Great place great host great location. We loved being able to get away from the crowds to this gorgeous home surrounded by nature.

Beautiful serene place to reconnect with family and nature! We loved the amenities and remoteness of the Big Horn Lodge! Room for all of us to be together as well as have privacy. We braved some of the local ATV and hiking trails around Custer. Loved the fire pit and patio areas to congregate. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here-was a wonderful escape to focus on fun, food, faith, and family!

This property was exactly as the pictures and description said it would be and even better! Secluded, peaceful and beautiful! Our weather was perfect as well! We hiked, biked, explored, played games and just had a great time on this family vacation. We cooked at home and could eat out on the deck or patio to enjoy the outdoors even more. I thank the owners for sharing their place with their guests and hope to return in the future!

While being only 7 miles from Custer. It is a true getaway with only the sounds of nature. It's also a very nice place with 2 family rooms. Wonderful decor matching the atmosphere of the region. Super clean too.

Wow- what can I say about Big Horn Lodge? This was our first family trip (that included our now adult children) since 2015. I could not have asked for a more amazing and perfect place for our family. As incredible as the pictures are, it’s even more impressive in person. The house is beautiful, spotless, and had everything we could have possibly needed. The owners were so responsive and helpful when we had a question. The location… wow- the location. It’s so serene and private. Sitting on the deck, drinking coffee and listening to the pronghorns was surreal. This was our first trip out west so I wanted a central location so we could do day trips to many locations. This was perfect! We went to Devils Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Needles Hwy, Spearfish Canyon, Badlands, Wall Drug and so much more. My husband and son fished Stockade Lake and me and my daughter visited Reptile Gardens. We loved the Wildlife Loop and did it several times since it was so close. Being at Custer State Park made the exploring easy and convenient. I realize this is quite a long review, but I want others to know how perfect this property is. We stay at many mountain cabins and this was by far the nicest. With our children getting older, this time together was priceless. I’m so thankful for the memories all brought about by Big Horn Lodge.

Super secluded and close to nature
Wonderful property. The thoughtful owners provided odds and ends and marketing wasn’t too far away. Lots of deer and beautiful skies. Two floors with full bathrooms on each floor and a very workable kitchen. Lots of seating inside and outside. Beautiful rock gardens and scenery. Two families worked well within the space. We thoroughly loved it.

Great stay, site was “as listed”
Everything was great with the cabin! It was very clean, organized, secluded and it matched the description. I was impressed with the area and the entire stay was amazing! The check-in/out was easy. My only negative would be that Scott is based out of a remote location and if something would have happened I feel like it would have been extremely hard to get someone out to help. I would highly recommend anyone who wants a quiet secluded cabin in the Custer state park to pick this one!

Excellent Location for a Black Hills Visit!
The property was centrally located to everywhere we went! It was so beautiful and peaceful looking out at the yard or sitting in front of the fire pit. There were plenty of kitchen and laundry supplies, dishes, and cooking utensils. We were gone exploring from 9:30 in the morning until 5:00 or so in the evening. We spent our evenings playing cards at the large dining table. We really enjoyed the house and location. Thanks Scott!

Big Horn Lodge - quiet, secluded meadow and mountain view
Really loved this property, about 3 miles off Hwy. 16, French Creek rd. by Stockade Lake. By the time you drive through the Lodge gate and up the hill, you've left behind anything commercial and settled in on the beautiful Big Horn "spread." Interior is beautiful wood finish, perfect to have one family upstairs and one on main floor, each with a bathroom. Beautiful wrap-around deck, watched the deer and turkey wander by. Perfect location - we drove the Needles, bison loop, went to Sylvan Lake, Stockade, Wind Cave, Rushmore, Hill City, Deadwood and Devils Tower, all reasonable drives. Nice property.

This by far is the best VRBO we have experienced! Scott was so helpful in all ways. The property is a true hidden treasure. Will be planning a return trip here with our family.

Beautiful property!
Great house, in an even better location. Quiet and serene with abundant wildlife. Note: If you plan on doing any distant work or schooling and need internet, bring a hotspot as the house internet is not meant to handle serious streaming.

A true treasure convenient to all attractions
This beautiful lodge and property is perfectly situated to all main attractions in the Custer area. The owners of the property are so accommodating and easy to communicate with. The lodge exceeds all expectations! The wildlife on the lodge property is very entertaining. We were sad to leave and can’t wait to return!

We would give this 10 stars if we could. Peace and quiet, animals, stars and a beautiful cabin. We loved sitting on the deck at night and watching the stars. We saw deer, weasel, chipmunks, a baby snake, and even a female elk who stepped out of the woods one evening. I highly recommend hiking up the small hill behind the garage - the view is amazing. The cabin was much more then we hoped for. My hubby fell in love with the gas grill. The wildlife loop in the Custer State Park is a must for seeing buffalo, deer, etc. We saw a coyote in the park one morning. Thank you so much for sharing your home and we will be booking again VERY soon.

Beautiful views and wildlife daily. Only drawback is the five mile dirt road. Wish we knew as we were on motorcycles

Great place!
This was our second time staying at Big Horn Lodge - it didn’t disappoint. Quiet, secluded, played frisbee in the huge yard, watched stars at night, and easy access to Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore.

Perfect!
This property is pretty much the ultimate in seclusion and serenity. The home is fantastic and the property is beyond words. Bonus that the owner let us use the garage - saved my truck from a hailstorm! The owners are great communicators as well. We will stay here again in a heartbeat!

Custer Paradice
This house was exactly what I was looking for! No neighbors and peace and quiet. Sat on the porch every evening and watched deer come out of the high country and cross to the evening feeding areas. Scott was a pleasure to work with as my plans unexpectedly had changed. Can't wait to visit this true paradise !
Thank you for some unforgettable memories! Tim

Fantastic lodge accommodations
Our family of five visited the week after memorial day this year and our two young children were ecstatic when we finally arrived at the dramatic entrance gates!! The property is pretty much exactly what it appears from the pictures in the listings call Lynn clean with meticulous Decour, my favorite being a massive bison portrait on the stairs. Each bedroom has a theme and our kids were so excited that they did FaceTime with grandparents to show them around the house. The wraparound deck Has to be one of the best attributes in my opinion, plenty of outdoor seating, and the stars at night were breathtaking. Very cool fire pit area as well, which turned out to be one of the highlights for my son, sadly we could only squeeze in one bonfire night, that being the last night but it was memorable. My kids enjoyed riding bikes and exploring the property, the one disappointment I had was the ability to hike in and out of Custer State Park from the property-I was led to believe you could hike to Mount Coolidge from the property, but it’s actually all fenced off, unless I missed something as far as boundaries go. But outside of that, the property is stunning, didn’t see any wildlife on the property but it’s probably the most serene setting you can imagine, with all the privacy one would need!
I will say, although I was seeking privacy and seclusion, it did turn out to be a little bit further away from the main attractions then what I was hoping for-we attempted to ride bikes to the Mickelson Trail extension and that was very difficult for our six year old, as it’s a gravel road with some uphill grade. But if you’re driving, it’s about 12 minutes to get to the main highway and it is only 15 minutes or so from downtown Custer which turned out to be a great little town. In summary, just a fantastic VRBO property, very well-maintained, very unique and had plenty of amenities like resources for Black Hills, etc.

Wonderful home in beautiful setting
I can’t say enough good things about this home. First, the basics, it is clean, well equipped and comfortable. We cooked quite a bit during our visit and the kitchen had all we needed. The master bed was great (only one used) and bathrooms very nice. Now for the reason you really want this one; the property sits in its own private valley. We saw deer on a daily basis, as well as a marmot that lives on the property. All you see from the deck and windows is natural beauty all around. This truly is a great place to get away from it all!

Home away from home
House and property were just as explained in the online listing. Very comfortably slept eight. Comfortable home away from home living. Plenty of space to spread out and enjoy time together and apart. I would recommend this house to friends and family wanting to get together in a spectacular setting.
