We're delighted you found us and would love a moment to share what's unique about this home!
DENISON HOME HISTORY
The history buff in you will love the antiques and original features that pay homage to Mystic's maritime heritage~ nautical murals, wide-planked floors, a beehive oven, square headnails, period trim, and a large center chimney that powers five working fireplaces!
The 1784 Denison Home was built by John Denison, a prominent family name who settled in colonial Mystic, CT. Mr. Denison was a hat maker by trade (or did he ever become a "mad hatter"). The 1st floor was most likely a hat store while he lived there.
After various owners, Charles Vincent purchased this house in the 1960s and turned the first floor into the Old Mystic Bookstore, and when he turned 80, he sold it and moved to Maine~ he specialized in obscure 1st edition books and maritime maps, housing over 20,000-30,000 pieces. The locals remember the bookstore well and said you could hardly move through the rooms as books and maps rambled along on all surfaces from top to bottom, but Vincent always knew where his books and maps were when a customer put in a request. You can still see his maps preserved in the front hallway to this day!
This wonderful home was then renovated into a bed & breakfast and ran as the Old Mystic Inn for 33 years until 2019 when Michael, chef and last innkeeper, served his last guests his famous scrumptious breakfast.
This dear antique house has much history and many stories to tell over its 250 years and is meant to continue to open its doors to visitors who desire to experience a piece of that history, too! If only walls had ears, imagine the stories they could recount~ perhaps you can listen and hear the walls whisper words of the past!

Our second stay. Everything and everyone was as good as it gets. A fabulous home in Historic Mystic.
An experience one should have if given the chance.

Our family had an amazing week's stay at this property.
The beds were super comfortable.
The theme was very patriotic, and we loved the antiques.
The kitchen was well stocked. There were a lot of little touches that made the stay extra special. The house was very clean. I can't say enough good things about our experience. We spent a good amount of time outside enjoying the firepit and playing cornhole.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience, Debbie and Paul!

6 of our family spent a weekend in Mystic and stayed at the 1784 Denison Home. Can't say enough about what a nice stay we had. The house is a fantastic combination of historic but with all the modern amenities. The maximalist decor embraces colonial/nautical New England to the hilt with so much to look at and read. The outdoor space is amazing - fire pit, 2 hammocks, big picnic table. We played a couple rounds of cornhole but didn't get to bocce or croquet (many other indoor games too). Beyond all this, the little extra touches were what really made it. Bedside chocolates, bottled water... If you forgot toothpaste, no worries. Do you like to brew a pot of coffee or just one pod - they've got both. I won't give away what the welcome gift was but know it was delightful. Deb was a great communicator and very helpful along the way. Will absolutely recommend this place to others!

They say a picture says a thousand words… but in this case a pictures(s) cannot say enough! What an absolutely picturesque “Hallmark movie” (what our family called it) in Old Mystic… when I say the house is even more adorable in person - I mean it!! But it’s not ‘just an adorable Hallmark Movie house’ in the ideal location from everything in Mystic… the hosts are honestly THE BEST hosts on VRBO (or anywhere) that our family has encountered- and we’ve traveled as a family to many destinations in many states as well as abroad. Debbie’s detailed guide of the home and the area is outstanding… she’s has gone to great lengths to make sure her guests feel truly “at home” during their stay- not only in this gorgeous home itself- but in the town of Mystic. She always welcomed our questions and never made us feel we were bothering her… she even checked in with us during our stay (nothing obtrusive) which made us feel like guests she truly cared about. Our family of nine (ages 20 to 66) had more than ample room to have our own spaces if we wanted it - or to gather together to build a puzzle or enjoy lengthy conversations over breakfast… or play Scrabble and Dominos by the fire in the main great room. It was the absolute perfect ‘home away from home’ to gather over Thanksgiving day and week!! From the Christmas lights in Old Mystic Village Shoppes… the Lighted Boat Parade the day after Thanksgiving… to the Lobster Trap Tree in Stonington- it was ‘Hallmark’ Thanksgiving!

The hosts were communicative and did everything to make our stay comfortable and welcoming. The house is filled with Americana antiques, yet it is very livable.
We rented the entire home for a week for our family. The location is great and there is a little playground across the road from the home for the children. Each room was tastefully decorated and there was ample room for family gatherings. The long dining room table proved perfect for meals, games, and conversation.
I especially loved the gazebo in the garden as it was a place for quiet reflection and beauty.
The hosts attended to details many hosts ignore. For example, an apple pie was there for us on our arrival. The bathrooms had toothpaste, brushes, and travel amenities, things only 5 star hotels include now.
The murals on the walls were spectacular and well worth viewing in the common areas and in the bedrooms.
If I could I would give this VRBO and its hosts ten stars!

Lovely interesting historic home with every amenity you could wish for in a vacation rental. The owners go all out to anticipate every need. From water and chocolates in every room to toothbrushes, Qtips, razors and toothpaste ...etc. All the beds and pillows were very comfortable and had very nice quality linens. There was a delicious pie that greeted us. Walking around the house with white socks confirmed our opinion of how clean the house was. The outdoor areas were very inviting. Located in a beautiful area of Old Mystic with hiking trails close by. The hosts were friendly ,gracious and easy to communicate with. We enjoyed our stay very much!

This charming historic home may not be what first comes to mind when you think "vacation house," but our three generation family enjoyed it a great deal and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Lots of very pleasant bedrooms and bathrooms with plenty of common space. We'd have breakfast coffee around the long wooden table adjoining the kitchen, drinks on the side patio with lots of seating, using the grill every night, and dinner under the umbrella at the large square picnic table. We also played bocce and corn hole, and a few of us dozed off in the hammocks. The hosts have everything the way you would expect it and even provided an apple pie for our first night's dessert! Well done Debbie and Paul!

My wife and I both turned 80 this year. Although we live in SC, our children decided to celebrate our birthdays with a party in CT. We invited our siblings from IA, GA, VA and KY. The 1784 Denison Home was perfect for our reunion. Our hosts were fabulous. Not a single detail was left unattended and Debbie and Paul were in constant touch in case we needed anything. The home was exactly as described and was a wonderful place to stay. We heartily recommend the 1784 Denison home for family vacations in the Mystic area. We are looking forward to a return visit.

We were having a Celebration of Life at our own home in Old Mystic and there were way too many guests so we rented the Denison House which was close by for 9 of us and it was perfect! It was half a mile from our own home and even closer to our favorite breakfast spot. There was ample off-street parking for the five cars. The whole house is beautifully decorated with colonial furnishings. Each room had its own bathroom which is always nice even with family. Debbie annd Paul have thought of everything - bathrooms totally full of soaps and tissues and anything else you might need. Each morning we made coffee and sat out on the sunny, quiet deck to catch up. It was just lovely. While we were too busy with family activities elsewhere to enjoy the grounds we were so tempted by the firepit surrounded with Adirondack chairs, multiple hammocks and bicycles for a trip down River Road. We will definitely be back.

My new husband and I rented the Denison Home to spend time with family members during our intimate wedding celebration.
A total of 8 adults and an infant stayed here for 2 nights. Following our beach ceremony and dinner reception, we gathered at the Denison Home for our cake cutting ceremony. It was PERFECT!
There are not enough accolades to accurately describe how each of us felt staying at this magical place filled with history. It was like staying at a museum. Everyone was entertained as they explored the artifacts, antiques and murals. Debbie (and Paul too), the owners, thought of every detail to make us feel welcome and help us thoroughly enjoy our stay (from the warm apple pie, to the Pellegrino water in every room, as well as extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, coffee, hot cocoa, board games, etc, etc etc...) The home is spotless, inviting and beautiful. None of us wanted to leave. One of the best and most interesting places we have ever stayed. We will definitely return!!! Thank Debbie and Paul for providing us and our guests with such an enjoyable and memorable experience! Jacqueline and Bruce

I can't say enough good things about this property and Debbie. First, the property is spacious, the outside areas were perfect for gathering with friends on a beautiful spring day, there is plenty of parking, the beds are very comfy, and the kitchen is well stocked. The historic nature of the house and how well it has been preserved adds so much to your stay here. It's also in a perfect location for visiting all the sites in Mystic. Finally, the owner Debbie was so welcoming, even providing our group with a delicious treat upon our arrival! She provided very clear instructions for everything and checked in several times to make sure our stay was good. I would not hesitate to stay here again, and I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Mystic.

Our family had a wonderful stay at the beautiful historic 1784 Denison Home. The home was decorated with unique period furnishing and many interesting time pieces throughout the house. Our host Debbie supplied the house with items that give it a warm inviting feeling. A delicious apple pie was placed on the table for us when we arrived. Each bedroom had beautiful bedding and plenty of towels in the bathroom. The space in this house was wonderful for our family weekend. The private yard is also a great space for children with a public playground in walking distance. There is also a nice deck with a propane firepit and a wood burning firepit in the back yard. The house is close to Mystic Village and the Mystic Sea Port. Great location for vacationing in Mystic.

Several of my knitterly buddies have been getting together around Mystic for a few days to reconnect, knit and laugh, helping us get through winter in the northeast. This house accommodated us well. There was lots of comfy furniture and lamps that we could move to meet our needs. Debbie was very accommodating and answered my questions promptly and made helpful recommendations. She takes her role as host seriously and the house was warm and inviting when we arrived—complete with an apple pie. We hope to return next year.

This was one of the best stocked houses I have rented. Debbie has thought of everything you could need, including a fresh baked apple pie and bottles of sparkling water in the bedrooms on arrival. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Debbie was so easy to communicate with and she went out of her way to make sure we had all the info we needed. This is an old house so lots of charm, but all the systems have been updated. The showers were great, which is often not the case in older homes. I highly recommend this house. It was perfect for our group of nine friends.

On a 3-week visit to the East Coast , this was our favorite stop. Host Debby left us a welcoming note and a delicious apple pie! The house was full of antiques and magical surprises for my toddler grandchildren's delight, plus all the modern amenities. There was a huge yard and adjacent park. We BBQ'ed and ate dinner outside and played with the games that were there. It was a memorable and delightful time with our host checking in to see we had all we needed!

Lifelong Friends
I cannot say enough complimentary things about the owners Debbie and Paul. We were truly pampered and catered to our entire visit. Every possible amenity was available. Their notebook filled with notes and suggestions for things to do, places to eat, etc were personal and so helpful. And we just felt cacooned in care.

Mystic Gem
Birthday celebration with family couldn’t have been better! We felt welcomed and at home as soon as we entered the property. Music playing, apple pie waiting, and personal notes to greet us. Clean, very comfortable, and a bathroom for each bedroom. The age of the home brings you back to simpler times without giving up the modern comforts of today. Debbie and Paul were excellent hosts and accessible at all times, giving us plenty of recommendations of places to eat and visit in the area too. With all there is to do, beaches, wineries, Mystic Aquarium, and shopping in the quaint nearby towns, we still looked forward to getting back to the house each day. Whether sitting in the Gazebo, playing lawn games with family, or lighting the outdoor fire, you must plan a trip to the Denison House, you’ll love it as much as we did!

The history that this property brings alive as you stay is one of a kind. From the moment the owners (Debbie/Paul) contact you, you are wisped away to a true nautical adventure. One in which you feel like you are home amongst family. From the little touches like the notes, welcoming treats, and communication to the final days of your stay - you feel like you are part of a family. Communication from beginning to end was excellent and really made you feel comfortable regarding your stay. It was a true pleasure to stay here!

MYSTIC GEM
We cannot say enough about our stay in Mystic. The house is charming, and the owners gracious. Entry process was smooth, house was spotless, bedrooms are spacious, updated where it counts while maintaining old world charm. There has been a lot of effort made by Paul and Debbie to make this home welcoming.
Dining area large enough for our group to eat together even had a highchair! Love the outdoor spots , the gazebo, deck and side yard ! Played bags, croquet, Jenga, Connect Four! All the tourists attractions are close by and there is a great selection of places to eat also.
Would highlyi recommend the 1784 Dennison House!!!

Wonderful house with everything you need!
Our family had an excellent long weekend at this truly wonderful house! The house was clean and had every amenity we could need. The kitchen was stocked with the essentials and there were plenty of towels in the bathrooms. Each bedroom has its own bathroom which was very nice since we had a large group. The outside areas are so nice to sit out at night with very nice lighting. The kids especially loved that there is a playground right behind the house. The location to everything in Mystic can’t be beat. Debbie is an excellent host and sent us messages daily to check in and see if we needed anything. She was also very responsive when we had a question. We would definitely stay again in the future and certainly recommend this house to anyone!

What a wonderful stay!
I and two other college friends stayed at this wonderful property for a short getaway. The house is just as lovely as its photos depict - a perfect combination of authentic historical decor with every modern convenience. There was something charming to see on every wall, in every room. It was spotless, and the bedding was top-notch. The kitchen was fully appointed with anything one would need for meals. Debbie was very responsive to our questions, and was very concerned that we were comfortable and happy. We can't wait to return!

Amazing Home, Full of Character and Charm
Everything about our stay at the 1784 Denison Home exceeded our expectation. My family's "WOWS" on walking through the door the first time said it all for me. My teenagers then moved through the rooms looking at the art, nautical touches, giant pillow-covered beds, each room so thoughtfully put together and charming.
Everything was thought of, from the light music playing on arrival, the fresh pie and plates waiting on the table, the bathrooms offering packaged toothbrushes and other items should one have forgotten anything.
My 12 year old loved the gazebo and hammocks. And in the evening the board games. Few minute drive to Mystic Aquarium and all things Mystic.
The property own was wonderfully attentive, messaging on arrival and again during trip just to make sure all needs were met. Would highly recommend the 1784 Denison Home.

What a beautiful weekend in an extraordary house
I, and four couples, spent a long weekend in Old Mystic in Debbie and Paul's beautiful home, and we could not have enjoyed our stay more. The house is absolutely beautiful, very well-maintained and clean. It seemed as though every detail was considered and thoughtfully addressed. We could not have enjoyed ourselves more and will look forward to a return visit. Wishing our very gracious hosts continued success with this beautiful property.
