The pictures are a little deceiving. The location was PERFECT, the hot tub was clean & maintained. The house and amenities were comfortable enough, but maybe not worth the price tag. We wouldn't rent this place again. The kitchen needs updating - but the bathrooms .... wow, three of the four bathrooms were so dark and dank - all three are in major need of an overhaul. It was like taking a shower in a coffin.. and if you're a lady, trying to shave lady 's downright dangerous. We collectively decided to share the master bathroom between the 7 of us. Otherwise, this place was pretty unremarkable for the price tag. Nothing awful (except the bathrooms), nothing great (except the location).

I love being in an unpretentious, old style beach house. We 7( 4 children under 11) have enjoyed staying in Gypsea Rose for the past 4 years- this year for 2 weeks. The kitchen is not for a cook- limited space but doable. The owners have been good about updating some things each year. We love how accessible the beach is.

I love the unique layout of the house, it fit our needs perfectly. Getting to just walk out the door and the beach is right there was a huge plus. We loved sitting on the porch in the evenings having a drink to the sound of the waves rolling in. We did notice the sliding door handle was broken and we couldn’t find a measuring cup. The dryer also had some kind of residue inside and it did get on a piece of clothing but didn’t ruin anything else thankfully. Overall I would definitely stay again in the future.

We loved this oceanfront home. So comfortable and beachy. The sunrises are gorgeous, the beds comfortable. Lots of books and comfy seating. The hot tub is amazing. The location felt central. We did trip a fuse but within a half hour of notifying the rental company, someone was there to fix it. The fuse box is hidden behind the flag hanging in the game room, in case you need to know! We also asked for the hot tub to be cleaned, and again, someone was there within the hour and took care of it.

We had a great time at Gypsea Rose! The on line photos & descriptions are accurate. The house is spacious & comfortable. It was very clean. The beds were very comfy, as was the furniture. If you like to read, bring reading lights with you. The oceanfront location was fabulous. We enjoyed the deck. One downside: We couldn't use the jetted soaker tub in the upstairs bedroom; there wasn't enough hot water to fill the tub & cover the jets. Therefore the jets couldn't be turned on. Overall the house was wonderful. We'd definitely come back. Pro tip: Order from Southern Shores Pizza.

We had a wonderful time in this house. The location is great, close to everything and the oceanfront is OCEANFRONT! The beach is right off the porch and the view from the deck and inside the house is fabulous. And it was great we could bring our dogs with us. House has an interesting layout, is well maintained and we had no complaints. There are plenty of books and games to occupy non-beach time.The only issue we had (which was not really an issue for us) was with the WIFI strength. There is a good signal in the living, family room, deck and kitchen, but there was no signal in the master bedroom and the downstairs bedroom so the televisions in those rooms we unable to stream shows. They need to install a router with better range.Other than that, everything was perfect. Thanks for a great, relaxing vacation.

We used the public access. No staples in kitchen. Other properties have had spices, salt,pepper. No instructions for use of tv. Fans and ac were hard to figure out. No electricity in the sun room. Alarm went off from uk origin.

Comfortable oceanfront home that allows pets, a big plus for us. The home was clean, not fancy with multiple levels and bedrooms. The only drawback were the decks as small children and dogs would be able to fit through the railings and areas where there were no barriers offering a escape route. This is the only reason we would not rent this home again.We prefer "flat top" homes as we like the simplicity, but they are becoming more difficult to find.

This property is damaging the good reputation of Beach Realty. We have been staying in properties at the Outer Banks for over 30 years, and have never seen a property that was so very neglected, in very poor condition, unsafe and unhealthy. There was mold on walls in general living spaces where past flooding had been, jagged rusted baseboards where children or pets could cut their feet in every bathroom, toilets not flushing properly, showerhead not attached and hanging out of the wall, and a deck and steps to the beach that were unsafe and dangerous. The splintering wood and the nails sticking up all over the deck and steps were far too dangerous, so we used the public beach access so we wouldn't have any accidents. Management DID send a very kind gentleman with a hammer to hammer down some of the nails, but it is really up to the owner to maintain the property. We paid a premium price for a substandard property.

We rented Gypsea Rose house in Southern Shores Outer Banks NC In June and in September and found it very pleasant. It is an old house compared to the many houses along the beach but it serviceable, comfortable and provided a very nice rental for the family. The hot tub was convenient and clean, and in good working shape and the older children loved it. The walk to the beach is short and accessible. Inside had most everything that we needed and in working condition. The grill was a bit worn by the end of summer but it worked well, and had a propane tank that was full to provide a few fun grilled dinners on the beach. Inside is again old with knotty pine but we liked the rustic feeling. There is a game room downstairs, and a very comfortable "apartment" as well. Bottom line is that we plan to rent Gypsea Rose again.

Vintage property oozing with charm. Close beachfront location cannot be beat. Well air-conditioned and reasonably clean. Nonfunctional in-kitchen microwave, however working unit provided in adjacent room. Otherwise, all appliances in working order. Cozy and comfortable. My family (including young infant!) loved our stay and would definitely return.

Overall great experience
The house is well represented in the online listing/photos. It is simple, no-frills, and dated but very comfortable, family friendly, and fun, with a fabulous deck, coffee station, windows overlooking the ocean, hot tub, and beachfront location that is unbeatable. The only issues we had were the slightly run down nature of the house (given the VERY high cost for the week we stayed -- and we stay at 5 star hotels quite often) and that the dryer was broken (per the agency) for the entire stay. This was only problematic for us since we packed light, planning to use the laundry at the house.
All that said, we would go back to this place in a heartbeat -- super fun place and on the beach -- but would not pay the same rate for it.

Overall, we had a nice stay. The location was excellent, but the house was older and smelled musty. We had issues with the dryer (it didn't work) and the door leading out to the back deck (was very difficult to close). I was disappointed in the bathrooms, especially the one in the downstairs suite where my family slept. The showers were very tiny and the bathrooms didn't feel clean. Many of us showered in the outdoor shower because of this. The upstairs bedrooms seemed nice and the furniture was comfortable. We enjoyed the large dining room table and the larger family room. If we stayed again, it would definitely be for the location, which can't be beat.

This was our family's fifth consecutive year renting here. We love that it is spacious, yet cozy so that family has a good combination of private space and gathering space. The new computer "bar" at the back window that overlooks the beach was wonderful! We appreciate the easy transition from the house to deck to beachfront. Happy that we can have our dogs with us. We had a few maintenance issues with good response. Surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom floors needed better cleaning (front of cupboard doors and drawers in kitchen, corners of bathroom floors) but generally very clean. The sprayer you provided for the hose was very helpful, but fyi, it sprays really hard and is likely to remove paint on the deck as it didn't have a gentle spray option. We went to Tale of the Whale, artist coops, ordered Pizza Stop with fast delivery, rented bikes for riding around the neighborhood, also Cornhole. Love the turtle pond off of Circle Drive! Thank you for helping us celebrate family time again this year!

Really liked the property as far as the views/location. Outside deck area oceanfront was phenomenal...that’s where we spent much of our time. Loved the privacy of the hot tub area but were disappointed by the temperature of the water.... needed to be hotter but seemed like an older tub. The house was comfortable and a very unique setup.... could use a bit of updates in the kitchen and bathrooms. With all that said we enjoyed our week there and would go back!!!

Working with Beach Realty is difficult!
The house was great and everything reported in the listing. However, from the first day we had no hot water. I was dealing with Beach realty who kept saying someone would be there "any minute now". However, 3 hours went by and telephoned and no one seemed to know about the request. More phone calls, no one calls you back to say someone is dispatched (you get the picture). Then, they say they will credit me $200 for my hassling with this. Of course we are 2 weeks past our departure and still no credit on the account. Arggggh! i will have to call Beach Realty again. So annoying.

Spring break was wonderful
The house has an amazing location, right on the beach with its own stairs from the house. It's a short drive to Duck or Kill Devil Hills and lots of great food options nearby. The house has lots of space for everyone to spread out and hang out. The bathrooms are dated, but overall, such a great beach house!
