Lovely stay but.. could be better

The Deluxe Two Bedroom Spa Treehouse was nicely decked out, with two large bedrooms and bathrooms. The outdoor spa was a lovely addition. The location is in the heart of Franz Josef, walking distance to all the restaurants, shops, tour offices, etc.

Rainforest Deluxe is a part of a bigger complex with backpackers and motel accommodation and this grates a little bit with the "luxury" of Rainforest Deluxe. The check-in experience is very "backpacker" and that just doesn't match up with the price tag. Alongside that, the cleaning also matches the "backpacker" experience. The sofas were grubby, there were hairs (pet?) everywhere and everything felt a little sticky. It's a shame because the accommodation itself is beautiful but the standards just aren't quite there.

Seclusion in Franz Josef

seclusion. design. bathroom. bed. details. parking. location. kitchenette. deck.

could have been a little bigger, too bad it wasn't built that way. would have been nice to have a table and chairs indoors as well, for night and bad weather use. very hit and miss staffing of the office. Assuming staff shortages.

Disappointing stay, certainly not "luxury"

Room itself was very spacious and clean. Great views from the balcony. Own private parking. Great location

Breakfast was an issue as should have been provided as a hamper in the room, but was served in the main restaurant (which had cleanliness issues) with the hostel guests due to staff shortages. We raised this with reception and were told it was the same breakfast options but different location, however this misses the point of paying to enjoy a breakfast in private in your own luxury lodge.

Lovely forest setting

Lovely individual bungalow surrounded by tropical plants.

A photo on the description showed a spa on the deck of a unit that apparently doesn't exist...or at least wasn't offered. The suggestion that there was a spa for only the "Deluxe" units was inaccurate. The only spa was some distance from the Deluxe units and was shared by the entire complex.

The deluxe accommodation was excellent.

The included breakfast was terrible. It is advertised as continental and is far from it. No plates, bowls, spoons, glasses - had to ask for everything. The bread was a white roll cut up. Had bacon as the only hot option. Absolutely terrible.

A unique accommodation in a beautiful setting.

Our tree house accommodation was beautifully situated in a rainforest setting with a view of the mountains.

The attached restaurant was understaffed and it took a long time to be waited on and served.

Great place to stay.

We stayed in the Luxury Tree Hut and it was absolutely beautiful. Great views of the mountains and rainforest. Very clean and comfortable, fantastic bathroom. Staff members were wonderful, with one exception in the restaurant.

Staff member in the restaurant, Mel, I think had an attitude problem.

Rainforest Retreat

Gorgeous place...tranquil and private. Stayed in Treehouse Deluxe. Loved the extra touch of breakfast basket it was so appreciated. Rooms were well stocked and extremely clean.

And I feel that was very for money Jude fact that it was secluded self-contained bedroom unit great view pleasant staff

Stayed one night in a luxury unit exceptional value for money just love the seclude in this of the unit surrounded by bushland and management on site with grateful also what was impressive is the access to the pool and sauna area which of course I like my saunas

The standalone unit away from everybody the pool solar easy access to the kitchen area it was just the right spot for us

Lovely accommodation ruined by a lacking breakfast

Lovely view from the room and comfy bed. Loved the under floor heating in the bathroom.

They had lost of tea and coffee facilities but have no milk. Then for breakfast they gave heaps of corn flakes but only a tiny amount of milk. the bread they gave us was so undercooked and doughy so it meant we basically had no breakfast. Such a nice place but ruined by these things.

Exceptional

After a long trip we arrived at 7pm tired and hungry. We found a fully licenced bar and restaurant on the premises. That made our day. Woke up to a great views and the room was catered for a perfect breakfast. One of the best places we have stayed at in NZ.
