The view on the ocean and the proximity to the beach. We saw the best sunsets of our lives.

Great location, facilities, and the room was better than expected. Alfonso is a great staff
member, he greeted me after hours due to a late check in and showed me to my room and gave me a walk through of the place.
There wasn't anything to dislike. All was good.

My friends and I were very eager to go here, when we arrived, we left our personal belongings in our rooms, asuming things were going to be safe there. Went to the beach and when we got back, all my cash had been stolen, I kindly asked the receptionist to look for the cameras and check who had been in our room and they didn't follow up nor showed concern regarding guests safety. My friends coming from London and Germany were afraid their room might get mugged as well because they had their passports there. It was a very dissapointing experience, I felt frustrated that no one would care, but at least I was lucky that my personal documents were not stolen. Definitely never going back NOR recommending this place until they become a safe and secure location.

The people hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. I caught a cab from an excursion and didn't have cash. The hotel was able to run my card and give me cash to pay my driver.
I didn't like the fact that the restaurant allowed dogs. You couldn't eat without having dogs at your table staring at you because of the food. I understand the fact of allowing guest to have dogs but not to the point the customer is uncomfortable.
I also didn't like that the lobby is pitch dark after a certain time at night. I think they should always have someone working 24 hours.

The bed is super comfy and it’s so nice being so close to the water. Staff were so lovely.
The bathroom needed a hook for towels and clothes.

I loved the server Oscar! He helped me so much and was very very amazing at his job! He made my stay even better. There was a receptionist with glasses that helped me also with a couple issues I had. The room was good and so was the Wi-Fi usage!
I emailed y’all the day of the 17th saying I was going to arrive late but I did not hear back. I landed and went to the hotel around 2-3 AM and was honking and making noise and NOBODY came out to help us. We drove from the airport to the hotel and went all the way back bc I had nowhere to stay! The next day I was calling to make sure what time I can get there so I can check in. But y’all was denying my calls, getting an attitude, and wasn’t responding to me.

Right in front of Olas Permanentes El Zonte you can watch a world class surf scene unfold. Families playing and spending time together. Dogs run free and everyone feels their problems no more, if only for that magical moment. The owner is a great guy and the woman who manages the hotel is also fantastic. I received terrific treatment from everyone and was made to feel very important.

As a restaurant, Olas Permanentes was great!! The food was delicious, the staff was attentive and helpful and the views of the ocean and sunsets were wonderful.
The room itself was clean but very dated (like spring break in Florida at a cheap motel). There was no pleasant view from our room (either the check in desk or the parking lot). There was only enough water per day for one of us to shower and brush our teeth. And there was an intermittent vibrating noise (like a compressor kicking off and on) all day and night that kept me awake all 4 nights of our stay. It is advertised as having a pool but “the pool” was the size of a small hot tub or kiddie pool. Seemed overpriced for the quality of the facilities.

Fantasic location in El Zonte on the right hand side of the river. The beach was sandy and big with great waves. This location is a good middle place to stay. Not a hostel, not a fancy resort, but for us just right. The restaurant and public areas are right on the beach. It was great to watch people surfing or playing beach soccer and of course play in the water overselves. You can also take surfing lessons or rent boards if you want. It was an active place, but not crazy partying or anything. Just right and fun and good food. You can walk over the river to the other side of El Zonte and there are more places. The river isn't deep but there isn't a bridge so your feet will get wet.
Airconditioning was in the room, it was clean and it had the standard cool water but we are totally fine with that in this hot weather. As someone who has a hot bath every night at home I'm not in the least bothered by the coolish water for showering or washing my long hair! If you want fancy, this isn't it.
If you love the beach and playing in the sun and good food and looking for a great place, this was it!
Nothing, we really loved it here! Its exactly what it says it is.
Garbage! They still need some help with the beaches to keep them clean so lets all pitch in. I really became aware of the plastic everywhere. Next time I will bring my own straw to travel. I know it seems silly, but when you see the amount of straws on the beach I hope you'll want to do something too!

The location is nice, the beach is right in front of the hotel restaurant. The lady at the reception was nice and friendly. She can help you set up surf lessons.
However, the hotel looks much nicer in pictures in real life the facilitates are old and dated. The food was terribly disappointing. They offered crab ceviche but it wasn’t even real crab ( despite the menu stating it was fresh crab and the fact that olas is an hotel at the beach so you expect fresh seafood). When I asked the waiter if this was real crab he said yes, but eventually the manager took it away. The good thing is that they didn’t charge us for it. I have an allergy to soy/surimi so this type of incidents could be extremely dangerous for someone with a food allergy. We also ordered a strawberry smoothie that had no strawberries. They need to invest in the kitchen as the breakfast was not tasty at all and lacked in flavor. Our room also had no toilet paper, which was unfortunate when you go to the bathroom at 11pm only to find our there is no toilet paper. Luckily, we had friends staying in another room that did have toilet paper. The main reason why this place gets a poor review was because of the barking dogs. They have 4-5 dogs which is nice but they shouldn’t be out and about barking from 10pm-6am. Our room was next to the parking lot and we weren’t able to get a good night sleep because of this. If they need the dogs to guard the hotel then they shouldn’t have a room next to the parking lot when they know the amount of noise their dogs make every time someone walks in or they hear a noise. Other hotels around the area where cheaper so we just expected higher standards based on what we paid. There was no hot water but that is too be expected and part of the experience of traveling in Central America. However, overall what we got was not worth the price.

Olas Permanentes is true to its name, the waves are never ending. This mom and pop hotel has been around for more than 15 years, but despite its time in town it has managed to keep the establishment in excellent condition. The rooms were impeccably clean, the staff were very attentive, and they allowed us to bring our 80 lb American Staffy (there is a fee but worth it). We booked last minute, we always travel with our pet so finding a place that welcomes pets his size is difficult to find anywhere. We were very pleased and will book again. Be mindful that if you book a room with a shared bathroom, you will have to share a bathroom but it is very clean and very well kept. We did not mind at all! While the beach is more for surfers, you can still get in and take a quick swim in the earlier part of the day. We found that everything from the food to the hotel was affordable, and the town of El Zonte is definitely one you will want to walk around and explore. There are several restaurants and smaller establishments you can enjoy. The owner/manager of the hotel also came up to us and asked about our experience, we appreciate the face to face engagement, and perhaps this is what has maintained this place great all these years.
Fortunately nothing went wrong during our time here. I would have to dig deep to find something we did not like.

Nice view and having restaurant access
Room was dirty, full of bugs, water sometimes runs out, check-in got delayed 3 hrs + than time mentioned. Not to mention, if you are planing to go hang out at El Tunco (highly recommend) they do not have someone during midnight to open the gate. Literally you have to slammed or scream until someone finally opens the door. Super dangerous at night.

no hot water and the room smells like wet mop, however you’ll get used to.

All the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed the beach and the food was excellent.
We were unaccustomed to not having warm water. We were told by other travelers that, It's just not a thing.

Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Not being able to speak fluent English/Spanish did not become a barrier.
Water pressure in our Room 6 for the shower and toilet bowl was so low/soft.
