About this house rental
This is a truly exceptional waterfront property in Frankfort! It was built in 2003 and was just purchased by the new owners in December, 2020. The new owners have made a number of great upgrades to the property in terms of furniture, appliances, and amenities!
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS:
We check-in all guests in person, provide them with an overview of the house and answer any questions that they may have, and from there we are available locally to answer any questions or address any issues.
NEIGHBORHOOD:
The location of the home is wonderful in that, in addition to being a great waterfront property, it is only about 1 mile from the start of downtown Frankfort and it is only about 2 miles from the house to Frankfort Public Beach on Lake Michigan. With the bike trail, it is a scenic and pleasant walk or bike ride from the property to downtown Frankfort and the beach. Downtown Frankfort features a wonderful and very family-friendly array of shops, restaurants, and cafes as well as Stormcloud Microbrewery and the beautiful and historic Garden Theater. Both in the summer and, particularly in the winter, Crystal Mountain Resort offers a wonderful variety of family activities including downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, golf, chair lift rides, and an alpine slide. Crystal Mountain is only about 16 miles (a 22-minute drive) from this vacation home!
There is an abundance of natural beauty in the area with much of it residing publicly in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. This large and beautiful national lakeshore features incredible views of Lake Michigan from pristine dunes, miles upon miles of hiking trails, and extremely fun kayaking, tubing, paddle boarding, and/or canoeing excursions on the scenic Platte River. The start of Sleeping Bear Dunes is only about 10 miles north of this vacation home along beautiful M22, which itself provides for a great time driving up through the Leelanau Peninsula and exploring the charming little beach towns along the way.
If bigger city activities are desired, downtown Traverse City is only about a 1-hour drive from the property. Traverse City is the economic, cultural, and entertainment hub for all of northern Michigan and features a vast abundance of charming shops, great restaurants, and wonderful nightlife and entertainment.

If I could rate this higher I would! Fantastic property- the space was amazing and just as described- if not better! Beautiful deck off of the kitchen with scenic views of Betsie Lake- wonderful to enjoy morning coffee and/or an evening glass of wine! Kayaks are provided, along with life jackets, which was awesome- we enjoyed several morning and evening kayaking trips- taking in so much nature - including multiple sightings of an adorable deer family! Communication was terrific - Jean was great to work with! So many amenities- from a fully appointed kitchen to numerous games! We can’t wait to come back- one of our best vacations ever!

This house is great! We had adults using every room and found the beds to be comfy, the towels are terrific and the whole property is very clean.
The house is well stocked with soaps, kitchen items and lots of extras like coffee and snacks.
We loved sitting on the deck at night. There was a full moon and the fish were jumping in the lake. Lots of birds to see in the day too.
We found this to be a very convenient home base for Sleeping Bear Dunes, Frankfort beach, the Arcadia marsh and lots of hiking trails.

A magical property
The sunsets here are just stunning. The views over Betsie Lake morning, noon and night are so incredible. The location isnconvenient to all of the sights, including bike trails. We stayed with two sets of grandparents plus our family of 5. Plenty of room for all.

Our family rented Sunset Bay house for a wonderful week vacation. We had three families with teenagers. The girls took the bunkbed room and the boys shared the basement bedroom. The adults had the other three bedrooms. We were able to bring our dog with us on this vacation, which was great. The house is close to downtown Frankfort, Elberta beach, the Platte River, and the bike trail is right outside the door! Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City are about forty minutes away. We left in the morning to explore different areas and came back to enjoy dinner and the sunset every night on the beautiful porch that overlooks Betsie Lake. The kitchen was very well stocked. The house was very clean and comfortable. Fun outside games were available, there was plenty of outside seating for the fire pit and on the porch. We enjoyed taking our paddle boards out on the lake for sunsets. We used the house canoe for a successful fishing outing early one morning.

Comfy House with Beautiful 30 Minute Walk to Downtown
Great location to town and the bike path is literally next to the house. This home worked well for our family and we would stay here again! We loved the outdoor firepit and the fact that we could bring our two dogs! Thank you for making it pet friendly!
The beds were comfortable and it felt like home plus the kitchen was well stocked. The porch space is very comfortable and we enjoyed time spent looking at the views and relaxing in the sun! The basement bedroom is clean with a bath but the rest of the basement is unfinished.
There’s a couple of restaurants in Elberta that you can walk to from the house.
Great place to stay in Frankfort!!

Incredible stay
The views from this house are just incredible. There was plenty of room for our group which included our family of 5 and some grandparents. The house has everything that you need to be comfortable and feel like you're "at home". The kitchen is incredibly well-stocked, the appliances, dishes, pots and utensils are all very nice. The beds are comfortable, etc. Betsie Lake is beautiful and attracts a lot of birds - we saw so many eagles and herons. The house is right on the Betsie Valley bike trail, so it was easy to bike to the Frankfort beach or to Crystal Lake along this lovely trail. Downtown Frankfort is an easy 8 minute bike ride. Just lovely. The only potential downside is that Betsie Lake is not a "swimming lake" if that 's what you're after, but it is great for kayaking and two lovely beaches (Elberta Beach or Frankfort beach) are only a 5 minute car ride away. Very close to sleeping bear national park, etc. I highly recommend!

Beautiful property with a perfect view of Betsie Bay. Mornings found us sipping coffee while listening to the birds singing and the wildlife move about in the water in front of us. The camp fires we had were good fun. The fireworks in Frankfort were perfectly framed for us while sitting on the deck. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, and cooking utensils. Management was very responsive to questions we had. A great trip and a great house to enjoy the area in.

Great location!
This was the perfect house for our two families of four (plus our two dogs!). We loved being right on the bike trail to the beach and were back and forth to town multiple times every day. The house was well-stocked and clean. We were sorry to leave and hope to be back!

Half of our family got stranded in Scotland because of residual travel restrictions from Covid. The size of Sunset Bay, number of bedrooms, big kitchen with a long family table, and the amazing firepit was going to make for a great family gathering. Instead our smaller group took advantage of everything Sunset Bay was near - Frankfort, Alberta, the Alpaca Farm, the amazing Gwen Frostic studio, Crystal Gardens, Lake Michigan, Crystal Lake, art and antique galleries, golfing, shopping and eating at all the fantastic restaurants around. We still made S'mores at the fire at night after the sunset. Sunset Bay itself was beautiful and welcoming. The property management was responsive and friendly. Highly recommend for laidback and active families. Sunset Bay meets all the needs.

The entire property was just great and had plenty of room for all of our party of seven adults. It is very close to the Family Fare Food Store, Frankfort, Elberta, the Betsie Lake, the Frankfort Municipal Launching Ramp and beautiful Lake Michigan. We were fortunate to have our own large boat -- a 22-foot Cobalt Bow Rider with a 300-hp V-8 -- to explore Betsie Lake and venture out onto Lake Michigan to view the dunes, beaches and Betsie Point Lighthouse on the jetty. The first few days were foggy and cool, but the weather gradually improved, with sunny and warmer days. We enjoyed using the outdoor grill, canoe, kayak, dock, fire pit, and very large property for parking three cars and one boat. Getting into the drive, coming from Frankfort, can be challenging, but we managed to turn around and enter the driveway from the south, right near the causeway. Each night, when the clouds and sun were clear, the sunsets left us spellbound and in awe. We captured about 100 + photos on our cellular phone cameras and each photo of the sunsets were better each time. It was tough deciding when to try to catch fish on the dock or take a fantastic photo. The entire unit was comfortable, clean and Jean; the Senior Property Manager was gracious, responsive and very friendly. She answered my numerous phone calls and responded with a very professional attitude . . . even though she seemed to be very busy taking care of all of the properties. We did a lot of extra maintenance and cleaning of the unit and Jean was very pleased to hear that we helped her by leaving the property in great shape. The state-of-the-art appliances were really great, with an LG-brand refrigerator, washer and dryer and a complete kitchen too. The water was tasty, filtered and very drinkable, so we did not worry about the quality or source at all. Viewing the high-tech, 'smart' TV, with hundreds of movies and channels, was a huge hit with all of us, even though I tried to catch some fish, while others were comfortable and entertained in the spacious family room. For anyone that needs a quiet retreat from their hectic daily lives, this property is just what you need. Maybe that is why I made the reservation at least four months in advance. Thank you for this great VRBO experience and for Eric Haan and Jean's great service. Guest: Dave and his six guests.

This place is not so hard to find, directly off of the main road, just out of Frankfort, MI. We enjoyed some magnificent sunsets by the firepit that this property provides in the yard. All 5 bedrooms facing the river-front was a treat. The host provided a bunch of boardgames which we had fun playing on a lazy afternoon after a good local hike in the morning. The amenities and the cleanliness was good as well. 10/10 recommended!
