We loved that the owners shared their very special home that they have had in the family for 200 years! We also loved meeting the owners and their dogs, who were all so welcoming and kind. The landscape outside is gorgeous with a beautiful river nearby, and all the nature sounds to lull you to sleep.
If you have allergies to older homes, be sure to bring some allergy medicine. It is an authentic thatched roof home!

We reached post check in time. Hideo was very helpful. He guided us very well. Before reached at Tokuheian we were not able to had our dinner. As the location is very far from city. But host help us lot. He provided all the facilities and arrange raw food material whatever available that time. All of us enjoyed this stay . It will be truly memorable .
If we could manage to reach on time that would be best for us. Unfortunately we missed lot of things which we could explore over there.

This thatched house has been kept and maintained for generations. An opportunity for living in it gave us a unique experience, and I really enjoyed seeing the traces that time had left on the structure and all kinds of items in it. The owners, Hideo and his wife were very kind, conversational and helpful. Hideo san travelled around Europe when he was young, now trying to return the kindness and hospitality he once received by offering services and atmosphere like a comfortable western B&B. If you are interested in historical building, traditional Japanese rurality, or maybe chatting with locals in smooth English, you should definitely stay here. The inside view of the upper floor is priceless!
This is a living house with a very old structure, thus limiting its comfortableness and temperature control. Not every room was equipped with an air conditioner or heater, and taking a shower could be really challenging during cold seasons.

Lovely hosts who went above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. They also had the cutest dogs! The surrounding countryside is quiet and beautiful. Highly recommended.
