Right next to the beach. The children are kind.

Simpel en basic; matige afwerking van zaken.

Lokatie vlak bij strand. Vriendelijke eigenaar. Rustig deel van Frontstreet met uitzicht op zee vanaf de eerste etage.

Ontbreken van warm water. Geen 2 stoelen om op te zitten, terwijl je er wel kon koken; ook net op terras

Great, budget friendly place to stay in SXM

I very much enjoyed my stay at Calinago Friendly Family. Andre and his family made me feel very welcomed, especially as a solo traveler. I think it's great value for the price if you're looking to stay in Philipsburg. Cabs do cost a lot in SXM, but I found easy to catch the buses from this location once you got the hang of it. Great location, right on the beach.

For the price, this a great place to stay. No complaints. I think as a solo traveler, I was a bit hesitant at first, safety-wise but it was actually very safe.

Kind hosts and super convenient apartment

This small apartment was a great find for a week stay with a friend. Literally only one street back from the boardwalk and beach in Philipsburg, I was surprised how peaceful the space was at night (even on New Year’s Eve!). Tucked away from the street and with a small gate to enter the courtyard to access the rooms, it also felt secure and private. The refrigerator and kitchenette were a big bonus since food was one of the biggest expenses during our stay. The bathroom is a bit oddly appointed in the room we stayed in, but everything was clean and tidy with ample space to store clothes and luggage to feel “at home”. WiFi was reliable and fast and it was always easy to find parking nearby. Finally, the owner Drae and his family were super kind, friendly and accommodating.

Perfectly located at the beach front. Drae the owner was very friendly and helpful. He can also recommend and organize all sorts of excursions or car rentals etc for you.

Sharing of bathroom. Host was not there to greet on arrival and had to wait an hour for him. Host was not aware of departure date and entered room when i was still in room.

This is a hidden gem and is perfectly situated right in the heart of town. You really couldn't ask for a better location. My case hadn't been sent on my connecting flight but there were already good quality toiletries already provided in the apartment. It was a good sized room with air con and a good sized TV with Netflix also. The owner was very approachable and always around if needed. Just to be aware as I wasn't but there is no hot water, however, I easily managed showering as the temperature was luke warm so really didn't bother me and shouldn't put people off. I will definitely stay here again.

It could have been much better.

The location is perfect- just in the center and in front of the beach. It has a nice terrace, where you can watch the sunset. The room is big enough and has everything you need: AC, fridge, stove, microwave, washing maschine etc. The owner Andrae is nice and helps you in everything you ask for. Also it's probably the cheapest place to stay in SXM.

Well the building is very damaged so it's dangerous in my eyes of an architect to stay inside. When it rains (and it happened every night) it is very loud because of the unisolated roof and it was raining into the room (there are some holes in the roof). The windows didn't close completely either. There was no warm water (!!!) and no soap (which i didn't really expect), only a male shower gel in the shower as if somebody has forgotten to take it or clean after the last guest. There was a coakroach in my room one morning (which is not a big deal in the carribean climate) and another dead one behind a glass in the sleeping room, which stuck there some time ago. There was no curtain in the bathroom (there is a big wall in front of the window, but there is an angle that everybody can see you taking a shower, especially at night). The other curtains were transparent and there are many lamps on the street. The fridge was there to use, but it was so loud and old that I turned it off. There is no reception at the night time and the gate stays always open, so as solo traveller you might not feel very safe, even if the owner is easy reachable per whatsapp. As I was not paying too much attention to Andrae's new business of renting cars and selling expensive trips, he didn't really spend much time to explain me the places to visit or didn't recommend any place to eat or anything to do (some other people in random shops had more time for me). So to resume, it was fine to spend some nights in the place, but it was not a nice stay.
