Nice place for a family gathering. Lots of room, great outdoor pool, and close to restaurants and grocery stores. Kitchen is a stand-out—has everything you need!

Spacious, clean house with lots of amenities. Just like the photos. Very responsive and kind hosts! Really enjoyed our big family trip here!

Overall great time, however, there is much that needs to be improved at this location.
* Lack of window treatments, grill starter broken and no grill lighter, no fire extinguisher or fire alarms, zero shade at the pool or the deck (umbrellas are cheap!), pool table unusable - too close to wall and only one stick, ice maker dispenser broken, hot tub cover ripped and needs an arm for easy open/close, fire pit area is not level and the chairs are old and broken, shower liner in basement is gross, carpet upstairs is filthy, ceiling fans in larger upstairs about to fall off, etc. Again, overall good house but needs some work before I'd recommend this to a friend.

Brought our 4 grown children and 7 grandchildren. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The pool, theatre room and game room were big successes to all. About 15 minute drive to downtown Asheville. Plenty of room for all to be quite comfortable.

Was looking for a place for our family to spend the week together. We have grand children ranging from 1 to 21 and adults parents with all different ideas of a fun time. This area and house had something for everyone.

This home is gorgeous and very accommodating! The host offers lots of extras such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and extra toilet paper to name a few. Each bedroom was nicely supplied with linens, extra blankets, towels, washcloths, and make up remover wipes! They really go above and beyond and our group will likely return again!

Great place to be in the Asheville area especially for big groups. The place to big enough to accomodate big groups without you feeling packed together. Quiet neighbourhood if you need some peace.

We enjoyed our stay as a small company business meeting location and retreat. Great location which was convenient to Asheville.

If you have a big group, this house is for you. There is seating in the kichen to accommodate everyone. it was just my wife and I and i believe the house would actually sleep 8-10 or more, so it was plenty big for us 2. The house was exactly as described. check in was easy, and the host was great. The house was in like new condition. My only recommendation is to put a blinder of some sort up in the hot tub area. There is no privacy at all when in use. Also, possibly a wind break/curtain aroundhot tub area for the wind blowing in off the lake. The low temperature was around 40 each night of our stay. With the wind funneling through off the lake, it had to have been a 20 degree difference in the wind chill.

My family and I recently stayed at this amazing rental in the mountains. It was an incredible experience. The house was spacious and beautifully designed, providing plenty of room for all of us to enjoy. The heated pool, jacuzzi, game room and fire pit were the highlights of our stay, keeping both kids and adults entertained. The hosts were thoughtful and provided almost everything we needed. The location was perfect for exploring nature and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Overall, it was a fantastic stay and I highly recommend this property for a relaxing family getaway.

We rented this property for a long family birthday weekend.
We immediately were greeted with a text making sure we had everything we needed.
The home was well equipped with plenty of supplies and equipment.
There was lots of room for all of us and plenty to do including pool table, ping pong, fooseball, etc. The theater and seats were a nice added activity.
The pool and area are well maintained. My only suggestion would be an umbrella or two for those of us who need some shade while enjoying the pool.
We would definitely rent the home again.

If you are looking for a big home with a lot to do, this is a good start. Everything after that falls extremely short, unfortunately. The location, the view and the ammenities are great but this place is filthy and not well maintained. The entire home, especially the basement and first floor are extremely musty. The smell will sit in your nose and on your clothes, making it hard to breathe. If you are sensitive to smells, do NOT stay here. Me and my youngest are allergic to mold and we struggled in this home. A simple mold test would likely help the owners admit they have a problem and get it mitigated. The washing machine was so filthy with mildew and dirt sitting in the detergent compartment, which is why all the towels smelled like "old, dirty dish towels". The pool is also dirty and the hot tub was unusable, which really stinks when you pay to stay in a place to have these amenities. I did text and they said they have proof it was just cleaned. They may want to inspect the work that their vendors are providing because I would be irate if they did that work. They eventually offered to have the pool guy come back to clean it again, but at this point we were all disgusted. The worst part of the trip was when the two kids sleeping in the bunk beds got bed begs and spent the last 36 hours itching, which was followed with a car ride of annoyed kids. I would absolutely recommend searching for places other than this place even though the pictures are very tempting.

Property was great. Thought we would have views of the mountains but did not. Place was clean and had all we needed for a big group. Some plumbing issues in the basement bathroom that were addressed right away.
Overall satisfied with our stay.

Me and my friends stayed for my bachelor party. Plenty of sleep accommodations, games, etc... very convenient and close to everything. We loved it

Pros: Location was pretty. Kitchen is stocked appropriately. Hosts were communicative and immediate with responses.
Cons: Saying that the house sleeps a certain amount of people means that you should have seating for that many people (or close to it) in the dining room and the living room. Our family could never be in the same room together without 5 of us sitting on the floor. Carpets upstairs are not as advertised or as they appear in the pictures - disgusting. They are stained and crumpling. Beds are very old - some hard as a rock, some slept on so often you roll to the center when you sleep. Backyard is not fully fenced and under the porch is not enclosed as advertised. Our dog immediately got out of the backyard by jumping over the unfenced portion and had to go to the vet to get staples after slicing open his leg on something underneath the deck. If you don’t have a dog, the backyard is lovely. The basement bedroom was clearly a makeshift bedroom. In the pictures it appears that there is a closet in the room, but when you open it, it is a non-dead bolted door that goes into a garage filled with firewood. Creepy and odd. Every door that goes to the outside of a home should have a deadbolt on it - my opinion.
Overall - This house feels like it could be great, but feels thrown together in an attempt to charge a lot of money to a larger group of people. If money were to be put into this house to paint the walls, update the beds and carpets, etc it would be worth the money. Our vacation was incredibly expensive and I do feel that we deserved more from a house that was that expensive. We would not rent again unless improvements were made.

I don’t have extremely high expectations for rental properties because I’m certain it’s difficult to keep up with the hustle of constant renters in and out of the home, but the cleanliness and upkeep of this property was subpar. My husband and I rented this home for the weekend for us and our family (our two adult children and their families, my mom and dad, and our daughter in law’s dad). The size of this home was very accommodating and worked great for our family, but we couldn’t eat a meal without gnats swarming our face. We purchased a cookie cake for our daughter’s birthday and had to throw the entire thing out, before ever slicing into it, because the ants had taken it over. (The countertops are black, so we didn’t even notice them until we opened the box and they were everywhere.) We couldn’t sit anything on the kitchen counters without it being overrun with tiny ants and gnats. I even put a gnat trap by the sink to help eliminate the amount to make it more comfortable, but it barely made a dent in the frustration. The basement smelled of mildew, the vents in the ceiling were coming loose, the bedsheets smelled of dried sweat and I even had a black spot on one of my pillow cases. Unless you enjoy sleeping on a bed that feels like you’re sleeping on the floor, I wouldn’t recommend this home. The shower head in the master was covered in black mold, the kitchen table had dried ketchup and other food items and the globe to the upstairs ceiling fan shook and was worrisome for someone to run. I would absolutely look elsewhere if you want a home you can feel comfortable enough in to walk barefoot, sit items on the counter, and get a decent nights sleep. Please learn from our mistake and NOT book this property and lose out on the money and be as disappointed as we were.

4 couples stayed and we absolutely loved it. Great communication with the property manager/owner. They promptly responded and took care of any issues we had. Very helpful. The place is great! Plenty of sleeping room, game room, theater, pool, hot tub and back patio with gas grill. All worked out well for our stay. I would stay here again.

Great experience, quick 10 minute drive to downtown Asheville. We made daily of use of the swimming pool, hot tub and theater room.
Management was very responsive.

The location and basic house was great. The listing was misleading in that it said it had been recently update (clearly not the case), there was cable TV (there was not), and it did not say we had limited use of the garbage disposal, which meant we had to get extra garbage bags (NONE were provided). Dishwasher was broken when we arrived, and it was never fixed. They only provided one dishtowel, so doing dishes was a hassle. One fan broke, but was fixed the next day. HVAC was out of balance -- hot in some spots, cold in others. We were admonished not to lower HVAC below 70, but there were no sun block window treatments in main family room facing west, so the room got hot in the afternoon. Meager towel supplies. Generally, musty odors in basement. Carpets worn and dirty. Pool deck covered with food debris/ants. Lawn areas totally unkept. Fire pit area overrun with weeds. Step to pool had a broken tile making for perilous step down. Several lights on walkway were out making it a bit challenging to enter at night. The good: Lots of space, entertainment equipment and TV viewing room in basement (if you could stand the odor) and expansive pool area (dirty as it was) makes this house full of potential. The owner needs to invest in cleaning up the house. It shows lots of wear -- eg. rusted air vents -- and skimpy maintenance. We would not rent this house again, or rent from this owner.

This is not a brand new luxurious home. It is a perfect home for lots of people, particularly in the summer when you can be outdoors and swim. The home was spotless, the pool and hot tub well maintained. The theater room was a hit with everyone. We enjoyed ourselves !

The house itself was beautiful - and the pool and hot tub were a great amenity. Unfortunately, we had three major issues with this property - 1) the bathroom downstairs was overflowing during our entire stay, and management did not fix it despite telling us they would. This caused the entire basement to smell like sewage and was unusable - which was difficult given 3/7 bedrooms were in the basement. 2) the code the rental company gave us to get into the house did not work, and caused our group to get locked out of the house in the middle of the night, and 3) the rental property’s communication about all of these issues were unfortunately terrible - they have yet to call me to acknowledge these issues (two weeks later) despite emailing and messaging them. Their staff handling our questions were also flippant and condescending when sharing this info with them. These three issues unfortunately tainted what would have been a nice stay.

This is a great location - 20 minutes from downtown Asheville and centrally located to white water rafting, hiking, and a lovely family-owned vineyard.
The house is very nice, but didn’t quite have the room we needed. If, like us, you’re looking to bring a large family group, know that the dining table really only fits about 6-7 (four chairs and a bench), and two of the rooms don’t have closets or dressers, so people in those two rooms will be living out of suitcases. Also, the trundle bed is in a hallway, so anyone sleeping there may be disturbed by people going to the bathroom or the movie room.
If we ever come back with a different group, I would definitely stay here again. Great location, big pool, nice fire pit, and nice indoor space. The owner and management company were very responsive and addressed minor maintenance issues very quickly.

Great vacation stay
Property was great and was exactly as listed. Very nice and quiet neighborhood with lovely views. Our group of 13 adults really enjoyed the home, pool and hot tub. Everything you could want is provided. 15 minute drive to downtown Asheville. Plenty of grocery stores and Dunkin Donuts nearby. Better to go into the city for restaurants. Communication with Ambar was great and very quick to respond. We would definitely stay at this property again.

Everything you could want!
Two grandparents, three children and spouses, and five grandchildren made wonderful memories in the Mountain Shadows House. The pool, the hot tub, the game room, and the theater room provided entertainment for all. The quiet cul-de-sac location was perfect and the distance to Biltmore and Asheville was within 20 minutes. Priceless!

Fun family property!
We had a great stay! Property management was very responsive and pleasant to work with. Kids loved the game room and hot tub! We went in late March and asked for the pool to be heated. It is not a gas heater and weather was only in the 60s, so the pool hovered around 70. The brave kids in our group jumped in anyway :) Kitchen was well stocked with pot, pans, utensils. (Make sure to bring your own salt, oil, etc for cooking). Beds and pillows very comfy and the property is very clean! As others have mentioned, it is about 15 to downtown Asheville, but grocery stores are only a few minutes down the road. Very pretty and quiet location. Would love to visit again!!

The home is actually quite nice and has many rooms to explore. The issues we had were more cosmetic and addressed to the management company with no results. Several of the TVs were not working. Keurig not available even though we were told they had one. Towels were stained and needed to be replaced. It would be a great place in the summer with the pool. Hopefully the owners will upgrade all the towels and buy a combination Keurig coffee pot and pod maker. Location was great and beautiful homes in the area.
