Little History
The Happy Hen is the entire upstairs of the Historic home that is over 100 years old. There was a complete renovation in the spring of 2016 modernized what could be while still keeping the original charm. The floors are the original and with that come creeks here and there, we think of it as a reminder of the age.
The bathroom is the original for the entire home but now only serves the Hen. While it is not grand in size it gets the job done and the little decor adds to its charm. Off of the one bathroom door there is an outside sitting area where they used to hang their clothing from however now one can sit and enjoy a beverage.
Historic homes back then had minimal ways to sound proof between floors and ceilings due largely to the design. You will find that noise DOES travel but most of our guests are respectful and understanding to the nature of the house. To aid with this we do offer earplugs for very light sleepers and a sound machine.
The Historic home sits one block back from a main intersection for orchard trucks and traffic going either to HWY 81 or HWY 15, which also makes it extremely convenient to get around. The Farmhouse itself sits close to the road as due most Historic homes and there will be road noise. There are a few entrances that are low and if you are tall will need to duck.
All guests will need to sign a rental agreement.
Guest will need to do some departure procedures on check out, i.e. strip beds, clean dishes, and take trash out
Other things to note
This Farmhouse is over 100 years old and sits on .75 of land. As with all historic homes it sits very close to the road as the roads (road noise) were built after the home. The farmhouse can be rented as one unit (The Freckled Farmhouse) or as two rentals. The Happy Hen has its own private entrance and is the entire upstairs. The Rested Rooster has its own private entrance and is the entire downstairs.
The Historic home has sound proofing as much as possible for a historic home. Guests should expect to hear noise like hotel rooms as it does travel. We ask guests to be respectful of the other unit.
Guest access
The Hen has access to the farmhouses yard, fire pit, and grill.
High Speed unlimited Data Wifi!!!
All guests must fill out and sign a rental agreement. Our homes are insured with vacation rental insurance which mandates this must be filled out and returned
Infants two years and younger that are in addition to the maximum guest count must be announced prior to booking.

The bathroom is the historic homes original and has a shower stall which is small. If your looking for a large shower or bathroom this is not the rental for you.
There is road noise! This home sits close to a busy intersection and if you’re looking for total silence while you sleep this is not the rental for you!
We’ve had some guests be completely fine with it and some guests that said it was not bad we’re guessing it’s based on the time of year. We do provide sound machines and earplugs for lighter sleepers.

AAA+ property owners, friendly and helpful. The Happy Hen Loft was such an adorable, rustic apartment. I would not have been happier any where else. Centrally located to some very historic sites and the area is so beautifully surround by nature. Truly marvelous place to stay. Thank you for such an enjoyable trip! I will be back again!

Perfect meeting place for four girls to meet up and reconnect! Lots of space , comfortable beds and living room furniture. Only issue was ton of stink bugs trying to stay out of the cold inside with us! Nothing an exterminator couldn’t fix! Would stay again! Loved the friendly goats in the yard!

Wonderful decor and space inside the property. Would have been nice to have a pot and pan provided. Ideally a walking trail around the yard would be great for future. Goats outside were adorable and lots of amenities were provided such as tv, internet, other kitchen items and everything was good quality. Can definitely hear the neighbors well. A bit high of a cleaning fee for still needing to do a fair amount of cleanup before leaving. Otherwise wonderful place and would stay again if I had a group and a pet.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Happy Hen. Close to everything we wanted to do, but still very much out in the country, quiet, cozy, and had a great time at the fire pit under the stars.

Beautiful apartment. Everything was clean and the rooms were bigger than i expected being 4 bedrooms and an older house. We got a late start to our trip, as promised when i let her know, the main lights were on for us. We also adored the welcoming committee. As a misplaced country girl, I loved being greeted by the goats when we came and went. The only negative things there was a lot of semi traffic and the shower was quite cramped, but overall very nice place!!

Great place for exploring the area. We attended a show at Totem Pole and the battlefields of Gettysburg so this place was ideal. Needs a new smart TV as the Chanel choice is extremely limited and the tv was old so unable to stream from iPad. There were six of us so although enough bedding the bathroom facility was extremely cramped and kitchen likewise. Great for the two nights we stayed but with six of us I would not have wanted to stay longer.

My sister, friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay at the Happy Hen! It was clean, had all the amenities we needed (plus more!), and we had fun admiring the home’s historic accents. Danielle was very responsive to any messages/questions. There were many both indoor and outdoor activities in close proximity to the house, and we hope to come back in the near future. Highly recommend!

Very comfortable and homey. House has plenty of space. Loved the yard and the fire pit! Wish the weather was a bit warmer so we could have enjoyed it. The intersection with 30 was a bit busy. Children and pets need to be watched very carefully.

Fantastic location to Gettysburg
The Happy Hen was very clean and had a great location to Gettysburg. The place was so cute with a lot of historic details. My sister, who was on the trip with me, is recommending this place to her daughter. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Gettysburg in the fall

Great little find
Arriving at the Hen House was easy. The owners gave clear instructions on parking, how to access the rental, and everything we needed to do upon checkout.
The rental was very clean and looks just like the pictures. Unfortunately we didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoor space due to the rainy weather making the yard a little swampy but it looked lovely for those times when it’s perhaps a little nicer.
The only suggestion I would provide is that perhaps you label the closets in the kitchen as we typically would never open them but we were in search of pots and pans.
Thank you for allowing us to stay in your cute and charming home.

Quick Stop in Gettysburg
A great place for home base when exploring the area. A little tough if you’re tall (over 6’) many head hazards. But cute and dog friendly. Only true complaint was the road noise. If you’re from the country, you won’t get used to it.

Perfect for a short family getaway
This was a great home that was perfect for our weekday family ski trip. Convenient location within short drive of several activities. Would definitely recommend checking it out if you want a quick getaway from the city.

Perfect situation!
We rented this adorable farm house for our family the weekend of our daughter ‘s wedding at Hauser Hill. It is 2 minutes from the venue, perfectly clean and stocked with all necessities. So spacious and plenty of parking. For the first night we had neighbors downstairs and would have loved to share the fire outside but simply had no time. Danielle went out of her way to communicate and make sure our stay went smoothly on this incredible weekend for our family!
