About this house rental
If you want TV, our place is probably not for you. The lack of TV (although it is clearly in our listing) has gotten us several less than stellar ratings. Even so, we stand firm in our decision to keep TV out of both of our listings.
It is our intention to provide a different kind of experience for our guests, one more like our families experienced growing up in the 80's and before, where attentiveness to one another, quiet, and nature were more commonly appreciated. The only TV in the house is a very small vintage one available to watch the vintage media that is provided.
Our home has been recently updated, while still trying to keep a feel from the not-so-distant past. Enjoy the quiet neighborhood from the covered front porch, sunroom, or large rear deck from where the birds and small wildlife can be experienced.
Experience the vintage books in every room. Large living room with piano and vintage media (CD's, VCR, cassette tapes, and records) and ways to play them. Board games and puzzles in dining room.
Each bedroom furnished with it's own desk for study or reading.
Cookbooks in kitchen, National Geographic Magazines, encyclopedias, and educational books in living room, health, garden, and crafts books in 'Mom's' room, pastoral books in 'Dad's' room, and miscellaneous books in 'Sibling's' room.

The property was generally lovely - very convenient and well stocked. It would have been nice to have a tv (the lack of tv/cable might have been in the listing and I missed it). A bigger complaint is that one of the beds is extremely uncomfortable. We noticed that this had been mentioned in the guest book by several others. Finally, the most serious complaint was that the thermostat went out on the second day. We contacted the host at 9 am, heard from her around 11:30 and 2:00 but were not really informed on whether heat was back until 5 pm. I was quite nervous by that time, especially since the host had indicated in her message that she would keep us up to date and might change the lock code. I don’t mind the thermostat issue - that can happen to anyone. I was quite stressed about the communication.

Bad situation, reservations were messed up, reasonably resolved by landlord owner

After we sorted out the communication issues, we settled in to our “home away from home” for five days. It provided plenty of space for three adults. All the amenities were there, although the kitchen lighting could use some attention and upgrading.
Provided us with the quiet we needed after the loud intensity of a competition at CrossFit Mayhem. Interesting family history is seen throughout the home. It suited our needs just fine!

It was a great venue to stay at. It's only an hour and a half away from Nashville so you can get to the city quickly and enjoy the city during the day and enjoy the small town during the night. The only "downside" was a small leak in the shower head, but honestly, it did not bother me at all. It was a great spot that makes you feel like home!

It was quiet, clean and easy to get in and out. I left you a note in the guest book about a few minor things that could make the property safer and even more pleasant than it was. Thank you for letting us stay

We were in Cookeville to visit our son and his family for his birthday. The house was comfortable and the neighborhood was peaceful. It’s much nicer than staying at a Hotel! Thank-You!

This property was as advertised as an library like Retreat. Very interesting and comfortable home that provided all the amenities and space we needed. Thank you very much for the hospitality. Emily was very gracious and a pleasure to work with.

lots of space in a very quiet neighborhood
The property is in a very quiet neighborhood. The only thing you hear in the morning are the birds singing!
Three comfortable and spacious bed rooms. Everything was clean. We've been cooking ourselves quite a lot and we found everything we needed for it. Happy to recommend to others!

Nice Respite
My husband and I were getting away for a few days respite. As we are caretakers of
my Mom and I work at home. It was quite and it was easy access to town. For the most part it was clean and tidy. However I did have to clean the bathtubs. We did miss having a TV as well. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Nice and Clean, Good Host
The property was clean, in a nice, quiet area and as described. Very convenient to planned activities. A little issue with VRBO online portal upon arrival but host contacted me and resolved the issue by going above and beyond what most probably would. Would definitely stay there again.

Peaceful, homey atmosphere
We found this place to be ideal for our needs. Clea, larger than we thought it would be and comfortable like being in our own home. Great place if you want to get away from it all and just relax

Good location, very comfortable
The home is located in a nice, quiet neighborhood. It was clean and comfortable. I did leave a list of suggestions for the owner for it to be better for any future guests. Any issues were resolved by the owner. Really liked the library and piano. Had plenty of room. Would stay there again.

Quiet for adults, not kid friendly
Decent location. Our privacy was interrupted 3 times in the 4 day stay by the Host. Cleaning could have been better (dirty knife in floor in kitchen) a bunch of little black hairs on master bath floor. Not suitable for small children. Good for just a quiet get away.

Restful
We had a great stay. The area was very quite and restful. One morning I was reading on the back deck when two young deer came into the yard. Watched them for about 30 minutes while they ate leaves off the trees. The only thing the property needs is a smart TV. Will go back next time in TN.

Great Place For an Extended Stay
I've been staying here on and off for a few months, and the property has met all my needs. Its a quick commute into Cookeville where I've been working, and good base for trips to Nashville and overnights to Smokey Mountain Natl Park. There's local hiking, and the neighborhood is quiet if you just want to get some exercise and go for a walk. Spent many mornings working out in the enclosed porch, and many evenings grilling on the back deck. Emily, our host, was great, and quick to respond to any of my inquires. I'll stay here again when I'm in the area.

Good foundations for a vrbo rental
With just a few updates with kitchen dishes And cooking supplies, sunroom and deck furniture, the rental will be a superior find. Neighbor hood is very quiet, safe, and convenient to Cookeville dining.

I loved Emily's VRBO
Very clean and peaceful. The home has historic charm with the furniture and the many many books. I am a Christian and felt at home. The Bible in the siblings room and the picture book of the varela family in Jerusalem was very interesting. Sitting on the deck I was visited by a hummingbird and a cool lizard. We were very close to state parks and visited Burgess Falls and Cummins Falls. I would stay again if traveling through. Laura

Nice House
It was a nice house. It was clean and had everything we needed. Although, the kids were bored without a T.V. it was nice to get to spend time with them, without them being distracted. The sunroom was an added bonus.

Lovely experience
It was really enjoyable reading about the history of the house. Looked through the books, the paintings throughout the house and the music. Quiet neighborhood. Overall great experience. Might do good to have non-slip surface in bottom of tubs and grab bars for those that are not as steady on their feet. We hope to be able to stay again.
