An amazing peaceful and quiet property in the middle of nature! This property served as a great "home base" for our family of 4, plus 2 dogs, to explore Gold Country over the 4th of July week. The house kept us cool and comfortable even during triple digit heat. John is an amazing host and is truly invested in making sure you enjoy your stay! As other reviews have mentioned, there are a lot of burs this time of the year, and we brought a "fur rake" with us that was a lifesaver for us and our dogs.

Me, my husband, and nephew took a trip to this beautiful cabin. Let me just say this place was so wonderful. It was quiet, relaxing, just really nice. We can not wait to visit again. Also being so close to Columbia State Park was so cool, it brought me back to when I would visit with dad as a young child.

John's home and property are a slice right out of paradise. Quiet, peaceful and relaxing. This was our 3rd stay at this wonderful home. We absolutely love the property and the privacy. Nothing is more amazing than having coffee on the deck, listening to the birds and watching nature in action. It truly rejuvenates your soul!
Thank you John for being such a phenomenal host and opening your home to us again! We look forward to our next stay.

A beautiful home just a few minutes drive from the downtown area of Columbia State Park. The owner was kind enough to call and chat about the property, which made us feel very comfortable. Lots of living space including a loft with a pool table and ping pong table. My son and I had quite a ping pong tournament. My daughter had a headache after touring Columbia and enjoyed a soak in the claw foot tub. The owner allowed our dog to come, so we enjoyed a gorgeous walk through the state park next the the property. The home is very clean and well maintained. It’s obvious the owners take pride in this beautiful home. Check in and check out was easy and reasonable. We definitely recommend this home!

This cabin is super cool, spacious, resourced (pool table, ping pong), and provided a wonderful atmosphere for our friend reunion. The owner was super helpful and communicative. Would return next time I'm looking for a gold country getaway.

Very cool house, great property, even has a resident cat! Dogs are allowed but with restrictions, make sure to ask in advance as we didn't know until the day before. Otherwise a nice stay in a fun area.

This place is perfect for families. Close enough to town but has all the charm of the country.

We stayed at this home in early August 2023. Two families , 3 adults and 4 kids amongst us . Three boys (ages 10 and 12) and a “surly” girl of 14. We all had a great time; John was great too as he checked in with me prior to arrival and gave specific directions on the home, getting up the “hill”, DO NOT slow down when approaching the hill (there is sign saying that too), and then at top of hill take a HARD LEFT (gps will not tell you to turn right)… John also gave great information and suggestions for excursions (Moaning Caverns , etc.) be careful not to overload washer, if you use it. The place was comfortable, had enough AC units to keep things cool; clean, ping pong table, billiards; tree house; kids had a ball exploring outside. We would consider going back ….thank you John

Easy to get to the property absolutely no difficulty navigating the gravel and dirt road. Very comfortable and quiet at the end of the road. My 9 year old grandson enjoyed the trampoline outside and the ping pong table upstairs. Beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked great as it was over 100 most of our time during our stay. The owner was very helpful and available for any questions. An added plus was the resident cat was as sweet as she could be. The family all fell in love with her. The neighbors dogs occasionally visited but were also sweet and friendly. I will most certainly book this house again on our next trip up to the area.

We needed a place to stay to get away from fireworks for the dogs and this was a great spot. Super quiet and relaxing, tucked away in mother lode country. We spent most of our time playing pool and listening to music. Having the new AC units installed helped keep the place cool. Unfortunately, we were informed by the owner a few items the day before checking in that was a bit of a turn off and had we known before we booked, we may have gone elsewhere. 1) the road up to the driveway was reportedly fine if you had 4wd or don’t drive slow/stop. We had a RAV4 that took 5 attempts to get up that last bit of road. 2) the listing is described as pets allowed but owner states they’re only allowed in the non-carpeted areas. 3) there was a neighbor’s dog that roams the property off leash. Our dogs have been bit by loose dogs so we’re a little sensitive when it comes to strange dogs, country or not. So we didn’t get to spend as much time as we originally planned with the dogs outside on a long lead due to the neighbor’s dog loose. Homeowner was good about communicating with the neighbor but it didn’t stop the dog and quite frankly, if we had known about the dog ahead of time, we wouldn’t have stayed there. Other than those very specific complaints, the place was clean and relaxing. I just recommend updating the listing to reflect the dog limits in the home and that a 4wd is likely needed for that road.

This is a wonderful property in a great spot. A very peaceful and well-equipped retreat. Easy to Sonora and Columbia (obviously). But also a good base for trip to Calaveras Big Trees. Yosemite Valley is a little further (2 hours) but still worked nicely as a day trip (with early departure to ensure a parking spot!).

The property owner connected with us before the visit to answer any questions. The cabin sits at the end of a short gravel road with lots of privacy! It was a warm 100 degrees during our stay but the A/C kept the cabin very comfortable. The kitchen has all of the supplies that you could ever need to cook but if you want to eat out, there are great restaurants about 10 min away. You can also pan for gold and take a wagon ride in the cute little downtown area nearby. Hiking and swimming are nearby as well. Overall, our experience at this cabin was great! Everything was super clean, well stocked, and the pool table/ping pong was a plus!

This was my second time renting this gorgeous home! My first stay was with my 2 sisters. This stay was with my sisters as well as a few friends. We just enjoyed the peace and quiet and tranquil atmosphere. This home is so beautiful and private. We enjoyed the outdoors, and walking around the gorgeous property. Not to mention the pool table and ping pong table!!! I do plan on returning for another relaxing retreat in the near future! Thank you John for everything!

Best family vacation ever! Our host John got back to us immediately anytime we reached out the property was beautiful The house was gorgeous. And even if you didn't want to leave the house it was set up for a weekend inside with the game room. The snow was fun can't wait to see it in spring/summer. We absolutely want to make another trip back. Thank you John for making my son's birthday weekend perfect!

We had a lovely restful 4 night stay. The location is very private and quiet. Bedrooms were comfortable. We loved strolling the property and stargazing and night. The kitchen had all the basics we needed. The kids loved the ping pong table.
A great jumping off point for exploring Columbia state park, Sonora, Moaning Caverns, Big Trees Calaveras Park.
I appreciated the personal call from the owner to share checkin and property info.

Sometimes in life you get the privilege to experience God’s Best! For my sisters & myself this was a cabin that was sent straight from Heaven into our lives! It’s ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! Inside is a DREAM, outside is STUNNING! The place is SPOTLESS!!! We will definitely be coming back to this slice of HEAVEN! May the owners be BLESSED FOREVER for sharing this hidden treasure with us.

Our family really enjoyed staying at the cabin for a long weekend. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed while we were there. John was thorough in directions and instructions for our stay and responded to texts and phone calls promptly. We really loved sitting out in the deck and enjoying nature. We would definitely come back to the cabin if in the area again!

My family rented this cabin for the weekend and we had a great time. The owner made check-in very easy and the home was exactly as described. We visited Jamestown and Columbia, but coming back to the cabin made for a relaxing retreat. It was quiet, making for great sleeping. Furnished with 3 bedrooms, fully stocked kitchen, pool and ping-pong tables. A fantastic weekend

Beautiful rural property close to Columbia. Very much like the photos.

I have to agree with majority of what was said by the previous reviewer Cathrin B. My parents, myself and 1 year old son traveled to the area for a wedding. The stairs you go up are definitely not pictures and are difficult to bring your stuff up. Plus carry a wiggling toddler or someone who has any health issues is definitely not a fun ordeal. (These stairs are currently not pictured anywhere on the listing hopefully something is posted soon). We did contact the host about getting access to the front and it wasn’t the best correspondence. It felt like we had to provide a solid argument as to why it was needed before he would grant us access; which he did.
The cabin looked as expected but we went up during a heat wave and the single window AC did not do much but cool off the living room. So unfortunately due to the extreme heat it made our stay pretty miserable and none of us got much sleep. The room downstairs double bed room was between 77-84 degrees (baby monitor had temp on it) and the upstairs master felt at least 10 degrees hotter. We did contact the host about this and tried everything he said but it unfortunately didn’t do much. I did mention to him that I thought it would be beneficial to at at least another unit up stairs since we seem to be getting warmer each year to which he did agree that it is now needed and planned to add.
I can’t say anything for the trampoline we didn’t even go look at it.
Lastly, I was throw me off that checkout instructions were only provided over the phone and I couldn’t find in writing to reference this anywhere (online listing or in print at the house). I can only hope I wrote down enough information for myself that we did all was needed and nothing was missed.
We did enjoy the peace and quiet! And all agree it would have been a lovely stay if we didn’t have the horrid 114 temperatures to contend with.

Hot, dry August. We did enjoy the cabin. A few potential issues to be aware of:
-25+ wood beam/dirt steps to 10 ft dirt/rock landing to 4 additional steps on to the deck. This is your route for loading/unloading/going to and fro. Unlike the photos, the owner does not allow you to drive up to the front deck. There is a padlocked gate barring any vehicle from going past the staircase. The staircase was difficult for my 70+ year old mom and a nuisance for my 45 year old husband lugging our suitcases. Only way to avoid the stairs is walking around the gate, half-way around house on the long, dirt, sloped driveway. I’m hoping the owner updates his photos to accurately reflect the parking and cabin access.
-There is a black/white cat that loves the deck. Our dog would peek through the drapes on the window doors and bark at the cat.
-Burrs! While trying to walk the property, burrs stuck to our shoes, socks, pants, and our dog.
-Sloped property. The dry leaves made the sloped areas slippery. Not much flat land at all.
-Trying to walk the property or game lands with my kids was tear-filled at times because of the burrs and slippery slopes. It didn’t bother us adults that bad but is a consideration for kids. The game lands trails don’t go very far.
-Reminder, photo of clawfoot tub with shower head and shower curtain is a bath-only bathroom. Shower upstairs not permitted.
-Downstairs shower has a clear-glass window at waist-high looking out to nature, trampoline, driveway, staircase, etc. We chose to block the lower half of the window for our comfort. The owner expects the user to squeegee the shower glass sliding doors after every use.
-The trampoline netting has sagged halfway down the poles.
-Nude art pieces in upstairs bath and master can be covered by linens.
-What did we love? The log cabin atmosphere, ample amenities in the cabin, access to tourist locations (Historic Columbia, Moaning Caverns, downtown Sonoma, Jamestown 1897 Railtown, Calaveras Big Trees), ping pong and pool, nice appliances, most everything we needed for our stay, sightings of deer and wild turkeys, miscellaneous toys for kids to play with, and comfortable beds, couches, and dining.
-Overall, difficulties with outdoor space, but overall for the price, comfort, and local field trips we enjoyed our stay. We also had good communication with the owner.

Interesting Cabin & expansive property with fun activities for kids. Super quiet and quite a ways up a gravel road. A/C downstairs only but works well. Owner gives very good instructions. Kitchen is large and is stocked with the basics for cooking. Very close to historic Columbia. Fun experience!

Great family place near Columbia
The log cabin is rustic with beautiful views. There are two bedrooms and a bath downstairs and an upstairs pool table/ping pong table room and a king sized bedroom.
The large kitchen had everything we needed for meals. The laundry room has a great washer dryer.
Internet good throughout the house. We didn't use the TV or gaming stuff, but it was all there.
The trampoline was great, treehouse and running around areas terrific as well. The kids loved it.
The best part was the location near to Columbia State Park.
We had a great time.:)

Family Visit
Our children and grandchildren live in Jamestown and Sonora. The purpose of our visit was to spend time with them as we live in Southern California. The cabin itself is beautiful and comfortable and we found it to be more than we anticipated. The property offers much opportunity for children to have fun and is an amazing place to build memories. While my husband and myself were the occupants our adult children ages 32 and 40 spent much of their days there with us and our grandchildren ages 2-16 had tons of fun together. This property was perfect for our needs and had our needs been different they would have been met and exceeded as well. I am already sharing our experience with co-workers and anticipate more visitors to this location.

When can we go back?!
Our children (8, 5 and 2) have asked too many times to count when we get to back to the cabin. It was everything as advertised and then some. We will definitely go back! Beautifully maintained property, extremely communicative hosts, and a great place to get away from it all.
