About this house rental
Hey y’all! The Shamokin Chalet offers panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located just over 3,000 feet elevation, in the Devils Knob area of Wintergreen. The house comfortably sleeps 8.
House features:
Kitchen and dining: new kitchen appliances; fully equipped kitchen; granite countertops; large dining table with chairs for 6 and an additional 5 stools at the breakfast counter; separate bar area
Great room: Stone wood burning fireplace; A-frame architecture with wall of windows; flat screen TV with sound bar; Roku and amazon Alexa speaker; large leather sectional. A sleeper sofa that pulls out into a full size bed.
Internet: 1 Gig direct fiber broadband with reliable WiFi, perfect for working from home or virtual learning.
Bedrooms: 1 king; 1 queen; enclosed loft with 2 daybeds each with pull-out trundles (4 twin beds total)
Bathrooms: 2 full baths; 1 shower/tub combo; 1 free standing shower and tub; recently updated amenities
Laundry room: full size washer and dryer
Mudroom: slate floor; heater; gear storage
Outdoor space: Multi-level deck off kitchen; Adirondack chairs; Gas Fire Pit; Gas BBQ grill; did we mention Blue Ridge mountain views
Things to do:
Wintergreen Resort: ski, golf, tennis, spa
Pools: Access to 2 pools; Chestnut Springs on the mountain (heated); Rodes Farm in the valley
Outdoors: Minutes from the Upper Shamokin Falls Trail, a family friendly hike with amazing waterfalls; just a few miles from Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway; multiple mountain biking trails
Adulting: 151 craft beverage trail that features six wineries, two cideries, a distillery, a meadery, and four breweries/restaurants
Parking: We have ample parking on our 3 tiered driveway. Driveway does get steep at the top tier (we're at the top of a mountain). While we recommend Trucks/SUV's on the top tier, any type of vehicle can easily park on the second tier in front of the house. If you are still uncomfortable with the drive, we recommend parking at the bottom of the driveway and simply take the staircase up to the house.
*We have worked with our housekeeping team to update our high cleaning standards and have implemented an enhanced cleaning and disinfecting program.

Very comfortable well appointed house in an excellent location. The proximity of the AT and hikes we could walk to was greatly appreciated. The deck was wonderful…we utilized the gas fire pit every night. The trees blocked our view of mountains but we enjoyed listening to music and watching the squirrels.

I recently stayed here with my husband and our six kids. The house is beautiful, clean, and very cozy! The driveway is a bit intimidating but we got used to it fairly quickly. Overall it was a nice place and we would definitely stay here again.

Great home minutes from the slopes. House is even more spacious than I anticipated. Driveway is very steep, but manageable, property owners gave us plenty of salt and were very quick to respond with any needs. Would definitely visit again!

We had a wonderful adventure. One important item to bring to your attention: The kitchen side door is bolted shut! I was blindsided by this and would have appreciated knowing what to expect. It made me anxious to think you might think I was responsible!

Great living space in a beautiful setting. Outstanding great room with fireplace and view. Place could use a little face lift, but it worked very well for us!

Steep driveway a bit of problem. We parked at the bottom of the hill. We bought firewood but it would be a nice feature to include. The kitchen is large and well stocked for cooking but needs organized to find things. More tourist information would be helpful. We bought a map and put in the binder. Instructions for the TVs would be helpfu for those unfamiliar with the technology. Comfortable beds and efficient heater. Beautiful surroundings! Luckily no bear sightings but important not to leave ANY food items in cars!

This was such a beautiful stay, the owners answered all my questions quickly and with great detail. It’s evident the owners love the property as it’s well maintained. I am looking forward to staying there again next year.

All the amenities that came with the cabin rental were awesome. The only bad thing i have to say is the location of the beach and the pool were hard to find. I ended up having to call and find out where the were. The cabin was clean, lots of things to do at the cabin, and the rooms were spacious

Loved the house and the size. It fit our group perfectly. The only difficult area for us was the extremely steep driveway, but it was summer so no worries about snow.
We were celebrating a 21st birthday for our daughter and she loved it!!

We got unlucky with weather during our stay. It rained on 5 of the 7 days we were there, which limited our time on the deck and using the included community pool. Fortunately, the weather did not affect our ability to visit many of Nelson County's wineries, cideries and breweries.
The house was a perfect size for our group of 2 couples and a 12 year old. There would have been room for several more kids. The 12 year old appreciated the video game consoles and played Zelda all week.
I've been to rental properties in Wintergreen several times now. This house is the best value I've seen and has everything you would need. The driveway is steep but was manageable. I parked at the top and didn't have any trouble with traction. The other family's pickup truck needed to engage 4 wheel drive a time or two on wet days. I do wonder about winter snow days, but we visited in June. The driveway wouldn't impact my decision to stay here even in winter.

We were two couples looking for a comfortable base for a 4-day exploration in the Shenandoah Valley. This property completely met our needs and expectations. The bedrooms were plenty large enough and beds comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and there was a generous collection of spices and condiments. The entertainment center was first class and the addition of a Netflix account was a plus. We would certainly stay here again if the opportunity arises. Good choice!

We loved our long weekend stay! It is a little trek up the mountain if you are coming in the off season or if you are looking for activities that aren't in Wintergreen, but the views are amazing and the house itself is gorgeous!

Overall this was a great, cozy chalet for my family of seven (grandparents included!). While the driveway is steep, we were well aware of this based on the listing description and pictures. We loved the views and the chalet was well stocked with everything we needed. Would stay here again!

The home was very clean and offered all of the basic necessities. The view was phenomenal. We enjoyed our time very much and would return in a heart beat. The drive was no joke, and took about two days to get comfortable with it. The beds were extremely comfortable. Highly Recommend this Home. Large Kitchen and Living Room.
Trails and Breweries in short easy commute

This was our first time staying in this gorgeous home. So happy we brought our 4wd due to the residual ice and steep drive. The views are gorgeous and this home has everything you need. It was perfect for our family of 5. We took advantage of the weather early in the week and it made for perfect skiing. We went tubing and had a blast. Thank you.

We went with family & friends for a long weekend away. The house was great for a multi-family stay, with lots of space in the living room & kitchen for us to gather. The house is set in the mountains, so as the listing says, be prepared for a steep driveway! Located near lots of great hiking paths and overlooks. If you're looking for a quiet getaway, this is it!

We had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful home for a long weekend over Labor Day. There were 5 adults and 1 child (9 yr old) and there was plenty of room for us all. The house is STUNNING with it's lovely, palatial windows and forest view. I felt like we were in a beautiful tree house on top of a mountain. The beds are extremely comfortable with really nice linens, and there are 2 fireplaces - a gas fire pit on the deck and a wood burning fire inside. The kitchen has been recently remodeled and had everything we needed to nest and cook at the home without going out, including a nice coffee maker and gas burning grill on the deck. And the location is fantastic as well. Even though we weren't there during ski season, there were multiple trails within walking distance from the house or a short drive that we did and very much enjoyed. I highly recommend the Upper Shamokin Falls for those looking for a few rock scrambles, and the Shamokin Nature Trail if you are looking for a shorter, beautiful hike.
We had one minor issue with the property (nothing of the house or home owners fault) that we had to contact the property owner about and he responded immediately, walking us through resolving it, and was fantastic to work with.
Thanks for allowing us to use your home and for such a wonderful experience!
