Maple Cottage has 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 6. This newly-renovated cottage located in the scenic Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina features a living room with an original stone fireplace (gas logs), central heating and air conditioning, and a fully equipped kitchen. You will enjoy morning coffee on the screened front porch, cocktails on the flagstone patio, and making S’mores in the backyard fire pit. A gas grill is available for a quick barbecue. The Cottage has lovely landscaping and ample space for parking. There is wifi available along with smart TVs and a DVD player. We have streaming capabilities on the smart TVs, if you have a personal streaming account and login information.
The master suite has a king bed, large closet space, a whirlpool bath and separate shower.
The second bedroom has a queen bed and the third bedroom has a full bed in the pull out couch. The second bathroom has a full-sized washer and dryer.
The kitchen has everything you will need to prepare family meals. It features electric appliances, oven, dishwasher, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker.
The cottage is situated across the road from picturesque Mirror Lake. The locals enjoy feeding the ducks and fishing here. Fishing gear is available for guests. The area is also known for its many hiking trails, waterfalls, scenic drives, and gem mining.
The town of Highlands is still unspoiled by the commercialism of the other larger cities in north Georgia and western North Carolina. Main Street is a collection of unique specialty shops, galleries, and a variety of restaurants that suit any budget. The Recreation Center has an enclosed swimming pool and seasonal skating rink. We had a fantastic stay at Maple Cottage! The house was exceptionally clean and nicely decorated. It was a very short drive (6 minutes) to Main Street in Highlands and also to the grocery store. The house had everything we needed to make meals at home while the quick access to town made it fun to pop in for a meal, ice cream at Kilwyns, or to stroll around the weekend farmers market at Hutchinson Park. The owner (Sheri) was an excellent communicator letting us know via text message that she was available to answer any of our questions if needed.

The cottage was first-rate: super-clean, well-supplied, and charmingly decorated. Location is ideal, with the town center a couple of miles away in one direction, waterfalls and wonderful forest glades less than a mile in the other direction. This was our second stay in Maple Cottage -- perhaps even more enjoyable than the first time. The owner is attentive (without being intrusive) and eager to do everything possible to ensure the guests' comfort. My husband and I may return for a third time in the future -- and highly recommend it to others.

The house was great for our escape from the Birmingham heat. I’ve rented in Highlands for over 10 years and this was the cleanest house I’ve ever rented! Everything was in working order and all switches, etc. were well marked so we knew how to operate everything. There were plenty of towels and other supplies. Early mornings on the screened porch let us enjoy the bird serenades and the deep croak of the bull frog in the lake across the street while watching bunnies and squirrels play and the hummingbirds drink from the bee balm and other flowers in the gardens. Mirror Lake is a good neighborhood for walks and is close enough to town to allow for shopping excursions and lunching. If there were a 3rd “real bed” instead of a sofa bed the house would have been perfect. We plan to rent the house again.

Blue Maple Cottage was a delightful place to stay while visiting Highlands with our family. The rooms were charmingly decorated and comfy to sleep in. Our children preferred sleeping on the 2 provided blow up mattresses instead of the sofa couch in the entrance room. They enjoyed that room for relaxing in during the day. Plenty of extra blankets for them. It was helpful to have all the switches marked clearly. We didn't use the grill or fishing gear, but it looked like nice options. The flowers were gorgeous, and the twinkle lights on the porch made a nice welcome. The kitchen was well stocked. We enjoyed lots of waterfalls, Whiteside Mountain, making pottery at the Bascom, walking Highlands, and a special dinner at On The Veranda. We were thankful for this cozy home away from home!

Place is super close to all things in Highlands. Ample parking and the house is lovely. Lots of space for all to stretch out. It worked so well for my family, kids included. Well equipped place with everything you could need for a great stay!

This trip was for my wife's birthday on May 26th. It was a perfect setting to make memories with our family, which was a wish of hers. I choose this cottage after my DIL found it because of the location but also the sign in the cottage which stated the rules. The last rule was to "Make Memories", so it was a perfect choice. We enjoyed Highlands more than we imagined, so we will be back.

Very easy rental process. When we arrived the lights were on and music was playing on the radio. A nice touch. Everything was clean and all necessities were there. We cooked parts of our Thanksgiving lunch and then met up with daughter and her family for the other goodies. A hand mixer might have been helpful for the mashed potatoes, but everything else was there. We really enjoyed our stay.

The cottage is clean and adequate, reasonably well equipped. Our problem came when a niece showed up late with a dog certified as 'emotional support.' I told her straightaway that pets were not allowed, but it was 8 p.m. and she'd come from New York. She said she'd leave first thing the next morning, and I restricted the dog to the room at the front door period! At about 10:20 p.m. the property manager came walking up the drive (we were sitting on the porch) screaming bloody murder. I went out and tried to calm him down, but he showed no respect, no courtesy. It was a very unpleasant experience, to say the least. He screamed, "You think you can slip a dog in on me, but I know it's here, and you'll have to pay and get out tomorrow!" Then he stormed off. I phoned the owner in Florida the next morning. She was reasonable enough, but we will have to pay a $250 fee to de-fumigate the house, though the dog was non-shedding, did not budge out of the outer room into the house at large and was gone the following morning early. I had a note on the phone that I'd overlooked from the owner saying that the property manager would come and walk through to assure himself that the dog was gone. Whether he did or not, I cannot say, for we spent most of the weekend at a cousin's house nearby for the family reunion we were attending. I will NEVER STAY IN THIS HOUSE AGAIN!!

We heard Highlands was a beautiful mountain town and I found this lovely cottage. It has two spacious bedrooms with their own bathrooms. There is plenty of seating and a great screened in porch. We enjoyed the fire pit and took lots of walks in the neighborhood. The town is just 5 minutes away and has lots of beautiful shops. We recommend Highlands Smokehouse.

House was clean and comfortable. Sheri was responsive when we called her. On the negative side, bottom oven did not work. Top oven seems to be slow. Fridge is functional but old and rusty behind freezer section. Enjoyed our stay.

Very very nice property located in the Mirror Lake neighborhood in Highlands. The home was ready for us with lights on and soft music when we arrived late at night. The house is stocked with everything you need and is well appointed. It is perfect for a family vacation. There is construction occurring on both sides. The noise is only during the day but it takes away from your peace and quiet. The bigger issue is traffic blocking the single lane road. Several times we had to back all they way out and go all the way around to enter. One time both sides were blocked and we had to sit and wait. We cut our stay short by a day because of it. Be sure to check on the status of the construction before booking!

We had a stellar experience. Dealing with Sheri, the owner, was very pleasant. She was interested in knowing all was well with her home and our experience. This was our first time renting this home and we were so pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness. It is located on a very quite street in a great neighborhood. After our first few days, we rented again for next year!
