This place is in a wonderful location. Wooded and right on water. The walk to th shore is made of wood steps. The shore is just peaceful and so natural. With all those little creature in the water and under the seaweeds. The sunrise and sunset over the water is mesmerizing. The deck is so memorable to sit with family and chat.
Downtown Bar Harbor is fun to walk around. Lots of quick bites and all tasty. The waterfront grassy area is like in a painting. Sailing boats passing by, people and kids, family and friends…There is a lobster roll place right nearby where you can order takeout lobster rolls and borrow their tarps to sit on the grass. That was a real treat.
We used the public transportation to get where we wanted to go. We walked from the property to a camp ground nearby to ride the bus. The walk is about 10 to 15 minutes. The bus is always on time and the drivers are very pleasant.
The owner, Peter, even brought in a cake for us to enjoy. We never met but he and I communited well through messaging. No issues.
Washing machine and dryer are in good working order. Kitchen supplies are plenty.
Again, I want to mention that deck. Its image stuck in my mind. And a bald eagle will come by every day to perch right in front of us. Gorgeous. She must have a nest nearby.
We were with our kids and grandkids there for a week. And that week is full of warm memories. Thanks for making this possible.

Our family trip to Acadia was a huge success! How can you go wrong, though, with a beautiful national park and such a wonderful house to come back to each afternoon/evening! The location of the house was fantastic for all of our exploring. Views from the deck for sunrise and to watch the seals, dolphins, and eagles, were simply divine! Peter was great in his communication with us and ensuring that our trip was excellent! Couldn't have asked for more!

Everything about our stay was fantastic! The location was the perfect place for any weather from sun to rain, with plenty of space indoors/outdoors/and even a screened in covered porch. We enjoyed relaxing in the comfy deck chairs to the sounds of waves lapping below and gulls calling. It was so utterly peaceful that even if you didn’t leave the house to venture into Acadia or Bar Harbor (both extremely close) you could still call it a vacation well spent!
The beds were comfy, the kitchen was the best appointed kitchen I’ve had in a rental hands down, and there were games handy to play if you wanted to.
The Host was super responsive and provided really well-written instructions for everything, we had no issues with anything at all!
If you’re looking for a family friendly space to get the essential Maine experience with, Overlook is the spot!

The view is great, close to all hiking trails and restaurants.
Peter is kind and committed to meeting the needs.

Property owner was very attentive. Instructions provided were comprehensive and the house was well appointed. Loved the popover pan and espresso machine. Enjoyed harvesting fresh mussels. Beautiful view from deck of Frenchman Bay. Great access to Acadia and hiking. Great access to Bar Harbor. We were 4 couples age range 25 yrs to 60 yrs. Plenty of room for everyone.

We loved our time at Overlook! The house is just as it is pictured - beautiful view of the bay from the great room and deck. Peter was very easy to work with and provided us with LOTS of valuable tips for our vacation. Highly recommend!

What a beautiful house! Peter was a great host. Since the weather was terrible, it was great to have a comfortable place to connect as a family. Our dogs enjoyed the porch and the deck as much as we did!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Overlook. The house is large and located back in the woods on a beautiful part of Frenchman's Bay. There is a large deck with a gorgeous view of the water; a great place to relax with a cup of tea, book or even cell phone. The house is very clean and spacious with a nice loft on the second floor and another balcony off the MBR. The 2 BRs on the 2nd FL share a bath with a swinging saloon door going into the bathroom. The common areas are very nice with a comfy LR and large table for dining. The screened in porch is also a nice place to eat if it's not raining. Our grandkids enjoyed the deck, yards and we did S'mores by the fire pit. There are 2 other smaller homes on the property but you have privacy if you want or you can hang with your neighbors by the firepit.
The location is ideal. An entrance to Acadia is nearby and the ride into Bar Harbor is only about 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic. There are a few restaurants in the immediate area and many more in Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor.
Peter, the owner, was very communicative before we got there and promptly answered all the questions we had about the property and area. He has tons of info about Acadia trails and restaurants in the Bar Harbor area.
There are steps on the adjoining property which go down to the water; the steps are a little steep and there are rocks at the bottom so it's not a beach per se. We would suggest new chairs for the deck; some are very worn.

A spectacular property with a spectacular view in a breathtaking part of the country! The scenery is amazing and teeming with wildlife. Peter is an attentive host and goes above and beyond to make sure his guests have everything they need. Kitchen was really well stocked. We really enjoyed our stay and would book again. The property is great for large groups but it needs to be the right large group. The listing says it sleeps 10-12, but it really only has 3 bedrooms and for some groups, the bathrooms may not be sufficient to comfortably handle the max number. The master bath configuration is a little different and is shared with the the other upstairs bedroom. There is also another full bath on the main floor for the living area and one in the basement that doubles as a laundry room and services a downstairs bedroom with a double bed and bunks. Our party was three couples and three kids and it was perfect. The other thing to note is there is no air conditioning. It was quite comfortable with the windows open though it was fairly warm that week, but if you have seasonal allergies and shouldn't sleep with an open window it could be a challenge.

Beautiful location. Overlook was a very comfy place to stay. Members of our rather large family stayed in two other rentals on the same property. Others stayed in rentals 15 minutes away. Very nice ability to interact with family via beachcombing, kayaking, campfires, and outdoor play for the littles.

We all loved this house. We stayed the first week of April. The sunrise is beautiful and you can see it from the main bedroom. It was chilly, but we enjoyed the deck with the heaters. Everything about this property was perfect!

Great place. Beautiful location. Sipping coffee and watching the sun come up over Frenchman’s Bay is a phenomenal way to start the day. Peter is a super nice and communicative host. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat. Even in the winter!

If you’re looking for a place with a beautiful water view and big table for playing games, comfy beds, big kitchen and close enough to the park and shopping then this is the place. Kids found starfish on the shore and enjoyed the hiking! Propane heaters on the deck were nice on a chilly afternoon.

The lobster was terrific from the recommended fisherman. All the restaurants in town and along the route were fantastic. The house was great as were the views.
Highly recommended!!!

I can confirm all of the prior reviews on every point and would not hesitate to stay here again. We were 4 adults so there was a lot of room for us. It is clear in the house description but be aware that the master bathroom is shared with the other bedroom on the second floor. This was no problem at all for us, but I can imagine that it might be for some people. Beware the potholes in the driveway - drive slowly! Also, there are appropriate reminders near the faucets that the hot water can get VERY hot. The only mild disappointment I had during our great week was an apparent safety feature on the temperature of the water into the master bathroom bathtub - the only place that failed to generate the hot water in which I would have loved to soak after our strenuous hikes.

Our stay there was wonderful. The house felt spacious, was clean and well stocked. The deck was delightful. After our mornings enjoying all the things to do in the Bar Harbor area, we would relax in the afternoons on the deck. There were five adults, two 3 year olds an a 1 year old. We felt comfortable with them on the deck and around the whole area. A special treat was seeing a Bald Eagle on the tree right by the deck. Another eagle joined it and they stayed there for twenty minutes or so. We also enjoyed watching the seals play in the water in front of us every day and watching the lobster boats check their traps. The beds are comfortable, the house has lots of windows, the kitchen is well stocked and the location is great. Peter answered our questions and was a great host. We VRBO all over the country and this was one of the best rentals.

Family Reunion
Attended a large family reunion on Mount Desert Island. The house location turned out to be perfect. We enjoyed our down time on the beautiful deck overlooking the water. It’s interesting that there is no tv in the living room area, but this turned out to be a plus. Much more social interaction. We had an amazing time!!!!!

Magnificent Home
My family enjoyed their stay at this beautiful property! There is so much to do in the immediate area and the home itself was stunning. The owner was incredibly responsive as well and we felt well taken care of if we were to need anything. The views can not be beat! Thank you!

A Fantastic House, View and Host
If you have the opportunity to stay at this house, do it without hesitation. Peter is a wonderful host. He is very kind and makes sure everything is okay....and it is. The house has everything you need to be comfortable. He has a put together a book with great information about the house and Bar Harbor. The instructions for gathering and cooking mussels is perfect as well as his suggestion to make popovers. The windows and deck facing the bay are so nice. You really want to watch the sunrise from the master bedroom, living room or the deck. I highly recommend this house. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Peter for helping us have a great experience in Bar Harbor and sharing this house.

The enchanted home of happiness
Peter is prompt and helpful. Our arrival in a forest wrapped in the snow was delightful. The house is peaceful and beautiful, with visiting deers, turkeys, and birds at the door. We had everything needed in the kitchen, and the house was clean, organized with books and games. We are grateful to Peter for sharing his enchanted happiness. My family had a delightful time. Thank you for the blessing moments.

A Maine Paradise
Peter’s property was exactly as described and more. I’m not sure you could accurately portray the beauty or serenity of his property in written words as it truly has its own magic. Peter was incredibly responsive and accommodating before and during our stay and I simply found him a delight to chat with. My family has already requested I see about booking a stay here again next year and I can’t give them one reason why I wouldn’t! Can’t wait to be back!

Gorgeous house and view
The house at Overlook is just beautiful and the view is spectacular. We traveled with our 3 kids who are young adults and my elderly mother, who took the main level bedroom and bath. While we hiked with the kids in the mornings, my mom was completely comfortable in the house, enjoying the beautiful view. The kitchen is fantastic and had everything we needed, the beds are comfortable, and everything was just perfect for our stay. The location is very convenient to Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor. And the owner, Peter, and caretaker, Shaun, were both extremely pleasant to deal with. Couldn't have asked for a better place to take my family.

Beautiful, spacious stay on the water
The cabin had a lovely vibe to it on each of its three floors. We loved stretching out in the massive square footage. The sunrises on the deck were also epic. We even saw some seals while enjoying our deck coffees. It was the perfect place to celebrate a 40th birthday in style. Peter was a fantastic host who was very responsive and informative. We would love to rent from him again in the future.

Magical Get-away
Peter was a fabulous and attentive host who went above and beyond to make our stay special! The property is quiet, the view spectacular, and the home so comfortable. From star-gazing to watching the sun rise from our bedroom window to watching the lobster boats retrieve their catch, we enjoyed nature and peace at all times.
