A bit of history!
The Burgundy Gate is located at the end of the former ditches of the current Saltworks Cours Victor-Hugo (former rue des Fossés) on the site of the former medieval gate of the Saltworks. It marks the official entrance to the city on the old road leading to Paris. Tourny wanted it to be an accompaniment for the Place Royale (now Place de la Bourse) and consecrated it to Prince Monseigneur the Duke of Burgundy on 24 January 1757. It was for a time the Porte Napoléon to celebrate the Emperor's arrival in Bordeaux in 1808.

It was a wonderful stay. Such a gem in terms of location, proximity to tram, and the view!! Plus for three adults, it was a luxury to all have our own rooms and bathrooms and access to a washer and dryer. It’s not fancy but it has everything we needed and we would happily stay there again.

Nice location, and spacious apartment. Lots of stairs and the property is somewhat old, tired and noisy.

Perfect location. Lots of space. Comfortable beds each with own bathroom, but the sink in one en-suite didn’t work and wasn’t fixed while we were there. Not enough comfortable seating in living area. Dining table for 4. Not enough chairs for more people. Only 3 mugs in kitchen - inadequate for larger group. Coffee percolator did not work on induction hob but coffee capsule machine worked. Difficult to open velux windows in upstairs bedroom. Low doorway to upstairs bedroom - beware hitting your head. Only 1 set of keys.

The property is in a very good location for tourists. The only minor downside was the combination of 3 flights of stairs and 4 seniors. Very comfortable accommodation.

The property is conveniently located for exploring the centre of Bordeaux and is conveniently accessed from the train station. However, it was unusually hot (40 degrees) when we visited and the apartment is not air conditioned. With the windows open at night it was very noisy as it overlooks the quai and a major tram route. There were mosquitos too. I’m sure these would not be issues in cooler weather but when it gets hot this is not a comfortable location.
