs a top to bottom cleaning and repaired.
4.0
The location of the house was perfect. You can watch the sunrise and the dolphins swimming from the balcony. The five horses came to the house just about every morning and one evening. They literally walked up to the house as the photos showed. We were very glad that the house had a swimming pool as the ocean was very cold, even in early August.
The house was clean. Checkin was easy. Marissa responded to all messages quickly. The mattresses were comfy. The kitchen was well stocked. But you do need to bring your own sponges, dish towels, detergent and trash bags.
We all drove Subaru AWD's and did not have trouble driving in the sand, after deflating the tires to 20 psi.
The reasons for 4 stars and not 5:
1. the living room couch was very worn out and had serious rips.
2. the outdoor lights by the pool and the hot tub were disconnected so that we could not enjoy either after sunset.
3. the stereo to the pool was unplugged and while it could reach the outlet in the hall bath, the outlet had devices connected to them and with a label to not disconnect them.
4. as part of the check out process, the host required that the dishwasher be emptied. Other rental properties we used in the past only required that we run the dishwasher. Given that the dishwasher took 2 hours to run, it did not allow time for a full breakfast before 10am checkout.

My family and I have been going to the OBX for 8 years now, and Lightly Salted is the only house we’ll stay at. Perfect views, perfect house, perfect vacation! The best!

Excellent location for relaxation and wild horses!
What an unforgettable vacation with family. This is the perfect location to see wild horses right from your porch and to walk to the beach for amazing sunsets. The kitchen is well-stocked, and we enjoyed family dinners together almost every night! The views are stunning! The house could use a little TLC (patched places and holes on the leather furniture, broken screen on the screened-in patio), and the sleep number beds are outdated and uncomfortable, but the location and quick responses for anything we needed during our stay made up for any lack of sleep from the mattresses! We even had a small plumbing issue arise, and the owner had someone out immediately on a SUNDAY! Excellent customer service, and we just can't say it enough......LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION for a family vacation of 10. Plenty to do and VERY relaxing.

Perfect Stay
Our family, which consists of my husband and myself, my son and daughter and their spouses and a 3 year old, 1 year old and an infant so loved our stay. We had never stayed on the 4x4 beach and it was an adventure and we would most definitely go back. We saw the horses multiple days, once under the house. The house was just as advertised and had everything you needed. The pool was great!! We enjoyed the deck each night and the guys set up the corn hole boards on the deck. The path way to the beach was perfect to go back and forth. We did drive our truck out each morning and parked it for the day The owner responded to a couple of questions we had quickly.

BEST BEACH Trip EVER
When it's says 4x4 beach, definitely make sure you drive a 4-Wheel drive. I've been to a lot of beaches on the east coast and this was by far my absolute favorite. When we arrived at the house there was no water, Melissa was very responsive and had maintance there immediately to fix the issue. The beach was amazing, no populated at all and was very clean for having wild horses on the beach. We will definitely be back!

Another great vacation!
This was our second time staying and we enjoyed ourselves so much! Marisa was very responsive to any issue or questions we had. A little disappointed they no longer have a propane grill but it was not a big issue. Breath taking sunrises and views make up for anything. Our son loved seeing the horses daily and even on the deck. Cant wait to go back!

Breath Taking Views
Our first time to the Outer Banks and won’t be our last. We loved the views of the Ocean and watching the dolphins swim by regularly. The horses were so fun to watch and really do come right to the house. It was a long overdue trip to the Ocean that did not disappoint.

Much needed family time
Lightly salted was everything we were hoping for. The house itself was incredibly clean, the beach literally right at the front door. The drive down the beach to the house was an experience I will never forget, I had never driven on the beach before so that was interesting, exhilarating and a little frightening as we arrived a little after dark. The property owner had told us to be sure to get there before dark, and we tried, but traffic just did not comply. It was an absolute much-needed wonderful time for our family. Would rent this house again in the future.

Excellent location on 4x4 beach!
My family really enjoyed our stay at Lightly Salted. The house had everything we needed plus some. We really appreciated that the owner was willing to keep the pool and hot tub open for our stay. The kids really enjoyed having the pool available to them, and we all enjoyed the hot tub. We loved that the horses came and hung out under the house one afternoon. This was our first trip to obx 4x4 beach and we are already ready to go back! Owner was very easy to work with and always responded in a timely manner.

Great house but needs serious attention!
This is a great house in a great location for ocean views/play. The pool and hot tub were great. The kitchen was stocked well. But unfortunately, the house is in dire need of a deep cleaning and maintenance/repairs. The blinds were broken (so no light/privacy blockage)in bedrooms, some furniture was ripped, frig drawers broken, exterior and interior of window sills filled with PILES of dead bugs. Although Marissa was very responsive, she did nothing to rectify the cleanliness problem. I hope a new cleaning crew and some repairs will improve someone's (not ours) next experience.

Perfect Vacation With Ocean View!
This home was truly amazing!! The photos did not come close to how perfect everything is. Waking up watching the sunrise from the top porch was beautiful! Even seeing the wild horses come close to the house was incredible! The home was spacious, clean and was supplied with anything you need. Having the pool and hot tub was a great feature and a good change from the beach after a long day. Marissa was wonderful and extremely helpful answering any questions or inquiries right away. So happy we stayed at lightly salted! One of the best vacations we’ve had!

Great location
Pros: Communication with property owner was absolutely fantastic. I do feel that the house is a bit dated and could use some love. Horses stopped by the house at least 4 times during the week, amazing views of the ocean and just a quick walk to the beach.
Cons: The porches need nails put back in place and was saddened to see that the once screened in porch area was no longer screened in. Water could only be used in one portion of the house before water pressure would drop in another shower or kitchen. Laundry left in dryer and dishes left in dishwasher upon arrival; nothing like chores upon arrival on vacation. I now know I will never buy a sleep number bed either; it felt like sleeping on adult version of an air mattress.
Staying on the 4x4 beach was a fantastic experience and Great memories were had that will last a lifetime. Don’t follow GPS directions to get to the house - turning on canary was much easier!!!

Marissa is the most responsive owner we have rented with. This is a great location on 4x4 area and the house was exactly as expected from listing. We would absolutely stay here again!

Great location, breathtaking views from the house, caring owners, and wild horses!!
We loved this house and experience! This was our first time on the 4x4 beach. It’s a really good mix of adventure and relaxation. The house is in a great location where you could chose to either walk or drive to the beach for the day. Because of that it was so easy for our large family (6 adults and 1 4yo) to trickle out onto the beach at different times and go back quickly whenever needed (like for toddler naps and emergency potty breaks!!). The horses were constantly roaming around the house and it was so easy to see them on the balconies from different angles, which was AWESOME!! Great view of the beach and dunes, and you could even see the sunset on the sound. The house was clean and large, so needed for our big family. Biggest thanks and shout out to the owners, who were really responsive to us when we couldn’t figure out the WiFi and spent a lot of time with us on the phone walking us through it. They were really caring and put in effort to help us, which I really appreciated.

Awesome time. Great pool and hot tub. Property has many rooms and great deck
Lots of fun. If you go to the beach make sure you drive your vehicle there. Benji vehicles drive on the sand constantly and your vehicle will provide protection. Also easier to carry all your beach things

A cozy house on the sand
Our trip was Epic! After being home for over a year we thought this would be the perfect trip! We have never been to the OBX and we will be back! The house was amazing and had plenty of room for everyone. LOVED all the Rea Dunn decor...Im a little obsessed myself! I will say we got stuck on the way into the house. We actually got stuck trying to get up the hill on Sandfiddler. I suggest you take the second entrance, a street. down. It flat and easy in and easy out. The Sheriffs department on the sand was hands down AH-Mazing! It was also nice to see their presence on the beach. The pool and Hot tub were a nice treat! Plenty of parking for the multiple trucks we had. There was a power surge and the fridge went out and the Owner was in contact almost immediately! She explained how to reset the fridge and we were back in business. We enjoyed the covered porch for morning coffee. Loved the pantry in the kitchen!! The view is to die for!!! We will absolutely be back to Lightly Salted!!
