About this house rental
Henry's Castle is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath "beach box" type cottage centrally located on Duck Rd. in the community of Southern Shores. Close to everything in Duck and Kitty Hawk, but with a "tucked away" feel on a large wooded lot. Newly decorated and furnished, with a Boho style retro feel, tile floors, wrap-around deck with screened in porch and picnic table, and a crows nest.
The house is an approximately 1/3 mile walk to the nearest beach access. Beach accesses in the community of Southern Shores are only for residents and guests and most do not provide parking of any kind, so our walkable accesses and the beaches are remarkably uncrowded even in the peak of summer.
If you would like to drive to an access, we provide a parking pass for the Southern Shores Civic Association beach access at Hillcrest Drive. The site has 2 showers, toilets, a gazebo, benches, and a viewing platform. The beach and viewing platform are wheelchair accessible. A volleyball court has been constructed at this site, as well. We are members of the Tennis Club, so a pass for the courts on Hillcrest Drive is also provided.
The cottage has an open concept living room and (fully stocked) kitchen/dining area area, with tile floors throughout the house, and a wraparound deck with a gas grill, screened porch with a picnic table for outdoor dining.
The master bedroom features a queen size bed and en-suite bathroom.
The second bedroom features a queen size bed.
The third bedroom features a single over double bunkbed set.
All bedrooms have memory foam mattresses, high quality cotton sheets, and Roku streaming TVs.
On the ground level the workshop/storage room has been converted into a game room (not attached from the inside) to a "Game Room" with a full-size refrigerator, smart TV, foosball, ping pong, and darts. Under the house, we provide a hammock, cornhole, and ladder ball games for outside. For cooler nights there is a fire pit oustide in the "backyard" area.
*Please note - our "yard" is intentionally left with the Outer Banks' natural, slightly rugged, indigenous landscape. It is not manicured or necessarily suited for children or dogs to use or play in. (We don't mind if you enjoy the space, but it is "as is".) Also, the game room is a converted storage area not connected to central air and heat, but we have a portable a/c unit in the room that you can use in warmer months for climate control.
The cottage is located just 2 miles from the Village of Duck with its wide selection of walkable restaurants and shopping options and 4 miles from the Harris Teeter and Food Lion grocery stores and Wal-Mart shopping center.
We also provide a beach cart and some limited beach gear for your use.
We supply the first roll of toilet paper and paper towels, but guests are responsible for needs after that.
Propane for the gas grill is on a "pay it forward" system - if you use the last of the tank, please exchange it at a local grocery store, Walmart, 7-11, or Ace Hardware. Also, please clean the grill for the next guest before you checkout.
Beach gear - if you use it, please rinse it and put it back as you found it before you check-out. If you break something, please replace it with something equivalent.
Loss of Tennis Club or Parking Passes will result in a $100 fee for replacement.
PLEASE NOTE - IF BRINGING A DOG.
*Dogs must be disclosed, included in the reservation, and approved by us. The maximum is 2 dogs.
*Pet owners must clean up after their pets. This includes waste in the "yard" and sweeping up excess hair in the house. If you know your pet sits on furniture, please bring extra sheets or blankets to mitigate hair on the furniture. We rovide a lint roller.
*Dogs must be well-socialized, FRIENDLY TO HUMANS in case we need to access the house for a maintenance issue, up to date on flea meds and shots, and not left unattended or uncrated in the house for extended periods.

We had a great stay at this house. The house was very nice and clean, and our host was extremely responsive. The house is conveniently located right near local shopping in Duck, just 20 minutes from the bustle of kitty hawk, but in a quiet area with easy access and walking distance to the beach.

Exactly as advertised. Loved our stay. Owners so easy to work with.

Good Property, Communication, and Location. 8 min walk to the beach, but you do have to cross a busy street. Quieter less touristy part of the OBX. Property had everything we needed in the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms!

Henry's Castle was perfect for our family's first vacation to the Outer Banks. Comfortable, clean, and convenient, it was just right for us. Thanks for the hospitality!

We had a great 4 nights at the house. It was well appointed, roomy, and clean. We appreciated the wagon for carrying items to the beach given we had 2 little ones and all the stuff required for a family day at the beach. We had an issue with the WiFi on night one which was easily fixed using the help desk service provided by the owner.
One note is that the location is right on Duck Road (side without a sidewalk). You need to cross the road where there isn’t a crosswalk or walk through the grass to get to the neighborhood near the house. While not an issue for a solo adult, getting to the cross walk wasn’t easy and didn’t feel safe with small kids and all the beach gear. If your kids are a bit older, it might not be an issue.

We had a wonderful time at Henry’s Castle! The house was extremely well stocked with every kitchen appliance you could possibly need and so many beach chairs and umbrellas! We enjoyed the multiple gated porches and spent the majority of our time either sitting on one of the porches while our dog sunbathed or hanging out at the beach which was a quick 7-10 minute walk away. Our teens enjoyed the game room downstairs and watching movies on the flat screens in their room and the living room. The only thing to remember is your body wash and shampoo! Henry’s castle provides literally everything else and more! We will definitely be staying again!

Great little home base for our stay in the OBX.
100% would stay here again!

The beds were comfy, the towels fluffy, and the water pressure was great. The kitchen was impressively stocked with almost everything you could need for at home cooking of meals (no crockpot, so bring yours if you need it).
I had a 2 yr old who managed the stairs just fine and spent his indoor time playing with mega blocks on the living room table or in the bunk bed room. The bath tub was great for kid baths and the kitchen is naturally difficult for kids to open doors or drawers - so mostly kid proofed.
The location to Duck eateries was great and the walk to the beach was so easy - plus we saw deer every single morning and most nights on our walks. Harris Teeter and Walmart are very close by for groceries.
The tap water is terrible tasting (actually terrible), so bring bottled water or jugs of water to make your own ice and to drink.
If you are a light sleeper, bring a noise machine for night since it is right off the coastal hwy it can be loud. Coming from Baltimore City, it was pretty tame for us and we slept alright.

We experienced a lovely stay at Henry's Castle. With an easy walk to the beach for "Small Loads" and a quick drive for the days when we packed a lot of goodies, this was a perfect location. The parking pass for multiple locations was very helpful and the beaches nearby were great.
When arriving we had an easy check-in with a door code. There was a nice welcome manual to help us know a little about the house and the local area. I love all the outdoor seating area and the covered picnic table. The kitchen had all the supplies, plates, and appliances needed. Overall the space was very comfortable and welcoming with towels on each bed for our arrival. The extra touches of a few movies and games was nice to have. If you come here I recommend checking out the marina park, I forget the name, but it was a quick drive or good walk away and a nice park on the Sound Side. The neighborhood was beautiful and quiet while also offering a great walking area.
The location was perfect to get to Duck with a quick drive or about a 2 mile walk if you have the time and want some extra exercise.
The host and hostess were quite nice and responsive to our questions ahead of the trip and provided good details upon arrival to help us get settled. We had an unexpected emergency with our dog and they helped us with a later check-out which was so amazingly helpful since I was unable to get back to house from the vet until midnight or so the night before our departure. We'd stay again! Thanks!!

This property was perfect for our family vacation! There are 5 of us, but it will comfortably accommodate 7. The house was better than pictured. Everything was very clean & we walked to the beach every day. Also loved how close we were to Duck, as this area is not nearly as congested as some of the other areas of Outer Banks. The outdoor shower is perfect to spray off after the beach & the screened in patio area is great for dinner. We loved everything about this house & would definitely recommend it to anyone traveling to this area!

Two adults and four kids (ages 10-14) thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The easy walk to the beach was perfect for evenings. When we had all our beach gear, we really appreciated the included parking passes that made a day at the beach so easy. Great location, great extras for the kids, great star gazing from the roof. Would stay again!
