Our week-long stay at Casa Margarita was an absolute nightmare. We were a group of 7 adults and 3 young children (ages 1.5 to 3 years old).
Here’s a summary of our disastrous experience:
A. No Water: No water upon arrival and persistent water issues throughout the stay. Most basic needs not met!
B. Child Amenities: Despite confirming availability, the promised cribs and high chair were not provided until 4 days into our stay.
C. Poor Housekeeping: The house was cleaned just once during our stay.
D. Cold Showers: No warm water, causing our children and wives to endure cold showers.
E. Faulty Appliances: The fridge leaked constantly.
F. Nonexistent WiFi: WiFi did not work, posing a safety concern for monitoring sleeping children.
G. Old and Poorly Maintained House: Noisy doors, faulty light fixtures, and ceiling fans.
H. Drinking and Cooking Water: Had to purchase bottled water and use pool water to flush toilets on days without water.
I. Ridiculous Water Pressure: Poor water pressure, with only the pool shower having semi-normal pressure.
Management Failures:
1. Despite booking via VRBO, VACASA took over the payment, revealing their poor track record.
2. Slow and Scripted Responses: VACASA took an unreasonably long time to respond, with scripted replies.
3. Broken Promises: A promised credit by supervisors of both companies for our stay was not followed up on by VACASA nor VRBO.
4. VRBO has promised a refund of the entire booking fee but has failed to follow up on it

Pros: location can't be beat. There is an onsite grounds keeper to answer questions. The beds are comfortable. You can hear howler monkeys in the nearby trees.
Cons: We were without water (at times water pressure) several times during our stay. We were told the pump needs to be fixed. We had to fill up the toilet with pool water to flush it. If it is a known problem then the owner should make provisions to deal with it. One time it was city wide and for longer than a day as well as the electricity. I realize this is a costa rican thing, but again, make provisions. After several hours the city brought by water after we already went to the store to get some. When the pump would go out there wasn't enough pressure to take a shower. The owner isn't directly accessible, they go through a third party, VACASA. When I contacted them and asked how we would be compensated for such an inconvenience I was told it was "reported to the local team."
The air conditioning unit is broken in one of the bedrooms
There is construction happening next door that begins as 6:45 am.
The house is for sale and was shown to prospective buyers while we were there. This was inconvenient because the housekeeper had to come again and rearrange our things to make it look as empty as possible. She was a very nice lady but it felt a little invasive.
For the amount of money we paid for this house I feel we dealt with too many issues that should have been avoided.

First time in Costa Rica and loved this home. Loved the set up with main bedroom in the home with three bedrooms separate and a casita. It worked great for everyone to have their own space. Beds are comfortable. Location was great and convenient. We rented a 6 person golf cart to get around Playa Flamingo and Pertero. Excursions were so easy to set up. Jesus who is there for any questions you have was amazing along with Martha who cleaned for us. Highly recommend and would stay here again.

The photos of the house don’t even do it justice. I’ve never stayed in a place so clean and well maintained. The pool was sparkling! Jesus was so helpful with directions and where to find groceries and restaurant suggestions. He took the worry out for exploring. I highly recommend this property.

This home was welcoming and beautiful. Large enough to accommodate a family of 8, separate bedrooms with locked doors made it easy to have separation and safety. The grounds keeper was so lovely and happy to help with our requests. Quick walk to the beach and surrounded with gorgeous homes and birds. We made a lot of great memories!

Our whole stay here was absolutely the best!! The house is so spacious and gorgeous. The view is amazing, the location, Jesus was so kind and helpful every step of the way. The house, although on a hill, was walkable to the beach, to Coco Loco,(our favorite. Great drinks, food okay. But right on the beach with great service. Eduardo was our guy!) The center of town is a ways but still walkable if you want to go to the monday market there are lots of great vendors. One thing about the house if you're looking for modern and updated this isn't it but I appreciate classic and full of character. Plenty of space for everyone. The main bedroom is so nice. The apartment has a full kitchen. The pipes there can be a little loud when running the shower. And the main shower one of the heads didn't work. WiFi doesn't really reach the rooms but we weren't bothered by any of that. The kitchen is STOCKED. That was really helpful since there were 10 of us and we cooked a lot. Hanging on the porch was so peaceful and relaxing. We all loved our stay here. Todo estaba super bueno!! Pura vida!

Overall, we really liked the house, wonderful pool and beautiful beach nearby. The negatives, house was dark and some of the lights were burned out. We would prefer the cleaning person not show up 3 hours before checkout. It was awkward and we felt rushed.
The layout of the house was interesting and met our needs. The drive to our house was rough right in front and the lack of a real address was challenging finding our house.
Jesus, the caretaker, was great and felt really comfortable with him there to watch the house or answer our questions.

where do I start... I guess the bad. It isn't the house I reserved so I felt a lit bait and switched. But i did pick this house after the other fell through for what ever reason. The house is a little dated the master bath shower had two heads but only one worked. Three of the rooms are below and around the pool deck I think they all had a leak not sure if its from pool leaks or water not running off well enough either way they leaked not a ton just a constant drip. The internet didn't work the first two days because i believe it was struck by lightening but was swapped but day three but with out it good luck posting anything it's only a 3g area if that. We lost power for a day also. there are a thousand light and fan switches super confusing.and last but not least there where trash pandas the fought on the roof every night sounded like Godzilla in Tokio...Ok enough of that the view is amazing, pool amazing, location amazing, price fair and Jesus the concierge was the best so helpful and new the area and property well.

This house was perfect for our needs! With seven of us coming together, there was the perfect breakdown of rooms for us, enough room in the pool, and great access to towns, shopping, groceries, and beaches.
This house is ideal for families with older children or multiple couples getting together. Three of the bedrooms are under the pool area, there is an apartment style room above the garage and a room in the main house.
Outdoor space was perfect for cooking and eating outside or gathering around the pool. There were even Howler Monkey's outside the pool area that we could watch!
Jesus, the caretaker was amazing! He was around without being in the way.
Would definitely stay here again!

Where do I begin? The layout of the house offered private rooms for everyone in our family. There is only one bedroom in the main house and all others are away from the house providing privacy and comfort for all. The pacific ocean view and sound of the waves with a short walk to the Flamingo beach was a plus. We had the best of both worlds- access to the beach and privacy. The kitchen was fully equipped for all the chefs in our group. The best part of the house was Jesus the caretaker. He was always there with a smile to help with whatever we needed, be it directions or just little things around the house. He made the house a home- thank you Jesus!
