About this cottage rental
Little Haven is a beautifully presented, traditional thatched cottage sleeping four people in two bedrooms. The cottage is Grade II listed and is full of character but with all the modern requirements for a cosy stay. It's an ideal choice for couples, friends or a small family.
Guests will fall in love with Little Haven before even stepping inside: Nestled into the side of a quiet hill, the stunning exterior oozes charm while the wrap-around gardens provide an incredible vantage point from which to take in the surrounding countryside on a sunny day. The gardens are south-facing and have outdoor furniture on a top terrace where guests can soak up the sun in the summer.
Stepping inside the cottage into the kitchen, guests will find it well-stocked with all the amenities and utensils required to cook up a feast. There's a handy dishwasher and washing machine for guests' use as well. The kitchen then opens up into the main living and dining area which is perfectly designed for a relaxing time away. The exposed beams, pine doors and oak furniture make it an ideal place to sit in comfort and the large gas-burning stove in the huge fireplace will help keep guests toasty even during the coldest winter months. The cottage comes well-stocked with a selection of board games, books and maps on the local area and a DVD collection for the evenings spent indoors.
The house bathroom can also be found on the ground floor and comes with a a shower-over bath (power shower) and the traditional style bathroom furniture helps add to the cottage's characterful feel.
Up the stairs can be found the two good-sized double bedrooms with king-sized beds and vaulted ceilings. Both bedrooms enjoy countryside views across the small valley and come with plenty of storage and hanging space. The master bedroom has the added advantage of its own private wash basin.
Little Haven is situated on the edge of Alcombe, itself part of the larger town of Minehead. The local pub is only a 5 minute walk down the lane, with the local bakery only a short distance beyond that.
The cottage is perfectly located on the edge of the Exmoor National Park and is near to the starting point of the South West Coast Path - England's longest waymarked footpath which stretches for 630 miles. Inland can be found countless other footpaths making it the perfect property for hikers and dog walkers. Meanwhile, the town of Minehead offers the ideal destination for a family seaside holiday - it boasts a beautiful, long, flat sandy beach, a charming harbour, a bustling town with plenty of independent shops and cafes and family attractions.
The picturesque village of Dunster is also very close by with its splendid castle and yarn market while Watchet, Porlock and Porlock Weir are all also worth a visit, the latter being a very popular spot for crab fishing and water sports.
Little Haven has private parking bay opposite for one car. A second car can parked on the quiet street around the corner. One well-behaved pet is welcome but pets should be kept downstairs and never left alone in the property.

We enjoyed the garden, sitting in the sun and having breakfast on the upper patio. The sound of the creek and the birds was very nice, it was peaceful and quiet. Everthing was in a good state and well equipped. There was a very nice neighbour who gave some good advice.
We missed a parasol and the narrow streets were a challenge for us... some things in the kitchen were not well rinsed and we noticed a light smell of dogs...

Whats not to like! Gorgeous cottage with a beautiful ambience, lovely garden and sun deck - and a sense of warmth, homeliness and wholesomeness inside. This is our place of respite and renewal in England.
This time we noticed the TV display had something wrong - the pixels on the screen have gotten damaged. So TV needs changing.

On arrival the parking was not great and the was no prior notice that the lane was tight and the parking was only for a small to medium car not as we found out suitable for a pickup, house was clean but there was clothing for other people in the rooms and used tissue under the bed, had to clean the oven tray before we could use it and the fridge was set to high and was more like a freezer than a fridge, and there was things missing from
The property like bath robes that were in the booklet saying there should of been some provided but ok for the money

Excellent location for walks in and around Minehead with the dog. Cottage close to village pub for drinks and food.
Check out time was a little early (10am) with a SMS text at 7am reminding us that we had to be out by that timemay face extra charges if cleaner was kept waiting. Although we were out in plenty of time we still felt slightly pressured.

Absolutely excellent but we did have to clean the oven grill before using and sort out last week's recycling which had all been thrown in together.

We loved everything about Little Haven, it had so much character, was clean and comfortable and had a garden that I dream of having similar to one day! There were many wonderful walks from the doorstep and beaches just a short journey away. Perfect!

The standard of cleanliness was good, but not outstanding. The bathroom was a little cold.

My husband and I travelled from Boston, USA to come to the glorious county of Somerset and walk the moors, little lanes, woods, pubs, and villages of Exmoor. After a lifetime of reading Thomas Hardy, the Bronte sisters, and of course, R.D. Blackmore's 'Lorna Doone,' it was a dream fulfilled for me. This little thatched roof cottage has been the perfect place for me to feel as if I'm back in time. The grounds and garden are so peaceful and tranquil. Little Staunton lane was within walking distance (we didn't have a car) to Alcombe where right down the street we could get great food and conversation every time we were there. I've never met such friendly and intelligent people as the people of Somerset County! We were able to walk to Dunster and Minehead, but must give a shout out to Mark from Ava Cab Co, who took us out to Lynton/Lynmouth, Withypool (where we had lunch at The Royal Oak Inn where Dwight Eisenhower stayed after D-Day and Blackmore wrote "Lorna Doone"), the Tarr Steps, and the much photographed Allerford packhorse bridge. Jenny next door is the loveliest woman who really enjoys meeting all the neighbours who come and go. Do make an effort to visit her if she doesn't come by with a bouquet of flowers first to greet you! Also want to give a shout out to the housekeeper who came out to dry our clothes, as the listing shows the cottage has a dryer and the directions left in the appliance booklet also gave instructions on how to use it, but turns out there isn't one, so we ended up with a load of wet clothes! Thanks, Emma, for coordinating the drying.
My only suggestions would be to dust a bit better and get rid of all the cobwebs in the little corners and windows. Also, two small things that make life easier is to put a little towel rack by the upstairs bedroom sink, and get one of those wire shelves for the shower that hook over it to put soaps and shampoos in. Otherwise, it was perfect!

A lovely cottage and garden, very peaceful . Cottage was on a bit of hillside that kept us fit with daily walks also there are a few steps inside the cottage that could cause problems for anyone with mobility problems. All in all a lovely break in a nice peaceful location.

A lovely, restful break in a very nice cottage located in one of my favourite areas of the UK
Lovely location - but I already knew how beautiful West Somerset and Devon was going to be. The property is only a couple of miles from Dunster castle and village so I knew the location was going to be good! It is not often that you stay at a location on holiday and wish you could live there but I can honestly say that I felt that about Little Haven cottage - the clue's in the name!

The cottage was idyllic and so peaceful, being in the perfect place for walks straight out of the door into the woods of Exmoora very short drive to the beach. It was well equipped and full of character with a lovely sheltered enclosed garden which was safe to let our Jack Russell roam around in.
It would have been useful to have a selection of bedding as the duvets were rather warm for the unseasonably warm April we had when visiting.

Lovely cottage with garden. Looks even better in real life than the pictures. The location is great for dog walking. We had a great time. Would love to return another time.

Lovely cottage let down by declining standards of service & maintenance compared with our many recen
Beautiful cottage, well furnished with an excellent landscaped garden. Kitchen well resourced with good quality appliances.
Garden maintenance poor: it took 4 days for the gardner to visit after early contact with agents.) Cleaning was of a below average standard and certainly not of expected quality. Disappointing welcome package (1pint milk and 1 pkt cheap biscuits) and watered down soaps in old dirty dispensers were not a welcome find.
A whole day of a planned power cut (0900-1600) was not communicated to us in advance. A lack of a local contact not helpful and concerns over the immediacy of a visit in an emergency with only a London contact worrying. The Agents customer focus not up to standard compared to owner's focus by this company (read owner's reviews).
After many previous visits we were upset to note the declining standards and fear for the future of Little Haven.

Fab stay
Everything about Little Haven and the surrounding area is special. The cottage is cosy and the owners have thought of everything you might need.
Nothing I can think of.
