About this cottage rental
Walk out your front door (or sit inside) and enjoy views of Garrett Bay. Death's Door Bluff is to your left and Washington Island to your right. Your own small pier is directly in front of your own private retreat. First floor one bedroom/one bathroom with steps to a loft that has another sleeping area. There is outdoor sitting and viewing space both by the house and down on the pier. Boat tie ups on the pier for docking your day fishing/recreational boat (no overnight docking available). The cottage has a well equipped kitchen (refridgerator, range, toaster oven, coffee maker, electric skillet and full size webber grill) and all the amenities for a quick vacation away from life (towels, beach towels, beach chairs, cooler, linens, paper products and soaps/shampoo). Pelicans fly in over the bay, fishing off the dock is best on the bay for bass, views cannot be beat. Gills Rock and ferries to Washington Island and the Shoreline restaurant are a mile around the bluff. Ellison Bay with restaurants, coffee shops and a well-stocked "Pioneer Store" is a short two miles away. Come enjoy one of the most beautiful bays in Door County!

Enjoyed the view, fishing, and the location.
Recommend upgrading furniture and decor as it is dated and/worn.
Pls identify or mark kayaks that are noted in the description so they can be used without disturbing others.

Lovely location and host. Beautiful views. Opportunity to use their kayaks on Lake Michigan but check to make sure equipment has plugs so you don't take on water.

My family of 3 (and our pup) had a wonderful time at this cottage. The access to the water and its location were awesome. Upon entering the cottage, the clean smell of bleach and disinfectant made me feel that great care was taken to make sure it was ready for us. Jen was a great host! I'd love to rent from her again in the future!

We absolutely loved our stay. Property was nicely maintained, the area was extremely dog friendly and it was so relaxing. Being right on the
Lake was perfection!

Very nice. Quiet neighborhood lovely view of the bay. Jen is a great host. My companion stated that the only thing he could find disappointing was that the furniture could use some up grading. The shower that I thought might be a problem was easy to figure out.

It was a beautiful and private setting. We enjoyed our stay and will likely be back again.

Wonderful break from the city. Lived up to the description.
Truly enjoyed ourselves

Let me start this review by stating that we have stayed at a few rentals in Door County and elsewhere over the years so we are not new to this. Based on the location, amenities, reviews and pictures we (4 adults) rented this cottage for 3 nights. Temps were in mid-80's when we arrived late afternoon, unfortunately the cottage was stuffy and like a sauna. We found the "a/c" standing unit upstairs in loft area and turned it on. Found a standing tower fan in lower bedroom, turned it on, closing all windows. Went out to eat with the hopes that it would be much cooler when we got back at 10:30/11:00pm. Not the case. Too hot for sleeping in the loft area so young couple slept on a broken futon in living room. Texted Jen in the morning after we found out the "a/c" wasn't even vented to the outside! Why was the exhaust hose duct taped to the wall??? The bathroom is a whole other issue. Yes, a pump issue was mentioned in reviews but we had no idea that it would have to be used frequently when showering. Very inconvenient. As mentioned in reviews the place is cute but needs some cleaning touch ups. This is a beautiful spot, the view is as you would want on the water in Door but the view isn't everything. We've never left a bad review but it was such a disappointment regarding our comfort level that we felt it had to be stated.

VRBO pictures did not do the property justice. Much more roomy than pictures show. Nicely furnished but needs upkeep for the money spent. Floor boards upstairs are rotting and have holes. Refrigerator froze items. Bin in refrigerator was low and opened from the bottom...hard to access. Knives provided were not sharp. TV is much too small and programming was not free. Hot water in the kitchen was not always available. Lighting could have been brighter. Couldn't light the outdoor grill.
The place was airy and had lots of natural light. Good view of the water. Nice yard. Beds were comfortable. Linens were clean and soft. Communication with the owner was excellent!!

Excellent view and location. Close to great hiking and golf.

Wonderful cottage, and the best view! Very comfortable and great host!

Great location...why 4 stars and Not 5??...luck of the draw but we got the week when the main house was having major landscaping done(noisy and workers -not very private)...would of been nice to experience this setting without the commotion...

The property is called "The Rest" and that is what it is. It is a great little place far enough outside the usual DC attractions to be so quiet and peaceful that it is a escape in itself, but within a short drive of anything you might want ti do in DC. The views were amazing and I hope to return someday when the Canadian wildfire smoke has subsided.

A simply lovely spot in one of my favorite places on earth!

I loved the location, access to the water, view, clear communication from the host, and it was VERY well stocked.
The host, who lives next door, described to me perfectly where to kayak within the bay to see a shipwreck & let me use one of their kayaks to do so. That was very cool to see!
The only things I would change would be to switch out the furniture for more comfortable pieces & use less harsh lighting (or add dimmer switches). There wasn't a comfy place to settle in & read a book or watch the waves - all of the furniture is very stiff. The beds are also very firm & the lighting is very bright & harsh. We unscrewed a lot of lightbulbs to make it cozier (but screwed them all back in before we left). Just a few tweaks to the furniture & lighting & this would be a very cozy place.
There's a pump that runs when you flush the toilet. When you take a shower you have to stop occasionally, lean out of the shower & manually hold down the button on the pump to drain the shower. It's quirky, but we were okay with that. The pump is very loud, though, and is on the other side of the wall from the main bed, so we had a no-flush rule while the other person was sleeping.
My husband loved the loft to use as a yoga studio.
Overall, we really liked our stay, but with a couple of tweaks it would've been perfect.

This home is everything that the reviews have said and more. Definitely a 5 star.

Jen was an absolute awesome host. The cottage was cute clean andperfectly stocked. Loved the water access and amazing view. Will definitely be back.

This cute little place had everything needed for a mother daughter weekend in door county! We were usually out during the day but we loved coming back to the cottage to have a fire and enjoy the water! Perfect access to water and view of the sunset. Also a great place to enjoy coffee in the morning! Added bonus that we were able to use the owners kayaks. The cottage was clean and well stocked. Jen was there if needed and very nice. Would highly recommend staying here!

Location is outstanding, but some upgrades to the interior are needed. This includes the area rugs which looked old and need of cleaning. The pump for the toilet, sink and shower drain took a little getting used to.
We would stay here again mostly for the location right on the water.
The host greeted us when we arrived and was very friendly.

Nice little cottage on the water. Everything you need for a quiet getaway. Host was friendly and accommodating.
4.9
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location was excellent for us being on the water with a nice size yard - so quiet and peaceful. The cabin is clean and well equipped with everything we needed. The host is very responsive, though reading instructions, everything we needed to know was clearly communicated.
4.9
We enjoyed our stay! Great location and very pleasant renters. Close to plenty of activities and restaurants but away enough to enjoy the peace and quiet.
4.9
Would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for peace and quiet but close enough to everything Door County has to offer. House was clean, well furnished and picturesque.

This property is on the lake and includes a private pier. The cottage had everything we needed and was an easy drive to most local attractions. Would certainly stay here again.

Only stayed 1 night but found the Cottage very inviting. Our host had the fire in the stove going when we got there which was very nice. Everything was there that we needed. The TV was very small but we enjoyed the games they had which was better. The bed was a little too firm for our preference but the coverings were very comfortable.
The cottage was decorated very nicely and created a nice atmosphere.

We loved our stay. Lovely, quaint, quiet cottage on Lake Michigan. A perfect getaway.

This little cottage was truly wonderful! The location could not be beat- directly on the water (which is crystal clear!), large yard leading to a private pier, and with the bluffs to the left and Washington Island in the distance to the right. Even with so many things to do in Door County, we found ourselves instead wanting to spend most of the first day just enjoying the beauty at this property. It was quiet and serine, and we enjoyed fishing, a bonfire, and just relaxing. There was a small beach area by the "main house" that our dog got to dip his feet in, and the stars on a clear night were nearly unfathomable (you need to see them to appreciate what stars can really look like in a setting like this).
The cottage itself was adorably quaint, in a most lovely way, with a queen bed in the main bedroom, a kitchen complete with very appreciated fridge, microwave, table, utensils, etc, a cute and cozy living space, and a loft upstairs for additional sleeping. They recently got starlink internet and it was super fast for the area. We wanted to plan some activities, so it came in handy for sure!
To say we enjoyed our stay is an understatement- it was so relaxing, so tranquil, a great blend of rustic yet modernly comfortable, remote yet close to so many destinations you find yourself drawn to in Door County. I almost don't want to tell everyone how much we enjoyed it, but that would be for selfish reasons, as we'd like to keep it a hidden gem.
Cons- I guess if you want to be right in the thick of Door County, this would more remote in lodation, but again, it is quite reasonable to reach even the more southern wineries within less than an hour. This "con" was our "pro", as the lack of hustle and bustle, and the absence of crowds allowed us to really enjoy a most relaxing time.
Thanks so much for hosting us. Gus (our corgi), my boyfriend, Justin, and I had a very enjoyable time.

We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed the waterfront incredibly. Other reviewers warned of the strange drain pump for the shower, so we went in expecting something odd. The pump is very loud. Anyone sleeping in the bedroom adjacent to the bathroom will definitely hear if anyone else uses the bathroom in the night. Cottage was very clean and was stocked with kitchen supplies. We took advantage of it and cooked or grilled most of our meals. Beds were definitely firm, likely the firmest we’ve ever slept on. Other reviewers complained of the internet, but we found the router partially unplugged the first morning When we corrected that, we had no problems with WiFi . Overall, a nice place to enjoy the water and to unwind.

Relaxing stay, beautiful water view.

Jen is a super host and we so appreciated her. The property is darling, perfect for our stay. Prime location to everything Door Cty has to offer! Would stay again. Thanks again Jen

Jen was great as a host and we loved our stay at The Rest! Door County was a blast and we really loved coming back to the Vrbo after the daily activities. Went out on the water in the kayaks and paddle board provided too, which was an added bonus. Everything about this trip was great and we would love to live exactly where Jen and her neighbors do:) Highly recommend! Thank you for everything!

What a beautiful view, and what a cute cottage. The host is so accommodating! She was available within minutes when we had a (very minor) issue. Nice, quiet neighbors, too.
I love the Garrett Bay/Gills Rock area, because it's so less trampled than other Door County communities. Yet, it's not too remote, either. Just right!
In short, I highly recommend this spot. It was everything promised, and even better!

Kind and welcoming hosts. The view is stunning and access to the water perfect. A very relaxing and cozy cottage.
