The main floor offers a kitchen with everything you could want from home including new stainless steel appliances (dishwasher, fridge, and gas stove top, and electric oven), several small appliances, a large table to host your guests plus a separate countertop for two. Common spices, oils, and vinegars are provided. The main floor bathroom offers a steam shower to host several people, which is connected to a half bath.
The 1st floor provides 4 bedrooms each with a queen bed, as well as bathroom with shower/tub and double sinks. The house is surprisingly quiet for the number of people it can host.
All beds are supplied with 600 thread count sheets, flannel duvet covers, down duvet inserts, down pillows, and lighter coverings for the spring and summer. Luxurious towel sets and hot tub towels are provided for each guest. Each bedroom has blinds, plus blackout curtains for a restful sleep, as well as a ceiling fan, smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector (batteries replaced annually). Update: In the fall of 2020, the East Troublesome Fire tore through Grand County and burned almost 200,000 acres by the time heroic firefighters brought it to full containment. Although it was directly in the path of the fire, North Star Lodge and property were spared with minimal damage suffered and with its trees still standing. Many of the surrounding properties in the area were badly damaged, but in this strong mountain community, the rebuilding process began swiftly and robustly. While the fire did alter the landscape, it has not diminished its rugged beauty and is still the magical setting that it has always been.
Understandably there are many questions as to what you might expect when visiting North Star Lodge. The Troublesome Fire came over Arapaho Forest, into Sun Valley Lake / Kawuneeche Valley and into Rocky Mountain National Park leaving significant changes to the area, including the loss of many cabins and surrounding trees. Since the fire, almost all properties/cabins have been cleaned up, but there are still many burnt trees that remain standing. Just like a tornado, the forest fire was indiscriminate, and there remain areas and properties that were largely unaffected with North Star and a smattering of properties being spared. The property on north side of North Star, across from North Star to the north, and the property opposite North Star across the lake are completely intact, but most cabins to the south of North Star are gone including our immediate neighbors on the south side. What remains now is an impressively open vista of Sun Valley Lake, Mount Baldy, the Never Summer Mountain range, and the Rocky Mountains.
What was incredible to witness this past summer 2021 was the return of grass, trees, healthy vegetation, and so many moose! We celebrate with our neighbors who have begun the rebuilding process.
North Star has been rented back to back since March 2021 with guests thoroughly enjoying their stays despite the impact on the land.
I am completely transparent! Before I accept your booking, I will make sure you are comfortable knowing the land experienced damage from the fire. I want you to have a wonderful vacation and enjoy using North Star as the perfect launching off point for your adventures!
There is no question that North Star Lodge is still a very special home in a very special part of Colorado, and we look forward to welcoming you for adventures!

Stayed at North Star Lodge August 17-24. We had a big party of nine family members and we enjoyed every minute. The cabin was a perfect fit, we had fires every night, used the hot tub and everyone had room to stretch out. The close proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park made it an absolute dream for our three days of early entry.

We loved the lake and location—close enough to town but also far enough away in RMNP. Heather was a wonderful host!

North Star lodge was a wonderful home base for our family trip exploring the Grand Lake area! The location offers very easy access to both downtown Grand Lake and RMNP. The abundance of amenities included with this home kept our entire group happy...paddle boards and kayaks for the lake, basic fishing gear, a hot tub and steam shower, lovely deck w/ seating and grill, wood burning fireplace, air hockey/fooseball. This is truly a special home! Wonderful communication and support from the host as well.

This home was cozy and beautifully decorated. It worked well for a large family trip. Located right next to RMNP, we had several opportunities to see moose and elk. We would definitely come back!

Our family has rented homes in the Grand Lake area several times. I must say that this experience was exceptional. Heather is more than accommodating; she cares for the customer. Before we left, she sent a very descriptive email. We never had a question that she had not already addressed. Everything was laid out perfectly.
(Although it seems like a small issue, we loved the post that shoes were not allowed inside. I cringe at disgusting people who walk from a public restroom into the home where kids play.)
Despite the heavy snow upon our arrival, the house offered plenty of things to keep us all busy the entire time. Games, sleds, wood fireplace, beautiful view, and the house offered plenty of space for our 12 people.
In the future, I am going to make sure that Heather is in charge if we're going to book there. She has set a new standard.

Fantastic cabin for family gatherings. Loved it!

Our family weekend with 12 of us (all adults) was so much fun, in part thanks to the North Star Lodge. The house was perfect for everyone's sleeping requirements, and the log cabin vibes and decor fit right in with what everyone wanted for this trip. The house was about 5 minutes to the RMNP entrance; it's worth a drive into the east side of the park though, as you get different scenery where trees weren't burnt, but all views were worth it. The walk around the lake at the house was very pretty. The hot tub wasn't warm enough for use the first day/night and took until the morning for it to warm up enough, so that was disappointing; but Heather called in the hot tub guy to fix the issue and clean the filters the next morning, so we were able to use it for the rest of the trip. About half of our group was from out of state, and with the dry air, we were all getting bloody noses and wishing the house had humidifiers in each bedroom; might be an amenity worth adding. Most everyone in our group loved the steam shower! The outdoor fireplace was a nice place to gather; some in our group wished the fire pit had a better clearing around it to use it (we didn't). A bit more variety in games conducive to groups of adults (like cards against humanity, etc.) would be nice to add to the game stack; we were also hunting for a chess board, so that might be a good addition too. Nice, well-stocked kitchen, and loved the fishing poles and paddle boat too! Overall, great stay; beautiful house :)

We arrived to find a beautiful, clean, amazing place for our three day get away. The owners were quick to answer all our questions to ensure our stay was perfect and relaxing. The views and the private lake were stunning. We will definitely be trying to return to this home in the future. ❤️❤️❤️

We had a wonderful stay. I can’t say enough good things about this place. It was very peaceful and relaxing and Heather, the host was great. She was very helpful and pleasant. It definitely lived up to the pictures, a beautiful place. We will definitely be back, there is so much to do in Grand Lake and the surrounding area.

Nice private lodge with beautiful views. Host was communicative and check-in/check-out were easy. Had a great time with an adult group. With games in basement and water activities available, I could see it being even better for families. Absolutely gorgeous!

Not only was the property beautiful but it was spotless. I went with 10 of my closets friends and family. I proposed to my wife by the dock and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Heather is extremely accommodating and responsive. I will DEFINITELY be returning to this amazing house!!

Myself and 10 friends had a great time at this cabin. Private (neighbors weren’t around) Great space inside, and we loved the water activities, we were the only ones on the lake. Loved the paddle boat and being able to fish off the dock. Location is close to town and large driveway for multiple cars. Would definitely come back!

We had the most wonderful stay at the North Star Lodge. The view of the mountains and the lake was absolutely gorgeous! We enjoyed many fires both inside and outside on the deck and we spotted a mother moose and her calf right on the property a few different times! My grandkids loved playing in the treehouse and taking the paddle boat out on the lake. The cabin was also very comfortable, clean and had everything we needed to make it great week in Grand Lake!

We had to accommodate extended family (including some older folks) coming in from all over the country as well as our own teens - and Northstar Lodge was the perfect spot. There was room for everyone. And I don’t just mean beds, but enough places to sit together and eat (and more than enough beautiful dishes/utensils), enough places to relax and enjoy the vacation, and enough bathroom space and bathroom supplies. Heather has thought of everything and went out of her way to check that we had what we needed both before and during our time there. She even helped us find an amazing private chef to bring in as a surprise for my mother-in-law’s 80th birthday dinner. I couldn’t be happier or more impressed! *Not to mention we loved the private lake and getting to see moose right from the deck!

North Star Lodge on Sun Valley Lake was the perfect spot to host family for our 50th anniversary celebration. The log cabin house was very comfortable and well stocked with everything we needed. The setting is absolutely beautiful even though still recovering for the East Troublesome fire of 2020 - the wildflowers were lush and the wildlife sightings did not disappoint! The family had so much fun on the lake with the watercraft that was provided. Location is excellent for heading into the town of Grand Lake, Rocky National Park, trail riding on horseback or OHV. And it was very comfortable for walkers/runners on the little traffic country road. With gratitude to Heather for being the best host! Prior to arrival we received pages of information about the house and area including safety info. Heather was extremely responsive during our stay, checking in to make sure all was going well. It was hard to leave North Star Lodge, but we will cherish the memories made there!

Northstar Lodge is a fantastic home. It is very comfortable, clean and has all the amenities to make your stay comfortable. The location is also amazing. I have always loved Grand Lake and Sun Valley Lake is one of my all time favorite mountain getaways. The provided boats, fishing, wildlife viewing and proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park can't be beat. We were treated to ospreys fishing, multiple moose sightings, and a bald eagle all from the comfort of the deck. My kids easily spent the full day fiahing, paddling around on the lake and playing in the water. Can't wait to go back!

We had a wonderful time at North Star Lodge. We had a group of 12, and there was plenty of space for everyone to hang out. All of the furniture was comfortable, and we enjoyed the views of the lake and mountains. We appreciated access to the kayaks and paddleboards, fishing equipment, and the games downstairs. Heather was very responsive. We would definitely recommend the lodge for a family gathering.
The road to the lodge is literally across the highway from the RMNP Visitor Center. It's a great place to access the park and Grand Lake. (Many moose sightings on drives in and out of the area.)

My family of 8 and I stayed at Heather’s property for 3 days and it was an incredible experience! The place is perfect for a quiet mountain getaway, and Heather is a very responsive and friendly host! Would absolutely recommend a stay at North Star.

Heather is the very responsive, kind and generous host of this beautiful lake-front house. Three generations of my family stayed a week to enjoy cooking, fishing, hiking and relaxing. The hot tub and the steam room were a perfect ending to a day of hiking through nearby trails and fishing on the lake. We also had much fun playing air hockey and foosball games, college kids vs middle aged. Kayaks and paddle boards were well used on the quiet Sun Valley Lake where no motorized boats are allowed. The house is exactly as described. Plenty of towels, firewood, a sufficiently equipped kitchen and supplies and good laundry facility helped our family vacation turn out to be perfect. We would definitely return next year.

The property was absolutely beautiful. Stunning, really. We were the only people on the lake for our entire week stay. The kitchen is well appointed, with every appliance, cookware and even spices you could need. Heather was accessible and a joy to work with for little questions.

Our stay at North Star Lodge was memorable. The Lodge had plenty of room for 6 adults and 3 children. Heather Mann was very responsive from booking to checkout. Upon booking we were provided with all the amenities of the lodge and activities in the area. We wanted to reserve a couple fly fishing trips, and Heather provided us with some recommended Guide Services. We chose Kirk Fly Fishing Guides in Grand Lake, who were excellent. Our family loves Sun Valley Lake. It is different from times past since the fire, but the moose and elk were much more plentiful especially in the early morning and evening hours. We had hours of fun in the kayaks and paddle boat on Sun Valley Lake. The ducks and ducklings as well as geese with their goslings were a treat for my grandkids. We were fascinated by the pelicans, osprey and eagles fishing around the lake. They seemed to have better luck than we did catching the trout. We appreciated Heather providing us with sufficient bottled water when the water filtration system failed as well as providing fair compensation. The 2020 fires changed the landscape, but the Grand Lake area is magical with its many outdoor activities. Being at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park provides many outdoor options for a family.

Relaxing atmosphere, beautiful mornings sunrises as well as sunsets. Plenty of wildlife to watch-don’t worry they’re more scared of you. Heather even left us s’more fixings. Truly enjoyed our family time.

The host Heather is caring and a great communicator. The property is breathtaking, lovely touches with toiletries, towels etc. The town of Grand Lake is only 10 minute drive.
Lots of animal sightings; river otters, eagle, mama moose and baby, hummingbirds
You may get lucky and see the moose swimming across the lake. You won't be disappointed.

Best Ever Family vacation at North Star Lodge
We loved everything about our vaca at North Star Lodge! First of all the lodge is in a beautiful location just outside the west entrance to RMNP making animal sighting excursions and hikes in the park so convenient. The lodge sits on a lake and has beautiful views of the mountains from the back side with gorgeous sunset skies. The animal/moose/bald eagle sightings around the house were incredible with a mama moose and her two babies visiting under the back porch multiple times during the week- incredible! The Lodge is decorated and stocked with every detail in mind to provide all the feels for a mountain get-away yet providing the convenience of amenities even for the chefs in the family. Heather, the host, was available via text to answer any question we may have had (even helping when we had car trouble and needed to find a new battery!) and was pro-active in communicating prior to the trip with details allowing us to fully take advantage of all North Star had to offer. We love the town of Grand Lake and breakfast and dinner at Sage Brush, lunch at Cy’s, and our last night dinner at the historic Rapids was all terrific. Boating on Shadow Mtn Lake/Grand Lake for at least a half day is a must - we rented from Trail Ridge Marina. My daughter and I rode at the Winding River stables right next to North Star, and my son fished off our pier for the catch and release trout. We enjoyed evenings in the hot tub on the deck and sitting by the fireplace on the deck enjoying S’mores and at time a glass of wine. All the beds were comfortable; wi-fi is available but struggles if all 7 of us were trying to use it/stream at the same time.
I can’t wait for all the re-building from the 2020 fall fires to be completed in the area as you can’t help but feel for the families that lost so much, but am so happy North Star was spared. We will definitely be back for our next CO vacation!

Family Vacation -- 10 people
This was one of our favorite rentals in Colorado. We loved being on the lake and so close to the Rocky Mountain National Forest. The house was very spacious and plenty of room for our family. We enjoyed the lake, the upper deck, the outdoor fireplace, steam bath, and hot tub a lot. The kitchen is well stocked with every appliance you may need. The beds were comfortable and the house clean.
We enjoyed watching moose from the upper deck of the house. There is a resident mother moose with her 2 calves who came by the house a lot. We enjoyed the hummingbirds also. We rented a pontoon boat and went boating on Lake Granby as well as horseback riding. My husband and I saw the musical production "Jersey Boys" at the theater in Grand Lake. If you have a chance go to the theater.
Heather is super to rent from.. She answers all questions promptly and makes check-in easy. She really takes care of her guests!

North Star Lodge is a great getaway with beautiful views!!
We had a wonderful time in Colorado with 12 people! There was plenty of room in the spacious North Star Lodge!
The views on all sides of the Lodge are gorgeous! You see mountains everywhere you look!
The Lodge is a short and convenient 5-minute drive to the town of Grand Lake. And you are right by the west entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park.
Heather, the property manager, is super helpful and very responsive to any communication. We appreciated all of her help!
We highly recommend this property and would definitely return again!

Perfect House / Excellent Host
We do this trip to different properties in the US and overseas every year. Heather was the most responsive, helpful, and pleasant hope in 15+ years.
The house comes with a much more outfitted kitchen than most houses and the pictures don't even show how nice it is.
We saw moose every day we were at the house from the front porch of the back porch. It is literally 5 minutes to the visitor center and the park entrance and we also went horseriding at the farm down the street.

Amazing home on quaint private lake!
This home was perfect for our family of 11 and had everything we needed and more. Fished everyday on private lake (caught tons of trout), enjoyed kayaking, hot tub and indoor and outdoor fires at night. While the fires destroyed so much of the surrounding trees it didn’t take away from the views. Saw moose and elk walking the neighborhood almost everyday and the house is so close to the cute town of Grand Lake as well as easy access to RMNP. Highly recommend and we hope to be back! Thank you Heather for being such a gracious and responsive host!

Wonderful place to stay for family of 10
We absolutely enjoyed ourselves! The property was perfect for our family trip with our adult children with their spouses. We even caught fish off the dock! It was catch and release. We enjoyed the hot tub. Heather was great and made sure everything went well! Checked on us when we arrived and when we left. She was very responsive to our questions.

SR. Trip/ Family Vacation
My daughter picked Colorado for her Sr. Trip, she loves skiing. So, my husband said his requirements for this trip was, he wanted a cabin, and a view. This house delivered. We took all 3 of our adult kids, my daughters boyfriend, our 2 year old grandson, and my mom and stepdad. Everyone had their own bedroom, and the beds were so comfortable. There was plenty of living space, and the kids loved the game room. My mom used the upstairs study to work a little. We cooked and grilled every night, and everything we needed was stocked up and available in the kitchen. The extra things that the host provided made the stay even more enjoyable, and she was quick to respond to a question if we had one. I will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Colorado.

Perfect Snowmobile Getaway
This home could not have been better for our long weekend, family snowmobiling getaway. The home is just beautiful, with everything we could have needed. We enjoyed the hot tub, steam shower, grill, game room, bedrooms on multiple floors and the ability to ride right from the driveway and be on the trail in a couple of minutes. The mountain views are spectacular and I’m sure it’s amazing to have the lake access during the summer.
Communication with Heather was fantastic from answering my questions prior to even reserving, sending activity ideas weeks in advance, communicating every step of the way during checkin/checkout and even checking in to see what we needed during the trip. Outstanding host and a friendly process makes all the difference. As a side note, even the way they phrase the checkout list made us feel at home. Little things that make a difference like “I’d appreciate if you clean the grill after use” is so much nicer than “CLEAN GRILL AFTER EVERY USE!!” What a pleasure. We’d welcome the chance to come back!! Thank you!!

The house was beautiful, warm, spacious and well stocked with all our needs.
Heather was an awesome host. She was very helpful, informative, and responsive via phone/text. The house was so spacious and comfortable with an awesome hot tub. We were a group of 9 and didn’t lack space within the house. Each room was stocked with everything needed. The beds were so comfortable and there was a study which allowed me to work a few hours per day without interruptions. The floors were also heated. Host and house rates a 10!
