Vacasa is not locally owned (they are out of Oregon), and it is unclear who to call for issues. Communication from them about things pertaining to the house are minimal to nonexistent. We enjoyed our stay, the house was comfortable, but updates are needed. There is an elevator, which was extremely helpful for the older folks in our group. The rooms are laid out so that there is privacy for all guests. Perhaps also note that this stretch of beach seems to be having the most erosion issues along the Outer Banks. We were still able to find lovely spots on the beach and loved every minute, but hard to predict how it will be in subsequent years. I love Rodanthe, so that may not scare me away, but it is certainly something to consider when planning your stay.

We had a wonderful time. Great location for a relaxing family vacation.

Great house with few small issues. The layout of the house was great, very spacious, and excellent location to beach. Arrival time was pushed back. Didn't get into the house until 730pm so we wasted a day. Upon arrival there was no electric in one of the bathrooms. Bathroom could not have been cleaned well from previous renter with no lights to see what they were doing?? Took Vacasa 2 days to get it fixed. In the meantime, we had to run extension cords through the bathroom with lights. Not ideal! Finally it was fixed.

First, the good: The house was enormous and spaced out with hallways to rooms, so it was plenty big enough to fit everyone that joined us. The location is great, just a short walk to the beach and pier, which has a bathroom. It was also a quiet neighborhood. They provided starter items for dishwasher, toilet paper, trash bags and had plenty of dishes and utensils for a larger group. Including towels and linens was also helpful.
Now for the bad: When we arrived, it was clear that either no one cleaned or they did a terrible job. We found a clump of hair in one of the bathrooms, pee spots under one of the toilet seats, crumbs/dirt under the sofa, sand and other dirt on carpeted areas. The bar outside by the pool still had beer cans and solo cups in it. Vacasa actually texted me to check in on our arrival, which was nice, and asked about the cleanliness. When I explained what we found, she said she could send someone out to make it better. While that was appreciated, it was a bit of a pain because they came right as everyone was getting showers and getting ready for the evening, which was a couple hours after we expected them. The crew didn't have a vacuum and couldn't find one in the house (not sure who was in the wrong with that). Most of the issue was that no one had vacuumed, so unfortunately they left with that still not being done. Besides that, we found a couple of mold spots around light switches, our toilet seat lid was broken off our toilet and sitting next to it, a couple of the towel bars were either half coming off the wall or completely off in a drawer. The one sliding glass door didn't seem to lock. Our bed skirt was ripped to the point where we had to be careful to not trip over it. The worst part is that we found multiple cockroaches outside and inside the house throughout the week.
If they would make some small changes to make sure the place is kept up with and cleaned, it would be a really nice place to stay.

Walking distance to the beach and the sound. Sunrise and sunset.

Great location, great spaces, great views. Very poorly cleaned. No kitchen linens or basic supplies (salt, pepper, etc.). Many items need minor maintenance - screens are torn, throw pillows need replaced, etc. We had a great time but the lack of proper cleaning was a definite problem, especially with an infant there.

Not 100% satisfied
Two days before our stay, which was booked for over a year, they told us our place was unavailable. After explaining how upset we were, it somehow became available again. So we had a sour taste in our moth to start. There was issues with the elevator the entire time, making a constant screeching sound. Also, multiple outlets didn’t work, mostly in the kitchen.

Loved the pool & hot tub. Loved the walking distance to the fishing pier, beach, laser tag, and Kitty
Hawk Kites; where we booked a parasailing excursion in Manteo. I also loved that the accommodations served all 14 family members, there were 2 high chairs and we could eat together as a family.

Location was great! Easy walk to the beach and pier. Plenty of room for the 12 of us. Every bedroom has a bathroom. Well equipped kitchen. A couple of maintenance issues, but overall enjoyed our stay!

Sapphire Winds could be great!
First for the good. The renting and check in process was easy. The house is HUGE and has more than ample space for a large group of people. It was so nice to have so many bathrooms, and the elevator was great! The game room is great, and we loved having a covered space at the pool. The outdoor furniture is wonderful!
On to the not so great...I'd say the finishes and age of the finishes in the home makes it a 2 to MAYBE a 2.5 star hotel experience. Dollar store products (curtain rods/cutains/utencils/small kitchen appliances) used all over the home. The appliances leave a lot to be desired (at least clean the oven and stove top and replace the silver trays around the burners). There are 2 dishwashers that are older, but do work well. The mattresses are bad. They need to be replaced, but I could understand if they can't afford it. Some nice mattress toppers would make a world of difference and could mean families booking again, if they can get a better night sleep. Some general maintenance needs to be addressed. Floor boards and deck boards need to be nailed down...the couches need to be replaced, light bulbs need to be replaced, etc. The blinds are broken and filthy, unfortunately.
Lastly, I'll address the cleanliness. The usual spots (kitchen/bathrooms) were cleaned OKAY, but the rest of the home needs to be cleaned MUCH BETTER! There was hair and thick dust on window sills and baseboards. Places that most people wouldn't notice...are now noticeable because of being gross. I mention this because you're charged for a cleaning fee. Another disappointment is the fact that you have to make and strip the beds yourself, and put dishes away that the previous renters leave in the dishwasher.
Overall, we did enjoy our stay (Covid might have been part of that), but I don't think we would rent this property again. For the cost, you would expect a 4 star experience (at minimum), but they have got some work to do to get Sapphire Winds to get it to the standards that justify the cost.

Sapphire Winds
This was a nice place to stay if you want a quiet environment. I liked the little community. The only draw back is if you wanted to go on an excursion you would need to drive 30 minutes. House was somewhat clean. Trash was left on the second floor. The door handle was busted on the sliding door on the fourth floor. The table and chairs were kind of dirty. Sink in one of the bathrooms was dirty. Housekeepers took longer than the time allotted, some light bulbs were busted, but once we got over those things it was a good stay. Minor things. It was a nice bed and pillows.
