This historic house at the end of a street in Fort Davis is on the historic register and rightfully so. The house was very tastefully decorated, the Kitchen fully equipped, and the setting near Fort Davis National Historic Site was perfect if you want solitude and be close to Nature. The Owner and her Property Manager were very responsive to questions and very accommodating. I thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

Beautiful house with great amenities (even a well stocked bar) pretty porch and an unique area of Texas. An added plus the house has an easy to moderate hiking trail with boulders right in its backyard. The hostess was very welcoming and informative.

Great experience in Fort Davis. Stayed 4 nights. Very comfortable beds. Beautiful historic home. After days of hiking we thoroughly enjoyed relaxing with a drink on the front porch rocking chairs or reading a book in the hammock.

Nicely decorated historical home, with wood floors (that creak a little). Great walking area with wonderful scenery and lots of birds, roadrunners, squirrels, etc.

Comfortable, well styled house in the midst of Ft. Davis/Marfa/Balmorhea
This is a really lovely house with everything in kitchen, baths, games, etc. Pretty artwork with a mixture of antiques and more modern pieces. Lots of space but floors are creaky so don’t expect for anyone to sleep in in silence. Room outside for kids to roam. We did a trail ride at Prude Ranch, McDonald Observatory, scenic loop, Fort Davis Rock Store and then spent a day in Marfa at Marfa Maid Goat Dairy, etc. I did feel like this area requires a bit of advanced planning to find fun stuff to do with kids so keep that in mind.

One of the best properties we stayed at
Extremely well-restored old house. Feels genuinely authentic. High-end appliances seamlessly blended with period furniture. Very well-keep place, friendly and attentive host. Highly recommend.

Nice middle ground in a peaceful town
Thank you so much allowing us to stay in such a beautiful place. The details inside the house made us feel at home and welcomed with Christmas three. The house had everything that we needed, from flashlights to kitchenware and toiletries. We used the blankets already provided to watch the stars, and we enjoyed a glass of wine (also provided) on the front porch. I would love to come to this house with my family for a longer period of time.

Wonderful place to relax
We were able to prepare and enjoy an entire Thanksgiving dinner with ease. The kitchen is well-stocked as is the rest of the house. Our family enjoyed an evening of poker around a lovely old gaming table. We watched movies in the living room and ate our meals in the dining room on a beautiful table. It’s an easy place to stay! Our only difficulty was the fact we kept tracking in the prickly burrs from outside that coated the bottom of our feet. Once we realized that was happening, we established a shoes off at the door policy. Overall, we had a great 4 night stay.

Lovely Historic Home
We thoroughly enjoyed our getaway to Ft Davis. The property is pristine and peaceful. We enjoyed our time rocking and relaxing on the front porch, the lovely views of the night sky, and the antics of the Aoudad on the cliffs behind the property. Absolutely loved it! Highly recommend!!

Beautiful house!
This historic home, situated right in the heart of Ft Davis, is exquisitely decorated and maintained. It was so spacious and comfortable for our party of 4 adults and 1 child. I appreciated the attention to detail that was put into every corner of the house, right down to the selection of interesting books on the shelves. This is a gem of a rental if you ever come to Ft Davis!

Spring break under the stars
This beautiful historical home on the edge of town was the perfect place for us to stay. We visited the Mcdonald observatory, Ft Davis mountains state park, Madera canyon, Museum of the Big Bend, and more in easy driving distance from the home. Ft Davis itself was a cute little town which we enjoyed exploring. With only 2 bedrooms, my daughter slept on the sofa bed which made the living room crowded, but we spent most of our time outside or playing cards at the card table so it was ok. Kitchen had everything you could need. Nice new W/D. Overall a wonderful rental.

5000’ above stress level
A wonderful place in the world. The home is fully equipped with modern conveniences and great internet. We would walk into town or just sit on the front porch enjoy the incredible Fort Davis weather.

The view!
We enjoyed every aspect of our stay, especially the views. You can sit on the front porch or out in the back at the picnic table and enjoy the glorious views and wildlife. I was a little worried with all of the steps because I was traveling with someone older and that uses a walker. The house has a side door into a small fenced in yard and that door only has 2 steps with a fence right next to the steps that someone can hold on to while going up or down. I highly recommend this property.

A lovely historic home
We rented this historic home to meet up with family we had not seen and escape for a long weekend. The house is located in a very quiet area. A really wonderful house full or charm and history. We drove to Big Bend State Park and hiked one of the days of our stay. Big Bend is a little distance from the house, but well worth the drive and accommodations are sparse in close proximity to Big Bend. I have nothing negative to say about the house itself, only that the outdoor amenities could be better. A fire pit or hot tub would make for a great addition to the patio area. The restaurants in Fort Davis are lacking in good, quality food. I recommend you take your own groceries and liquor. I do recommend this house to those looking to travel West Texas.

Great Historic House
We had a great and relaxing trip to Fort Davis in the Grierson-Sproul house. We began every morning with coffee on the front porch. There is a sitting area in the back, where we enjoyed the view of the Milky Way at night. Over the week we stayed in the house, we saw mule deer, javelina, Aoudad sheep, and roadrunners on the property. While the house itself dates back to 1908, it has all the necessary modern amenities, including wi-fi. Great guest home!
