Joanne and Damian, who are your live in hosts, have opened up their home at St Marks Stays for groups and retreats. We are about creating a sociable experience that brings people together in the stunning location of the Yorkshire Dales and in close proximity to the Lake District.
With the perfect combination of facilities, space and location, St Marks Stays is for groups and retreats, is self-catering and pet friendly. We want you to feel a part of our home with the addition of lots of space to take time out on your own.
There are six ensuite rooms and two bedrooms that share a bathroom. Five rooms can be made up as twin, or double beds on request. One room has a bunkbed . This changes to just a double bed 2nd April 2024. All ensuites have showers and one has a bath. The shared bathroom has a bath with a shower over it.
The kitchen is the new heart of the home and that’s how we want you to feel at St Marks Stays. Our kitchen is perfect for your self-catering requirements where you can cook together, or have a chef, or caterers come in to create delicious food for you. We provide tea & coffee, seasonings & oils and kitchen equipment so you can cook on the gas hob, electric oven, or learn to use our Aga.
Our fabulous dining space is perfect for dinner parties, with large windows and patio doors offering awesome views across the hillside. There are two lounges, a real fire in one of them and a studio space that is perfect for all kinds of retreats, be it yoga, art, or business.
If you don't fancy venturing out into the surrounding countryside, then just sit back in our fabulous garden, listen to the river and enjoy the views from the comfort of the patio. Lets face it, we're right in the heart of the countryside so you can enjoy your chosen tipple, have a BBQ and then watch the sun go down over the beautiful Howgill Fells, staying warm in the evening around the fire pit and gaze up at the stars due to there being no light pollution.

After years of searching, I have finally found the ideal venue to host my wellbeing retreats. Every room is beautifully appointed with so much love and attention to detail. The location is both private and accessible and the views from the garden are spectacular. Joanne and Damian are the wonderful live-in hosts who offer the perfect balance of freedom and friendly support. I'm so glad I took a leap of faith and am really looking forward to returning again with my retreat ladies next year.

This is the second year running that I have co-hosted a Yoga retreat at St Marks Stays. All our guests loved the ambience of the house which is extremely calm and peaceful. It really is a home away from home. We enjoyed the gardens and decking as the sun shone for us. The in house yoga studio makes the space work particularly well. However, it’s very versatile house and would work for many other types of stays. The owners Joanne and Damian were very helpful ensuring we had everything we needed.

The warming homely feel throughout, relaxing atmosphere, superb views, the beautiful (yet functional) AGA, the rope swing and eclectic range of music and films.

A group of 12 stayed last weekend for a sewing retreat and it was absolutely perfect.
The house is beautiful with attention to detail everywhere and definitely home from home. There’s nothing Joanne and Damion (who were perfect hosts) haven’t thought of.
The addition of the studio was perfect as all our sewing could be done in there which left the rest of the house for us to relax/chill in.
It’s the best accommodation we’ve had and we loved it so much we booked again before we left.

I took a group of my students for a weekend yoga retreat. We had a beautiful studio on our disposal for our practice, the living room was great for our talks and workshops, and the walks our hosts introduced us to were incredible! The house is situated in a beautiful, calm and quiet part of the land, surrounded by breath-taking scenery.

Joanne and Damian have thought of and provided everything visitors could possibly need. The house that they have created is beautiful and comfortable, has anything and everything we could want, from huge amounts of kitchen equipment and crockery to films, books, maps and fluffy throws. They are delightful hosts for an amazing house.

St Marks is a really cosy venue set in a scenic valley and it was nice to do a mix of outings to local artists, a yoga session and also a walk to the nearby waterfall. The set up allows for a relaxed atmosphere which starts conversations flowing for people. It allowed people space and time away from their practice to recharge and reenergise in the company of like minded people. Many new connections were made and it was a fun and enjoyable few days away from peoples normal lives.

The hosts are so thoughtful and the venue just gets better every time we visit.
The addition of yoga props was a winner and we had a fabulous spring retreat. Can’t wait to be back in October. Thank you Joanne and Damian for creating such as special place.

There aren’t really enough superlatives to describe our 2 night stay for my 70th birthday. Damian and Joanne have clearly thought very carefully about the experience they want their guests to enjoy and it works on every level. They are perfect hosts, the house is relaxing, comfortable, spotless and beautifully decorated with delightful individual touches. We were fortunate to have sunny weather so were also able to enjoy the lovely outside space. Everyone who came was so impressed. Thank you!

The simply stunning surroundings are just breathtaking. The whole venue is furnished to a very high standard. Immaculately clean and very eco aware. A 5* experience all round.

This was a birthday celebration for 7 women (we had a room each, which was just perfect) and a dog. From the moment we arrived we received the warmest of welcomes and an immediate opportunity to sit outdoors, enjoy the late September sunshine and the views. We walked the fells opposite, walked to Cautley Spout and visited the local farm for delicious eggs and cakes, we also loved Farfield Mill. Harley our terrier had the time of his life in the garden. A really blissful stay!

We had a family holiday at St Marks at the end of July. We had a lovely welcome from Joanne and Damian when we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble for them - giving us our own space but also being available whenever needed for hints and tips.

We had a wonderful weekend at st marks for a 60th birthday. The house was large enough to have everyone together, yet still felt homely - we all commented how we would love to live there! We have stayed in a few group houses and St Marks had the most well equipped kitchen with everything we needed and more. We didn’t use the studio (apart from when playing sardines!) but it is a great space. We especially loved the garden and would love to return in summer to take advantage of it fully.

We stayed at St Marks Stays for a hen party, and everyone could not stop raving about how beautiful the house and location were. The views from every room were stunning, the rooms were decorated beautifully, the entire house was pristinely cleaned, and our hosts, Jo & Damian, made us feel completely welcome. They helped us with anything we needed, and we in no way felt as though we were stepping on their toes. Absolutely everyone loved it.

Where to begin?! We loved everything about St. Mark's. The space was perfect in size, roomy yet cosy and comfortable. The yoga studio was perfect too and versatile for any activities. The location was stunning, the walks along the valley to the waterfall were dreamy, as were the views from the dining room and bedrooms! Joanne & Damian were the perfect hosts ~ friendly, attentive yet gave us space too. Can't recommend a stay here highly enough ~ we'll be back!
