Cala Luna was a beautiful property; the food was delicious. We also loved the beach access and the complimentary cocktails at sunset. We had a wonderful, relaxing time and highly recommend this hotel!

All in all a quality hotel. It was our last stay in CR before returning home and also the most expensive night. This is a great hotel, really nothing to complain. After exploring inland we missed the warmth and simplicity of the country, Cala Luna caters for a luxury (US) crowd resulting in overly complex restaurant and breakfast options; All nice but personally not needed. But this is our mistake :-) Compliments to this hotel for offering a great travel experience.

Lovely location and setting. Great staff. Beach set up.
Food not great and breakfast a bit cold.

Cala Luna was outstanding in every sense. The service was spot on and incredible responsive. The spa services were extraordinary-among the best, if not the best we’ve ever experienced. The “farm to table” food and artisan cocktails never disappointed.
There wasn’t anything disappointing to be honest. One thing to be aware of for the area in general, the beaches are rocky in certain areas and this is not a low cost vacation spot. Expect to pay close to what you would pay in the US for similar food & drink & activities.
8.0
hotel room, fauna & flora, Tamarindo beach, ocean
breakfast choice was often limited, small spoons not set at the table, no warm cereal choice (millet = Avena), no chocolate croissants (like in Italy), no jam no honey;
Last dinner was awful, pasta was lukewarm and slushy, Gnocchi were really chewy, good point to mention though our drinks were offered after we mentioned the issue.

Location was great! I wanted to experience staying surrounded by nature & it was perfect! Inclusive Costa Rican breakfast was great
Bed was a little too firm but there’s nothing I disliked about the stay

Lush, tropical vegetation gives this property a unique privacy between accommodations. We stayed in a villa with its own private pool. Amazing vacation!
Honestly, I loved everything about the place! Very clean, wonderful breakfast buffet, well maintained

The staff were SO kind and helpful! They truly went above and beyond...answering questions, arranging excursions and extra special things like bringing cold water and cucumber slices for our eyes by the pool! They even helped my friends surprise me by hanging a 'Happy 40th Birthday' banner up when we returned to the hotel one evening. They were so thoughtful when cleaning our rooms, leaving things so tidy and fresh and creating fun creatures with the towels. The breakfast was AMAZING every day....fresh fruits, whole foods, arranged beautifully. Every single staff person did an outstanding job, which accentuated the natural beauty all around. Being at Cala Luna feels like you are set down in the midst of the jungle, with dense flora all around and a beach just down the path. Amazing place. Highly recommend!

Fresh food served daily and friendly staff
No full length mirror in the room, sheets were not changed (we stayed 5 days), there were loads of ants in the bathroom, dustmites were eating at the wood in the bathroom everyday - you could hear them especially at night and there would be grinded pieces of wood around the area every morning which made my skin crawl. Overpriced for what it is.

The food was amazing especially the complimentary breakfast. The hotel room was better than the pictures and house keeping came every day. I would recommend this property to anyone. The sunset at the beach was also an amazing piece. I’ve included a photo.

Very cool double shower in the room. The free breakfast buffet was really good. The pool was nice and staff friendly. The walkways to the rooms were very cool, lots of foliage and wildlife.
If you like extra firm beds, then you'll be okay with them; for us they were very uncomfortable. The ceiling in the room had black mold...and a lot of it. We called immediately and were told they didn't have any other rooms. We were told they would send someone to look at it and nobody ever came. We followed up the next morning and they said they didn't see any mold. I had a photo showing all the mold and showed it to the gentleman at the front desk. He just said oh, well we didn't see that when we were just in there. We paid way too much money for a moldy room. When we checked out, we asked for a discount since we paid top dollar and were declined. We were stuck as it was late, we didn't know the area, and we had pre-paid for the room. Uploaded photo so you can see just how much mold there was, not sure how they could say they couldn't see it!

The beach was rocky and not swimable. But it was very pretty. Short drive/walk to surf beaches though. Breakfast was amazingggg. And the pool was clean and is open 24/7 rain or shine. This hotel was not adults only, which we didn’t mind watching sweet mannerable kids enjoying the pool. We loved the landscape and monkeys. We also all did the sound bath Sunday morning and our husbands loved it even when they thought the wouldn’t. 10/10 recommend Cala Luna. The staff was amazing as well.
That the beaches weren’t swimable from the hotel access. Ant problem in the room.

Ultra responsive. Quiet and tucked away but still close enough to the action.
The only issue we had was getting to use the bikes. Golf carts needed rental but bikes were for all guests. We were having to get our covid test before flying back to the US, and most places closed between 2-3p. Too, most aren’t at the hotels or advertised all over like Mexico so we had to hunt a testing space down. Found one at 215p, got our tests by 230p , needed our passports to have everything sent to us so we walked back to the hotel (~17m). Requested use of the bikes to make it back to the clinic before 3p and they wouldn’t allow us to use the bikes (~4m ride), the golf carts were reserved, so we HAD to pay $10 for a shuttle.
Bike were there chained up when we requested the use and were still chained up when we made it back 25m later.

Staff, location, facilities (esp. pool), breakfast,.. all were great. A few more yoga classes would have been appreciated though. As we were traveling with our daughter a few pool toys would have been a great asset. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend it.
The ants! But I guess that is what you get in nature, and the setting is great in the middle of a garden of wonderful plants which also attracts howler monkeys.

My reservation was under "French". The place was not clean. Especially the restrooms in the lobby were filthy. we decided to leave after the first night, we just did not trust the cleanliness of the kitchen and rooms, if the lobby was so dirty.
