Good central location. Easy access to trolley and subway.
Good breakfast buffet and very friendly staff.
Rooms toward the street can be noisy. There is a bar in the hotel that closes late.

Absolutely enjoyed our stay. Wish we could have extended it.

Absolutely nothing in this horrific experience was positive.
1. Room 1. The freezing cold nightmare.
The minute I went into the room I was shocked that it was ice cold inside with an open window and no heating. The central heating on the last floor was barely working, so after 2 hours of trying to sleep... in the cold... I went downstairs and asked for something... maybe an electric small heater... anything to make the room bearable. The man who was responsible told me they don't have a heater like that... and to just go to sleep. Wow. I told him that that I was trying to, but it was very cold. He told me he would give me another room. I said OK, because I just wanted a room with better working central heating.
2. Room 2. The room above the pub aka the room from hell where you feel like people are dancing and screaming inside while you try to sleep.
I was very tired and just moved my things from the 3rd floor to the first. Because I was doing things in a hurry I didn't realize that this room was directly above the restaurant or pub that this hotel is operating. The noise was Horrific. I tried to sleep with ear plugs and earbuds and I even played a white noise on my phone to try to block out the disturbing noises and screaming. I couldn't.
It was 2 past Midnight! And I had been trying to sleep for 4 hours in this hotel.
I went downstairs again and complained about the noise.
I was given yet another room. I was ready to leave and even calling and waking up a friend to come pick me up from this hell. I decided to stay because I wanted to sleep. The staff told me... sorry we are having a birthday today... Like I care about that. When I can't sleep in my room. Absurd.
Also good to note that this room was dirty, had hairs all over the carpet and a strange almost cat like... smell inside. But you couldn't complain about that when the noise inside was 7/10. I could feel the furniture vibrate with the music downstairs.
3. Room 3. Aka this nightmare will never end.

i didn't like anything from this hotel. this picture is a total fake. old, stinky, nasty "hotel" in a horrible arae. i even couldn't close my door due to a broken doorknob. i would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
- i came late due to the German Rail but I let this hotel know about my late arrival before.
- they let my wait outside for 30 minutes in a freezing cold even if I was ringing, knocking etc.
- tho whol area (tram stop) and the entrance are super nasty and dirty. on a tram stop infront of the hotel you literally can see garbage like in african countries
- because this "hotel" works together with a pub everything stinks of cigarettes and bed german food like in the 60th of 20th century.
- the doorknob of my room was broken, so thar it was impossible to close the door
- probably due to the german fuel crisis the "hotel" was super cold
- the towels were probably from the last century
- this "hotel" desperately needs a modern restauration otherwise it will fall down soon
- i left the hotel in a very morning the same day even if I booked 4 nights.
- only due to a good service of the booking.com I could get the refund for the next 3 days.
- they have a very weak internet connection - you definitely can not use it in the 3rd flor where I was staying
- Essen is one of the german cities with a highest criminality and poverty, please do not take hotels in this area, I recommend you the mercure or nh hotel but definitely not this one.

Very friendly, spacious, clean

Nice clean room, hot shower. comfy bed. friendly people.
There was no Wi-Fi as far as I could tell. There is a free unscecured wi-fi for the bar guests, but that didnt work in my room.
I had send a messag to the property on booking about this but unfortunately until now there is no response.
I was unlucky staying on a Friday night and the room right above the bar. Which means the noise is overwhelming the entire night. I guess its to be expected with a a very loud pub right below. impossible to sleep through it

The internet was not working in the room and i was stranded cos i couldnt communicate with my phone it only worked in the bar and it was rowdy and noisy so i lost the main reason for staying there

Exceptionally clean, with incredibly friendly staff. The room was good and so was the bathroom. The pub downstairs is also very beautiful and a big plus. Finally, incredibly value for money.

Room was clean, bed was comfy.
Breakfast was entirely cold, no hot food except tea or coffee. Checked out at 11 but wouldn't allow me to wait 30 minutes to be picked up by my son. It was my first time in Essen and I felt intimidated.
