Other than a few minor concerns that have been addressed privately, this house was perfect for our family’s vacation! We have never experienced such gorgeous sunsets during our years vacationing in OBX. We were excited to have private beach access in the sound leading up to the trip, and actually found this to be absolutely crucial during our stay due to the double red flags caused by rip currents in the ocean! The kids (and adults) loved playing in the sound all week. The town is quaint and laid back - everything we were hoping for and it was a short trip to the ferry dock to spend half a day in Ocracoke. We’re looking forward to booking again!!
Note for preparation- bunk beds are no longer on site. Instead, you’ll find a full bed and a twin bed with a trundle underneath on opposite sides of that room. It still fit our needs, but we didn't expect this.

We loved this house, its location and amenities, however the "bunk beds" as pictured were really two twins and a trundle bed..big difference. And the AC upstairs barely works..only 1 vent in the main bathroom...dont cook in the middle of the day..its too hot! Bring a fan!! Also...the pool and sound access is overgrown and just wish i had known for float purposes that the sound is 1 to 2 foot deep for a loong way out. Great stay otherwise.. we had a blast! Beautiful sunsets and views!! July 2024

Well stocked home - beautiful inside.
Outside of the home needs a little care - grown up.
There is indeed a small charcoal grill in case someone else is planning. I was told there wasnt when i asked but there is.
The listing also shows bunk beds- no bunk beds
And no pool table- balls and other items for it were no where to be found
Bring a fan for the top floor. With the higher temps - it struggled to stay cool. 2nd floor would be 68-70 while 3rd floor was 77-78 during the day.
Overall a very nice stay - location is great!

Wonderful location! The house recommended some updates since our last stay. We love the waves too the little beach and the sound.

This home was clearly once a fantastic property. However, the house wasn't cleaned well and it also doesn't appear to have been maintained very well in the long-term. Many things were in disrepair - lots of light bulbs were burned out; the pool liner was worn down to the concrete which could affect the ability to use it; the kids' bedroom furniture was so rickety we didn't allow our sons on the top bunk; and the upstairs A/C obviously struggled (and failed) to cool efficiently (yes, we followed the instructions and didn't set the temperature too low). The space itself is very well planned, so it was disappointing that the house was shabby. My children absolutely loved the pool and the house is literally just a quarter-mile from our favorite restaurant. Pros: the refrigerator's built-in ice maker and water dispenser worked GREAT! Great location. Cons: everything mentioned above, plus: there were no measuring cups, the toaster was terrible, there were no full-length mirrors, there was ONE clock in the entire house that wasn't on a kitchen appliance, and there were almost no wastebaskets. Lots of little things that add up to a lot of inconvenience. Sadly, we'll be choosing somewhere else to stay for our next visit.

I could very well live here. Location in a small town, makes me want to move there.

This house is great for a family with kids/teens. It was wonderful having the sound as your backyard. Great place to kayak and relax. The view was amazing! Beautiful sunsets! You couldn't ask for a better view! Kitchen was well stocked.

We had a wonderful time! House is laid out great! It’s not perfect but having a place that rented out weekly wouldn’t be easy to keep up with some of the maintenance! We give the place 👍👍 and recommend it to anyone that doesn’t have a problem walking up stairs! We’re a family of 6. Thanks

View from the deck was nice.

I will start with the positives about this rental property. The views are amazing. We witnessed the most beautiful sunsets. We loved being able to pull our kayaks down to the water and the grandkids had a great time playing in the shallow waters of the sound. The pool table got a lot of use from us. Although the pool sticks should be replaced. Some are actually cracked.
Unfortunately the negatives outweigh the positives. This house was very dirty. The carpets are so bad they made our feet black. We had to tell our grandchildren not to play on the carpet. And to not take their shoes off. Really the carpet should be removed and replaced with cleanable flooring. The furniture was very dusty. The vents were filthy. What was very disappointing was the screens to the outdoor patios were all busted. So once the bugs showed up we would need to close out the fresh air. The couch and loveseat are so worn out. You sink so low when you sit in them. And the mattress's are in bad shape as well. My son slept in the 'kids' room with the futons and said he could barely sleep it was so uncomfortable. The extra pillows we found in a closet were all stained. The deck furniture was so wobbly, it was difficult to sit in the chairs. So many light bulbs out. Our master bathroom only had half of the light bulbs working. The kitchen had several burned out.
I will say that Vacasa was very responsive to the issues that I brought to their attention. We had 2 sink clogs and someone came out next day to unclog.
I wish I could have written a better review but this place needs a lot of work before I would consider renting it again.

Loved that it was nice house and comfortably lived in. Cute decor and very welcoming. Could have used clean bed linens, more towels. What I didn’t care for were Two bed covers had urine stains. There were busted out Adirondack chairs, a lot of charcoal grills, busted screens and floor stains. Could have used an extra pillow or two. Not sure if Vacasa is getting enough cleaners in the houses. Should maybe have a supervisor go around and sign off when a house should be ready. Not very fun to come in and have to make six beds but don’t have enough bed covers and sheets. High touch areas should also include beds. Not just kitchen and bathrooms.

Had a great week staying at the Great ‘Scape. Only main complaints were the dirty carpet and the mattresses were not very comfortable. But otherwise, it was a really nice place. Loved being right there on the sound and having a pool. Would definitely come back and stay here again!

We didn’t have one problem on our trip. It was easy from booking to checking out. The house was beautiful and clean.
4.0 / 5.0
The pros: the location of this house is fantastic, especially if you have kids or prefer to spend your time in the sound rather than the ocean. Having a small beach associated with the sound less than a hundred yards from the house is priceless. The pool was great as well - yeah the liner looks a little worn but the water was clean and we used it every day. The house also feels so secluded that you can pretend you’re the only people on the island.
Inside the house, the kitchen is well stocked with anything you could possibly need. All the TVs are smart TVs with access to Netflix, etc. The internet worked well and the washer and dryer are pretty high end compared to other places we’ve stayed. The outdoor space is really nice - the top deck stays shaded most of the day which is perfect for reading in the afternoons.
The cons: the bed in the king master needs replaced - it’s serviceable but not super comfortable. The couches in the living room are the same - clean but not super comfortable. Most of the screens on the deck doors have pretty huge holes in them and what little deck furniture there is needs to be replaced. More furniture would be nice too - maybe a porch swing or something.
There was evidence of mice in the kitchen but it was confined to two drawers and when we notified the company they immediately sent someone from pest control to deal with it. Aside from this, this was one of the cleanest places we’ve ever stayed.
The one thing that was pretty major was a large hole in the ceiling of the spare bathroom on the third floor. We had to assume no previous renters had reported it as when we notified the company they arranged to have someone come to take photos of it, presumably for repairs.
The summary of this review is that I would stay here again because the access to the sound cannot be beat. Overall the house is clean and functional. I’d love to see a new king bed, new couches, and new porch furniture if we stay here again next year.

Total relaxation, awesome views.
Our family (my husband and I and three 20-something children) stayed for a week during mid-May. We loved the set-up of the house. The top floor (which also has the large master bedroom) has a good "open concept" kitchen, living room, dining room, sun room. It was great for hanging out. The middle floor had a smaller master and two more rooms (one with bunks) that shared a bathroom. All but the "kids" bunkroom had gorgeous views and every room including the "kids" room had deck access. We had fun playing pool in the basement. And we loved the swimming pool. Even though it was not an option to have it heated, everyone was able to swim it in. The pool appears dirty but it's not - the bottom is just stained - the water was clear and clean. Nearby trees shed leaves into it but they were scooped out pretty easily with the provided nets. Watch out for mosquitoes at night and bees during the day. The hot tub heated up nicely and was and roomy enough for all 5 of us.
Overall, the home was clean. It's not perfect - it's a beach house. The carpeting was older and probably not super clean but it didn't spoil anything. We saw mouse droppings (but no mice) but there were also traps set out. Traps were empty and once I cleaned the dropping, we saw no more so I think the critters found other housing arrangements and I appreciated that the traps existed. The loveseat in living room has seen better days but it functioned. The counterpart sofa was more comfortable. The view of the Sound is obstructed by the trees when you are at the pool but both the top and middle decks have amazing views. Sunsets were particularly beautiful. The path to the small beach area was clear through the trees. We rented a kayak for the week from a local company and they delivered for free and we could launch from the beach. (Would be a bonus if a kayak or canoe came with the home.)
This home is located in Buxton which is 15 minutes from Hatteras Village one way and 10 minutes to Avon the other way. We wished more restaurants/bars had been opened for both lunch and dinner but most seemed only open for one or the other or not even at all - maybe because it was not quite "in season" for summer or because of being short staffed or just because everyone loves these big homes so much they don't leave a lot! Oh - we did use the kitchen to cook. It was great. Reviews in the past have talked about poor kitchen contents. If that was the case, it has been rectified. Lots of clean pots and pans of all sizes and a ton of cutlery. Blender, Keurig, toaster over, toaster all included. (Note one of the outlets didn't work in the kitchen but there are plenty of others) The home was furnished with a roll of paper towels and a couple of garbage bags but you'll want more of your own for a week. There were also a few detergent samples for the washer and dryer (which appeared to be very new) and plenty of soap and shampoo in the bathrooms. No hair dryers. We had enough toilet paper for the whole week - not sure if that's always the case. Bring your own spices, baggie, foil. There were also no kitchen dishtowels but there were potholders. Each TV in the house has either a firestick or Roku. Use your own log ins to get to Netflix etc. but there were plenty of free apps on them too. Also - internet access was perfect. I had no trouble with a Zoom meeting for work and our laptops seemed to work throughout the house.
Vacasa was good to deal with and were good with communication.
Again - overall, we loved this place. Reviews that I could find before we arrived were lukewarm at best so I was happy that it appeared owners had taken steps to make improvements. Thank you so much to the owners for sharing their space (for a reasonable price). We had a fabulous week.

Great Vacation Beach Home!
We had a great week stay here! We noticed that previous reviews mentioned some issues with the house (poor internet, bad pots and pans, unsafe stairs) and I am happy to report that all of those issues have been resolved! The location was convenient to get to the ocean, the grocery store, and several restaurants, there was a fantastic sunset view, and we loved being on the Sound! Highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a quiet beach vacation!

The location was great and enjoyed the privacy. Interior was nice but exterior needed some work. (did keep in mind of hellish storm week before)
Interior:
jacuzzi tub, fire place and ice dispenser did not work (we did report staff member came next day tried to fix water dispenser and outdoor lights but was unable to work on tub or fire place and had to report back to company about these issues to find out needed to done. We never heard back from the company once the staff member left.)
frying pans barely useable - oven filthy - no dish towels, dish
cloths or pot holders had to buy our own
Beds were made ahead very nice touch
linen box short two dish towels and two washcloths
issues with internet -staff did come and fixed it
rooms were dusty and needed a complete dust job
glass doors to top deck dirty on outside with a torn screen we
had to wash them ourselves to be able to view, also screen
door on 2nd level master bedroom with big hole
exterior
steps on back deck near prep station are not safe - falling apart
and too small - also outdoor light at door from game room
not working
flood lights did not work
chair on top deck not useable
Not trying to be picky but tub and fireplace were one of the major reasons we rented this house - disappointing. When we reported we were told that this had not been previously reported by any renters. Not sure who is responsible for making decisions about the upkeep/repair of this house.....company, managing facility or owner. Just wanted to let all know.

Great S'Cape
I loved the location, the view and the layout. The WIFI is sketchy at best. It took 3 days upon arrival to get it up and running at all which is a problem for me as I run a web based business. After it was running the service was slow. With WIFI on I had to stand at one particular spot in the house to even send a text message. The owner apparently has chosen to provide only the most basic TV cable service with only 12-15 channels and no premium channels at all. Again, the location, view and layout were great and fit my budget for a month long stay.

Nope.
House was nasty and the property was not as pictured. Wish we had done more research to see the awful track record of this company. We have been coming to Outer Banks for 20 years and have never seen a house so awful. We will not be staying with this company again and do not recommend spending your hard earned money on this property.

Great location
Location, sound beach, private pool, and hot tub continue to be great assets to this property. Parking can be difficult for multiple vehicles, and Internet service needs some upgrading.

Our vacation
The house fit our family perfectly. It was a very rainy week so we spent alot of time in the house. So comfort was important to us, the biggest disappointment was the furniture in the family room, when you sat on it felt like you were sinking to the floor. The pots and pans need to be updated. House needs some TLC outside. Also, one of the sites said about having an ocean view and it just has the sound view, it was beautiful none the less.

Just ok
This house has huge potential. Unfortunately it is not up-kept. I had to cut down Virginia creeper in order to get to the beach on the sound because it is so over grown with it and couldn’t get down without getting it on you. The property is covered in trash including a screen from a window up in the tree. For the price it just isn’t super nice like many of the other homes we have stayed in down there.

Just needs a little more love
Loved the area and the house was okay. As the title goes, it just needs some love. The path to beach is overgrown, needs a new coffee maker, pool needs to be refinished, and pots/pans need replacing. There are complaints about the driveway, just a little soft to left hand side when pulling up to the house. Do not leave a door open by accident, the AC unit is a little undersized and can't keep up. The only other issue was wifi but thats probably not the fault of the owner but of the internet provider.
