It’s a great spot for families to have reunions and stay when visiting family members at Colorado College, Air Force Academy, NORAD or Ft. Carson. George (owner) may be on-site during your stay, you are welcome to interact with him or keep your privacy. The choice is aways yours.

THE CHALET'S HISTORY

The Chalet was designed by the owner's mother and it is his childhood family home. “His mother was inspired by a stagecoach stop built in the 1860’s in what is now Keystone Ski Area. His parents would often take him out of school to go skiing at Arapahoe Basin, and stay at The Ski Tip Lodge. Max and Edna Dercum (founders of both Arapahoe Basin and Keystone) bought the old stagecoach stop in the 1930’s and converted it into a ski lodge.”

Several times when he was a little boy his mom would ask him to sit with her in the common room at Ski Tip Lodge. She’d point out the rough hewn logs that supported the open beam ceiling and the giant fireplace chimney reaching two stories into the sky. You will see both of those architectural features in Parkside Chalet now. His mother also drove her Dodge station wagon up to an an abandoned rancher’s cabin south of Colorado Springs and liberated the rough hewn log that now serves as a mantle above the fireplace.

The rocks on the island with the oak tree on it in the middle of the driveway in front of Parkside Chalet got there via his mother’s gumption as well. While driving up to the construction site when building the house, she saw a dump truck hauling a load of rocks from another location. “She flagged the driver down and asked if she could have some of the rocks in his truck dumped at her house.” He said "I don't think so lady. My boss wouldn't like it." She said "Here's 20 bucks. I'll show you where I want em."

The backyard adjoins Palmer Park which is filled with spectacular sandstone rock formations. It’s a hiking and trail running destination for people from all over the Pikes Peak area. It’s also a favored training ground for the US Olympic mountain biking team. The lower level is an owner's suite.

This is very nice home with plenty of room. We had 5 adults, one teen, and 3 preschoolers staying. There was plenty of room for all of us. The place is well stocked and maintain. The owner and manager, Ellen, were very helpful with issues and accommodations. My wife had a package delivered via USPS, which delivered it to a locked box. The owner and Ellen went out of their to retrieve the package. This team rocked.

Our stay at the Chalet was perfect. We did need them to put in the air conditioners (it was hot when we were there), and they took care of that in record time. The home had everything we needed, it is very spacious, and we enjoyed our stay.

Anticipation built as our car wound it's way up the street toward the carefully designed Colorado chalet. An ornate black lamppost greeted us at the wide steps leading up to the home. Robynn with itrip provided clear instructions resulting in easy access. It was a pleasant surprise to find two open living areas with comfortable sofas and chairs. Thanks to fast WIFI, our grandson enjoyed some live video game time in the evenings. We spent time laughing, playing games, reading, and drawing in the sunlight filled 2nd living and/or dining area. One extra special spot was a 2 person table by the window with a beckoning view of higher up rock formations. Mostly we were enjoying the surrounding outdoors. Colorado Spring's Palmer Park trails can be reached by stepping off of the home's large back patio. By hiking the trails behind the home, we were treated to fresh air and views of the city, the surrounding mountains, and nature all at the same time. Before and after hiking, we utilized the spotless kitchen equipped with double ovens, a toaster oven, coffee pot, and all of the cooking/ baking tools needed. There were quite a few spices available too. I appreciated that the kitchen included a new sponge and cleaners. Just the Facts: Immaculate home, comfortable beds/pillows, views from every room, jetted tub, powerful shower, comfortable office, welcoming and thoughtful owner, top notch mgmt company. Special thanks to George & Family for your help with the snow! You're the best
