Cabins were clean and comfortable.
We arrived at about 7:30 pm during the week and you have to get key from bartender and when we arrived the bartender was closing up. We did not get any communication about late check in. Had we been another half hour later, I don't know what we would have done. I was surprised the bar closed so early. I did not realize Bolinas was so remote with no amenities after 7:30 pm. We had to go back to Stinson Beach to get a very expensive (and not very good) order of fish and chips. If you want to be off the beaten path, this definately fits the bill.

The hotel was great, we had the suite over the bar. It meant a great view, a great terrace, easy access to another drink (the bar selection was good, if a bit limited). The clientel was great, behaving well, yet having a good time! That is what a good bar should be. We took a walk around the neighborhood, and loved every part of it. Beautiful old and new houses and full of surfers. The water access was amazing. We could easily have used an extra day, which we might in the not too distant future; we might want to rent a boat if that is possible? We went across the street for breakfast; it was OK: What we got was good quality, the breakfast selection was a bit limited, but the coffee was excellent.
The food selection in the hotel was limited; my wife got fish, and it was overcooked. I got a pepper with cheese in it, which was great. We did not explore other dining options in Bolinas.

Management was able to secure a parking spot for us. My wife had a broken leg, and the parking lot is hard to negotiate on crutches. Thanks!

The location can't be beat, and the town people are great. Don't miss Kaleidoscope and Bolinas Gallery while visiting.
We are early risers, unless you are fishing or surfing there is not much going on before 11am. But there's coffe and baked goods available so we were still happy.

the foldaway bed was extremely uncomfortable for my daughter. coffee available to make but no tea.

A few more pillows on the bed.

Close to the beach, restaurants, stores.
Water temperature in the shower- it was freezing for 5-10 min., could not wash my child without the tears after the beach. They are trying to conserve the water, but we had to let it run to warm up, which eventually did happen.

Noisy, and staff could have been better.

There were not much that made this a very pleasent stay. The room was OK and the food was OK.
The room had thin walls and it was quite loud.
The restaurant was also a bar, with a presence of drunk and weed-smoking locals.
The pictures of the rooms were confusing as there were quite a quality difference.

unique, festive old building…we stayed in the captain’s quarters—loved the balcony for breakfast in the sun. well renovated. their good menu produces great food!
there was an issue with the hot water heater that no one could “fix” until an e-mail to Simon (owner) was delivered. The problem was relatively quickly resolved. In the morning we welcomed the warm shower. (otherwise, we were pleased overall.)

Just being in Bolinas is always a joy. I usually rent a house, but was thrilled to know that Smiley's Hotel was open again. My room was perfect, No. 3, clean and comfortable. My dog Cleo liked it also. Location is great because you can walk everywhere. Had a great dinner the night they had music. Other items from kitchen were wonderful. I will definitely be back.

We didn't stay long enough!

The captain's quarters is a beautiful space. We enjoyed the balcony and the great location. Having a TV was a nice way to unwind after the kids went to bed.
The noise from the bar below is much too loud for people with young children. The hide-a-bed mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable.

The room was very clean, well decorated, and well stocked with snacks, linens, and toiletries. The bed was very comfortable.
The parking was on a super steep dirt hill, and it was already full when we arrived so we had to park on the street.
The check in is at the bar and the staff was less than welcoming. The male patrons at the bar were extremely intoxicated at 4 pm and it was uncomfortable to have to check in to a room right next to them.
The hotel held a reggae concert the night we stayed. The music wasn’t overly loud and the hotel provided earplugs. But, it resulted in people getting pretty rowdy and intoxicated. People were banging on our door at 1 am, and we could head shouting and fighting.
In summary, we will not return to this hotel.

The location is awesome: right in the middle of Bolinas! I've always wanted to stay at Smileys. Also, the staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Well, Bolinas is largely shut down during the week, reopening on weekends. The pandemic still takes its toll.

Everything about my stay was perfect - the staff, location, amenities, cleanliness, ambiance. The ground were very well kept. Check in was super easy and hassle-free. Room was very clean and the little things spoke volumes (actual half & half creamers, quality shampoo/soap, ear plugs, even tapatio condiment packets!). The details showed. Very pleasant and comfortable stay.
Nothing. Y’all nailed it in my eyes!

Super fun place! Great to stay by a saloon for the first time in our 16 years in California! We had lunch at the saloon and dinner across the street. Walked to the beach and enjoyed the view of the lagoon and the ocean just about 500 feet from the hotel. The room was clean and the bed was super comfortable. We definitely want to come back!
